The Rhythmic chants, yells, and cries for a party/overall good time is heard in this debut album of true irie feeling. The DogBoy is honestly not something I would normally listen to, but our friends over at the Suburban Noize Compound have hooked me up so I gave it a listen. There was some of it that I liked and some of which I hadn’t.

I completely dig the whole concept on how he is an international “sound system”, breaking all borders with his unique, undeniable sound. What I also really like is how distinguishable his voice is from most others heard on the music scene today. I like how he throws his ideas right at your eardrum with a smile on his face, expecting for you to react either with disgust or empathy.

Yet what I never really liked about the DogBoy from when I first heard him on Royal Highness is that some of his work isn’t as edgy as I would like it to be. It could either be from me not being able to understand his voice and what he’s saying some of the time, I just don’t know. Don’t get me wrong he is as talented as he is unique; he has a vibe about him that is nothing like heard on the mainstream or underground today.

The sound to this CD, though it is straight out of the underground, has more of a pop feel to it then most I’ve heard recently. I like it though. It reminds me of when I was younger listening to music in my dad’s truck, pure and jocked full of good times/tunes.

The DogBoy takes you on a melodic stroll from when you pop the disc in the player to when you change the batteries to ones that actually work. Definitely the Return of this Drop has inspired the forth coming Rebel Riddim. Throughout the whole CD, he is mysteriously speaking of some woman in his life. This woman is either one who he truly loves; a being, the planet, mary-jane, or all three of them. Either way She’s Driving through Dear Jamaica where the DogBoy later told her Fearlessly with a Smile that “She Can’t buy my Soul.”

After stopping through the homeland to the sound of the Too Rude, DogBoy you find yourself asking “Where to now?” but there’s no where to go because your just Falling into an abyss full of wonder, intrigue, and magnificence. During these Desperate Times most Sexy Rebels feeling the riddim stay Locked and Loaded. If you so happen to be one of these rebels, being strapped doesn’t mean that you’re strapped for cash, and you stop for some One Stop Shopping but soon find that in your mind there is no need for materialistic driven goals. You see that your lover is Your Reward and the mutual feeling of Straight Love is a mutual Thing. If you are one who feels the DogBoy, his message, or his Rhythmic Rebel Yell pick the CD and give it a gander.

The DogBoy is among one of those few who has traveled the world over, collecting and immense stockhold of inspirations. Creating this melting pot of sounds not yet thought of one way or another by anyone else, but he pulls it off with almost greatest of ease.
