A BRIEF INTERMISSION TO THE FLAME WARSPersonally, when I'm met with having to resort to other people's reviews in order to formulate an opinion for things (as I try to avoid as often as possible), I take the negative reviews to heart first because they are usually the most honest. People can pay for *good reviews of something but no one pays for bad ones. However, this precludes such a statement as "Everyone's entitled to their opinion" when in fact, this is not the case. Everyone is entitled to their *uninformed opinion. Uninformed opinions are like assholes, blah blah blah. Not everyone has an informed one. Or to follow the metaphor, some people's assholes are prettier than others and worth looking at longer...
Whenever someone tells me, "I liked it!" and I ask why and they can only give a response akin to "Just cuz". I find that to be equally uniformed AND uninformative as "It sucks!". If you cannot validate your own opinion on a subject than I have a hard time quantifying how you came to that conclusion. For all I know you may only like or dislike something because your dog told you to. And by that same token, it doesn't require a degree in music or film to be able to feel validated in your opinion on such matters nor can those things strike down your opinion because you don't have them... as long as they are informed opinions. If all you've ever listened to one kind of music, you could never sway anyone as to why another is good or bad. If all you watch are cartoons, your opinion about how boring 2001:A Space Odyssey is will only fall on the same deaf ears you must have when you try to voice your opinion on this particular album and restrict your commentary to: "It sucks".
There's no shame in simply saying, "It's not for me". But when you take the time to project your unsolicited opinion so as to affect someone else's, you have a responsibility to explain yourself. If you can't take the time to do that then don't take the time to say anything at all. From the looks of it, Warlock (who I don't know nuthin' bout nuthin') took the time to succinctly explain her views as did a few others with counter points to hers (who I equally know nuthin' bout nuthin') while others fell into their own traps by expressing further opinions without validation as to why the former's were..."bullshit". No one is telling anyone that if you don't have anything nice to say then blah blah blah because THAT is bullshit but (on a personal note) when I see this kind of back and forth I feel like it's no better than the shit throwing we all have to sift through on any other Youtube page when we express our enjoyment of ICP.
So all I'm really saying with all these words and punctuation marks is, don't bring that shit of attacking someone for LIKING something to a site meant to foster our ENJOYMENT of a thing that in any other place is met with constant derision and name calling. Or for those that DO only watch cartoons, I quote Swamp Thing, "Do not bring your evil here...".
And if you think MY opinion "sucks", at least use more than two syllables to tell me why. I've already gone through my Dr. Suess books before bedtime and could use a good read.
WE NOW RETURN YOU TO YOUR GRUNTING FLAMES
This was interesting, and I understand that most of what I say is what you would call "uninformative." But, this is besides the point. The reason I comment on this post is to say to anyone who found 2001: A Space Odyssey boring, watch it on acid or another hallucinogenic drug of your choosing. The boring will instantly become fascinating. As for atching it without the use of recreational hallucinogens, I cannot comment, as I have never done so. Maybe it is boring. Maybe it is.........

Yall comparing bonez/mono to otis/madrox made me wonder, can anyone pinpoint the exact song where madrox starts tryna chop it? Best I can come up with is 'My Enemies' from W.I.C.K.E.D.
edit* actually im now thinking 'feel this' off of Mans Myth

@patjoyce - my little soapbox moment wasn't meant to be a swipe at *you, homie. You actually took the time and now *I know a litle bit more about where Warlock's opinion might be coming from (or at least that there are other people that might have issue with it). Like I'm any kinda fuckin' authority anyway :P Rush Limbaugh may have a well thought out point every once in a while too but if I had no idea that other people thought he was full of shit, I wouldn't have any cause to take it with a rock of salt.
And yes, 2001: A Space Odyssey IS awesome but some people can't sit through the butt numbing that might occur because of the long sequences of silence without dialog or music. There are intermissions fer fuck's sake! But really it's all there to try to create a sense of distance so that by the time they get to Saturn, you get the feeling of how really far away from home they are. Then there's those people who just think the movie's about a robot that won't answer the doorbell...
Oh and yes, it's the shit on hallucinogens too.
