you’d be surprised at how people perceive things. a person who dresses poorly could (note could not would or will, but it is likely. again not the way i feel but it is reality) be  taken a criminal, they cannot afford to buy something so it is perceived that they will steal it. wrong and highly offensive, but tell me im wrong that people don’t perceive it that way.

 

personally i believe if you cant take yourself serious enough to take care of your personal hygiene (grooming, smells, clothing etc) then i cannot take you serious either. there is a time and a place for stained and dirty sweat pants, and it is not an interview.

 

its a different way of saying a girl who dresses like a whore wants to be raped. i suppose.

And more common as well, most people assume that if you are fat then it is because you are lazy and dont take care of yourself. its true in some cases, but most of the time its not.

again, i dont believe any of this, but society as a mass buys into this crap. because pretty people get on the tv with pretty muscles and tell you how fat and lazy you are.

 

on that note, im gonig to bed. should ahve been there like 2 ours ago. but my legs are itching like a murfucker. new tattoos suck. Also, never get your foot tattooed. its dumb, dont do it. like seriously. its been like 7 hours and i still feels like someone is trying to drill a hole in my foot. 

I don’t think dressing for an interview is the same in any way as saying a girl

is asking to get raped. You are trying to put your best foot forward during an interview, which is why it is important to be properly groomed and bathed. A girl going out can dress however she wants, she’s not trying to get a job, and just because she dresses in a way that some people deem “slutty” doesn’t mean she deserves to have sex FORCED upon her. Why isn’t there such thing as guys dressing slutty and asking to get raped?

In Australia, I don’t think it’s as bad as the U.S., but we have to deal with religion in almost every facet of our suppossedly secular government. They try and force religion in schools, in the courts, in the law, everywhere!

I’m with Novocaine on this one, though I have to admit a few of his arguments are, perhaps, poorly constructed.

Essentially, the point is that you don’t have to conform to society’s standards, but you do have to be aware of the perceptions of others and how those perceptions may effect you. If you look like a thug, you may bear extra scrutiny by law enforcement. If you look homeless, you may fail to interview well for a job. If you look shady, you may find a store’s security people paying extra attention to you.

The two arguments I feel the need to argue, or at least clarify from my own standpoint, are the fat person one, and the “girl getting raped” scenario. Fat doesn’t necessarily equal lazy, though either one can result in the other. There are other reasons someone may be fat, typically of the medical or mental variety. Or, it may just be appearance – linemen in football are a good example. Many of them may be considered “fat”, but they damn sure (typically) ain’t “lazy”. Now, for the more incisive discussion. “Is a girl at fault for being raped because she dresses slutty”? The answer, unpopular as it may be, is yes – to a degree. Hold on, hear me out before you lynch me. By appearing to be “easy”, a woman will garner the attention of men who are attracted to that. Those men are attracted to “easy” women because that appearance involves the unspoken promise of getting laid. At a certain point of sexual excitement, men’s logic goes out the window (not just some men, but most) and the animal brain takes over. If, after that “point of no return” so to speak, the man learns that the object of his desire isn’t as easy as she appeared to be, that’s where the potential for a rape occurs. So, while I’d never “blame” a woman for being raped, because it’s solely the man’s choice to act against her will… I will say that the woman bears some responsibility for consciously putting herself in that position.

Again – In today’s society, you must be aware of the consequences of other people’s perception of you. Fair or not, that’s the way the world is.

So what you’re saying is that if YOU or MOST GUYS YOU KNOW were to be rejected by a woman, you would rape them? There’s something seriously wrong with society when we try to control what women wear because Men don’t have the decency to control themselves. It’s not that hard not to rape a woman, I refrain from it every day. Now, I don’t have a problem with women wanting to know how to protect themselves. I’ve seen people actually claim that is promoting rape culture, but I think that’s ridiculous.

All I am saying is that the man is COMPLETELY at fault for raping a woman, what the woman wears is not a factor.

The instances that I DO think it’s bullshit to call rape is if both parties are drunk. If a woman cannot consent to sex when she is drunk, neither can a man.

If you truly love females don’t rape them, let them come to you. Or date rape them.

I don’t think she’s asking for it. People can want sex and then change their mind.
