No, I wasn't (well I was born about 2 years after he hit his peak about), but I have a question for you, were you alive during the civil war? no, but a part of me thinks you know how it ended. What he did to Nu-Metal is obvious as fuck, I mean, would YOU wanna be associated with fred durst??? Why would you rap in your song and have people hate you for no reason when you could just do what everyone else is doing? His fingerprints are all over this shit, and I have heard stories of bands being afraid of rapping (not just anecdotally, like straight up) but I'm having a hard time finding something on it with google, it may have been apart of something bigger (like an interview) but yeah, that.

Nah, Nu Metal got it's reputation for being dumbed down party music for edgy frat boys. A lot of metal and punk fans who think mumble rap will be the destruction of hip hop compare it to nu metal for being generally uninspired, dumbed down, cringey, fake deep, etc. Nu Metal and pop punk were the last times rock was the king of popular music before the genre withered into the underground. I listen to Nu Metal sometimes, I'm not hating. Though, for my personal taste, I take Slipknot hands down over Korn any day. Not every bit of music needs to be super intelligent, thoughtful or deep. Sometimes I just like raw energy or raw emotion. That's literally the same appeal that a lot of soundcloud rap has.
Limp Bizkit is the reason why people wince at the idea of rap rock though. Well, ICP too actually. But obviously ICP is much much much much better than Limp Bizkit.

I'm sure a fuck ton of fans knew VERY well what was happening. You're basically saying you have to make good music or you're magically blind to what's happening in your industry. When you work in an industry, you learn about it, no matter how shitty you are at your job. I can assure you Chad Kroeger knows what's happening in the rock and metal industries, or, if he doesn't, one of the people he works with, a label, a manager etc. Does know.
