First thoughts: disappointed as fuck. Too much singing, too much rock and weird mixing.

I’ll do a full review in few days.

These guys sing (“sing”) way too much. They can’t carry a tune AT ALL but they insist on singing on so many of their songs these days. Back when they started with this crap on Mutant, it was like, OK, they’re trying something different, they’re not good at it, but it’s cool that they tried out something new and it was almost endearing that they kept it on the album when it sounded so bad (songs like “Familiar,” etc). But now it’s like, still? Ten years later? Also they are not only bad at singing, they are bad at WRITING vocal melodies. It’s really strange.

Also the hard rock/metal guitars and shit that they do, you can tell they don’t actually listen to ANY heavy metal or hardcore music. I mean, have you EVER heard either of them mention a single band that they like? The closest I’ve heard is complaining, “Oh, Slipknot doesn’t wanna do a track with us.” Jamie and Paul couldn’t name five Slipknot songs, combined, if their lives depended on it. Still excited for the tour to hit NYC in a few weeks but mostly for nostalgia’s sake. Jealous of anyone who’s getting a Freektastless show.  

The irony is that most hardcore metal and punk scenes don’t really like or respect Slipknot that much… they actually don’t like numetal as a whole meaning that they dislike Slipknot, Korn, Disturbed, etc. showing how much you actually know about the scene you are scrutinizing them for not knowing shit about.

As for rock music as a whole I know Jamie has talked about liking Pink Floyd, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Black Sabbath, Rob Zombie, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and Bring Me The Horizon. Hell, here is a list he gave in an interview…
