(hi, I’m new here!)
It was way better than I was expecting. That doesn’t mean it was perfect by any means, but I think Twiztid picked some pretty weak singles so I was expecting a total flop. Definitely exceeded my expectations.
I agree with the H&H comparisons. I think my main qualm with the album is the mixing/production. Twiztid has always had some questionable production (unpopular opinion: I think everything from Freek Show to Mutant was pretty bad because Fritz is horrible imo). But on this one it feels like the vocals are mixed too low for how heavy the album is. Definitely a lot more rock oriented than most of their stuff. A minor pet peeve is the drums on a lot of the tracks sound metallic. I haaaate that. Ever heard Metallica’s St. Anger? Reminds me of that. Also I don’t think this album has any particularly good hooks. To make a comparison to ICP, I’ve always felt like ICP were weak rappers with excellent production and an ear for hooks, while Twiztid are dope rappers with hit or miss production and weak hooks. I think that’s why I like Dark Lotus so much. Shame that’s dead now lol.
But overall I think it’s pretty good. Definitely not their best, but a solid effort. Favorite tracks are Barely Surviving, Come On Let’s Get High (just because it’s been aaages since they put a stoner anthem on an lp. There used to be one per album) and Psychomania. For me personally, it doesn’t come close to Wicked or Abominationz, but I’d say it’s in the same tier as Darkness and H&H. Which for me means it’s pretty damn good.
Also worth noting I’m not invested in juggalo culture and have no interest in the beef. Just a big fan of the music, so take that information as you will.
are we the same person?
lol jk but I agree completely on the mixing aspect…hoping it’ll sound better on vinyl but idk…I do like the album for what it is though…think the album title is kinda dumb and Kill Somebody is basically a ‘how to’ on making a horrorcore song (it’s not a bad song but I feel like I’ve heard the same kinda song over and over again from them…maybe chainsaws and axes are losing their appeal to me idk) but I enjoyed the album…I always like when Twiztid (and ICP for that matter) steps outside their NORMAL shit and do something different even though a lot of juggalos prefer they stick to the same old shit (not dissing those types just pointing it out)

i agree, thats probably why it’s so mundane to some of us.. however the chorus shouldve been a whole lot simpler and repetitive if it were truly a “horrocroe, how to”.. i think its more-so one for a skeleton twiztid song, than horrorcore in general.. also, i give twiztid props for having the skill to write out those long non-repetitive choruses.. those aint easy..

Got mine today. I preordered an autographed one. Happy that I got 2 books, an autographed book, and a regular one. (if thats the norm, i wouldnt know, it seemed pretty nice tho)
It’s sounding fuckin good. Barely Surviving (ride or die) is a good ass track, probably my favorite. The ride or die half of that song is some real good shit. Long Road Home reminds me alot of The Argument on Mans Myth (i dig that shit!). The biggest disappointment is that Psychomania doesn’t just add more verses to the VIP version… Its in fact just the beat that was used, all lyrics are different. I expected a bigger version, not a totally new one. The album is pretty solid. It’s kinda all over the place (in a good way for me personally) and at the same time is overall a pretty easy listening Twiztid album. Its getting a third listen in a few minutes.
I got the gmo skee ninja star. Which is awesome!

The main thing I’ve read about the new album around the net is “it’s a mess”.I didn’t buy it. Heard a few songs on youtube. Wasn’t digging it.
it’s less of a mess than The Darkness…worst thing about this album is the stupid title lol and the mixing which could definitely have been done better in some areas
not sure how much this ICP/Twiztid beef is having an effect on people’s opinions of this album or if they just don’t like it…not talking about you in particular but what were people wanting/expecting from it?

So I’ve listened to the album a few more times since I last posted. I thought maybe some stuff would grow on me but it’s going the opposite direction. A majority of the album is complete and total bullshit like they are legitimately trying to sell out. The ICP beef has nothing at all to do with my opinion on the music. As far as what I was wanting/expecting, I was expecting some different sounds and types of beats but not a total abandonment of what we all love about them. Most of my favorite bands sound different from one album to the next and I never expect anyone to stay the same, but they all still keep their identity and please most of their core audience. But if we do consider the ICP beef, this album itself does almost sound like further evidence that Twiztid isn’t trying to fuck with the Juggalos as much anymore.

I disagree with most of this personally but we do agree on them trying to expand their audience past just juggalos (I don’t think they’re done with them altogether judging by the first track alone but they definitely want a bigger audience of listeners)…you can call it selling out I guess but I really don’t see it as that lol now that Trapped EP?…whether it was a joke concept or not that was some sellout shit and was wack as fuck to me lol but I see this album as just experimental…obviously not everyone will fuck with it but if it was mixed just a little better I’d personally be ready to call it one of their better projects especially as of late…Madrox’s rapping/singing is really well done on here I thought (that shit he does on Black Clouds was dope as fuck IMO)…Mono was even impressing me on this…there’s some corniness hear and there but it’s Twiztid they’ve always been kinda corny
all that being said I get why some folks wouldn’t fuck with this…I wanna hear nonjuggalos reaction to this to see if their attempts to reach out actually have any effect

Word, well I’m glad some people dig it. Monoxide and Madrox are both very talented and they have continued to grow in both the rapping and singing departments their whole career. I just straight up think, for the first time ever, they did a bunch of shit that has been done by a billion other artists before them. I’ll look forward to their next release when the time comes still. And yes, Trapped EP I just assumed was a joke. I listened to it once, said “huh?” and never again.

most of my homies now are non juggalos, mainly because I’m not involved in drugs and crime anymore which is shitty but the true reason. anyways there are so many non juggalos that listen to icp but damn near none that listen to twiztid that I know of. I’ve been playing this album around them and they aren’t diggin it whatsoever. I don’t think it’s garbage, but it’s not up to twiztid standards.

