The only thing.... the only thing for me on Mighty Death Pop that stood out in a bad way.... was the fact that they were making too many pop culture references. Kinda like South Park a little. Where the first seasons all had a theme, but recently, every episode is just poking fun at the most recent breaking news.
Like, ICP used to kill bigots, corrupt politicians/government, and child molestors. In Death Pop they were killing... Chris Brown and Dog the Bounty Hunter... I could swear that was part of the influence of the album, and why it's "death POP," but I dunno if I filled that in myself, or that was an official statement.
Even with that one small gripe, I still hold Death Pop up high on my favorite albums list, just because I feel like ICP really grew as a group, musically. The album did not follow any formula or pattern that they've used before. They stepped out of their comfort zone. It was pretty similar to the difference between CoC and RM, actually.
I know what you mean by the references to dog and Chris Brown but their reasons for making the song about them fit into the dark carnival realm. Ones a redneck biggot and the other is a woman beater. While the rest of the world looks the other way and continues to be entertained by them, the carnival won't look the other way.

Actually, you are correct about influenced by pop stars. If you go and read an interivew with J about how mdp will "sound" when released before they dropped it he said it was anger towards POP acts or some shit like that. I remember reading that. They said they had alot to say and anger expressing the pop culture. You know what's weird? When I listened to BPB and MDP for the first time and then the other day, I can kinda hear COC and RM on that new deck just an upgraded style with different flow. If that's the case and we're going by that, this next card will be fucking dope. Cause COC/RM beats were completely different from GB, RB, and AJB. I remember coc/RM having these type of beats on it. (Both being my last favorite albums too)
I still got love for COC and RM tho. I get bored with them albums, musically. Bpb and MDP i can bump straight through I dig em, I just hope for gods sake the style is changed up. I wanna throw TML cds in and be like DAMN OLD MEC is back. Don't you guys feel like that? Maybe it's just me who knows. If I throw in "LOST" and it's eery and dark i'm gonna go nuts. I still would really really like to hear MEC do an evil album (Which I would make LOST) and Mike P do (FOUND)... that'd be so dope IMO.

Honestly, at this point... I dunno how I feel about MEC.
speaking for myself, im still a huge fan. if he isnt doing the work for the new shit, ill be much less excited about it.
legs diamond, too.
Like... ICP was never his cash cow. He can go get his millions doing Kid Rock albums.
that would be so very depressing.
But it seems like there's always some disagreement with his compensation/work expectancy. That shit's toxic to an album production.
probably toxic, yeah. if thats what it is.
the business shit, i leave to the business, and just hope for the best.
I don't want him coming in and half assing it. I either want MEC at his best, or someone else.
i dont want any of them half-assing anything.
awfully paranoid, arent you?

I like the concept of the cards, and the lyrics don't even bother me, it's the production. When I say back to their roots, I don't mean 100% wicked shit. I'm fine with what they do now, I just don't want this over produced stuff anymore. The tempst was a prime example of what they should sound like. The tempest's sounds is a complete 360 from MDP and BPB. Play my song, what about now, mexico city, growing again, haunted bumps, all dope.Really? The Tempest? I've been listening to em for 20 years and that's easily my least favorite full length album they've done (and it has nothing to do with it not being a joker's card). And personally the only ones that stand out as clearly better than BPB and MDP are Riddlebox and Milenko. I'd say Ringmaster, AJB and Shangrila are about even with the new cards.
I used to hate the tempest now I sorta like it. Songs like play my song, the tower, bitch I lied are good. and some other ok tracks. MDP was weird, some ok songs, a lot of meh songs, and putting dog catchers on there rubbed me the wrong way that was a track that should have been on a dj clay release not a jokers card. Also the skreem remix that ended up on the dj clay cd was way better then the mdp version, as was the remix version of when im clowning. As for BPB I really liked how old scool and throw back it sounded. As far as the first deck Riddlebox and Milenko had that sound, the production, the pitch of icps voices everything came together on those releases. After that with AJB and from then on, they lost that sound.

I agree with everyones comments. AJB is one of my faves actually. Loved the guitars. Thought that was some of MEC's best guitar work.
As far as bpb/mdp I wouldn't say they sound "Clowny" at all. It's the voices that are percieved as clowny I guess. They just have that voice. I think alot of MDP was sampled tho. BPB had mostly original beats other than I think love? Whatever song had that porno sample in it. That's why I didn't enjoy MDP too much too many samples. Chris benoit was a horrible song for that cd. I loved that beat but the chorus is horrible. Had they done a different chorus it would of been fire. To me it sounded like they started off with Night of the chainsaw, bazooka joey, shooting stars, hate her to death, ghetto rainbows, then everything else was just thrown in there at last second cause they were clueless on what to do. That's what BPB kinda does to me too. But BPB started off PERFECTLY fine then just went down... speaking of BPB I think i'ma throw it on. In the mood to hear it.

What sounds clowny to me is the huge "spectacle" production. Like, intros with organs, oompa-oompa beats, and circus music.
And dude, I loved Chris Benoit... you crazy!
benoit sounded like a song scrapped from Tales From the lotus pod. Speaking of which is that ever getting a re-release? im not paying 50 bucks for it.

I can't believe you consider juggalo juice as a throw in, that's personally one of my all-time favorites. Yeah, it's corny and not wicked in anyway but it's like a faygo anthem. Lol
But I do agree about Chris Benoit, could have done without that song. I'm not saying MDP was necessarily one of their greatest cds but the good songs that are on it (MDP, night of the chainsaw, bazooka joey, juggalo juice, when I'm clownin) are right up there with some of the best songs icp's ever put out. I guess you could say there's a bigger gap between the good songs and the filler on that cd compared to a lot of their others.

You thought "When I'm Clownin'" was one of the best songs they've ever put out? I have to very much disagree. that track sounds like a 5 year old wrote it, the beat too.

Ok, not that one so much as the others I listed there, though I do like it. The laughing in the background reminds me slightly of the end of toy box, which is one of my all-time favorites of theirs.

I really enjoyed the verses on chris benoit but not the chorus. the beat/verses are dope as fuck. The chorus goes with chris benoit but it was just meh to me.
When i'm clowning is dope lol I wish it was longer. Reminds me of ICP for sure. There were definitely some really good songs on MDP but there was def some shitty ones too. I guess listening to the extra cd's they really did put teh best material they had. Lost in the music with swollen members was dope tho. I didn't like party in the woods. I'm not saying that BPB and MDP are awful in anyway, it's just nto something i can bump on a regular basis. Once in a blue moon i'll bump em. I forgot about Juggalo Juice, song is dope as fuck. I liked that song.
Now are people getting the boxset tomorrow? or is it being SHIPPED tomorrow? I'd be pissed if it's getting shipped tmrw.