I’ve listened to it several times now and overall I’d say it’s an album full of good songs but not many great songs. In fact, Kill Somebody is the only stand out track to me. I know some of you don’t care for it, finding it simplistic or whatever but to me it sounds like classic Twiztid. Unoriginal or not, if this had come out before say, We Don’t Die, I think people would love it alot more. Other songs I really like but wouldn’t consider great would be Black Clouds, Psychomania and Long Road Home. Alot of the album for me just kinda runs together though and is fairly forgettable although not necessarily bad.

I think it might have to come down to the people who think that twiztid are bitches for leaving psy. I thought the album was good, the slower songs are having to grow on me though.
The first time i listened to the cd it was on my walk to work and when I heard How does it feel part 2, I screamed like a school girl cause i was so happy they “kinda” finished the song. :)

So I’ve finally been able to give the FULL album a listen a few times over….
My first impression after having seen Twiztid play at several Gatherings and Fright Fests…
This album is HEAVILY influenced on the live performance side. IMO.
Like, I can already see the live presentation of this album on stage.
I’ll pretend like I don’t know who their live drummer is, but if I did not know that they now tour with one, I’d be inclined to get the impression that this entire album has [almost] been geared towards the inclusion of said “live” drummer…
Most fer certain there are some real keepers, but on the overall breakdown relative to everything this album was supposed to “tent-pole”…
[taken as individual pills to swallow]
Trk 1 – Barely Surviving (Ride or Die) /// Solid track that manages to cram in the word “juggalo” a few times until the final section. Acoustic guitar out of NO WHERE!!! and then some BS “drum solo padding” for the live set.
Trk 2 – Are You Insane Like Me? /// Who ordered the KMK hook? Cuz all I’m trippin’ on is some B-side Kotton Mouth Kings accompanied by Twiztid’s live tour drummer…
Trk 3 – Kill Somebody /// Totally solid song and the video is fuckin’ ART! Until I actually saw the video itself, the PR photos of it looked like they were both wearing make-up applications and not mostly an AMAZING body paint! If for nothing else, whoever did that shit should be gettin’ awards!
Trk 4 – Dean n’ Gone /// IMO, skippable and nothing of note
Trk 5 – Black Clouds /// Another throwaway track that drags an anchor on the album that seems to wanna jock the ending of Hopsin’s “Ill Mind 8” outro sermon. The repetitive chorus makes it an anthem ballad, don’tcha know!
Trk 6 – I Got These Feelings /// Huh? I don’t get the groove on this one. The guitar is like some kinda remix of a Peter, Bjorn & John song…
[side bar]
Whoever the fuck they got doing their engineering needs to LAY THE FUCK OFF OF THE FLANGE AND PASS FILTERS!!!!!!!!
Not everyone is deaf to that shit! It’s not “clever”, it’s fuckin’ GLARING!!!
Trk 7 – Nothing To You /// This is a GREAT FUCKIN’ SONG… for the soundtrack of “The Crow” back in ’96! Good shit! But a bit late and AGAIN, another song I can totally see their drummer going off on with Mono screaming at the corners of the stage…
[shitty interstitial] Madrox will always be the Lou Costello to Monoxide’s Bud Abbot. Jamie’s got voices. Paul’s got a shitty skit for the next song…
Trk 8 – Come On Let’s Get High – Are you kidding me? This sound like a fuckin’ B-side of a KMK song trying to make a track for “The Chronic Part 2″… It fits in NOWHERE. And not fer nuthin’ but it has NO flow FROM or INTO the songs before or after it were it not for the afore mentioned “shitty skits”. Detroit rappers on some West Coast beachside sunset shit…
Trk 9 – 1k Hells 2 Find My Heaven /// Word salad. Not feelin’ that constant “WAAAAaaaaaaahhh!” of their lines.
[interstitial] Voice mail… Um… huh…?
Trk 10 – That’s Why They All Hate Us More Than You’ll Ever Know /// Another song with their live drummer in mind. I’m sure it looks good that way but the song just makes me think of drumsticks and kick peddles.
Is there supposed to be a “hidden track” contained between 10 & 12 that sounds like they used the original hook they had in a Psychopathic track…? [seriously, refresh my memory cuz that shit’s familiar]
Trk 11 -Psychomania /// Really? They’re gonna play with names like that? “Featuring Blaze Ya Dead Homie, The R.O.C., and Zodiac Imprint”….?!? Who you tryin’ tuh convince? Decent cypher but stilted… the back beats are some old ass Casio shit…
Trk 12 – Long Road Home /// Once again… another track that totally reveals itself as one meant to be played live with their drummer… and where’d the fuck the female vocal come from?! Considering there isn’t ANY female accompaniment anywhere else in the album…
IMO… overall… the singles are the take-aways and the rest is EASILY forgettable (except for that video! That shit needs nominations!). IOW, other than a specific tour around the album itself, we won’t be hearing any of these tracks any other time besides the standouts.
It’ll be a long time coming until they can crank out another “LDLHA”, or for that matter (apparently) another fuckin’ “Down With Us”.
Magik Ninja better hope G-Mo doesn’t become the next Cold 187um or that Blaze won’t miss being all but a fuckin’ *headliner* at The Gathering… cuz Gorilla Voltage (as awesome as those two tracks I heard seem to be) ain’t gonna transition into the “movement” Monoxide claims they’re gonna give us…
Magick, Magick, Ninja… What?!
No. Seriously.
What?!
