lotta good observations in this thread.for me:
people who call me ‘sir’ or ‘mister’ after ive taken time to explain that i cant fuckin stand that.
I work with a Hatian guy, and ever sentence, he drops like, 3 Sirs in it. so fuckin annoying. and he studders when he talks and tells stories, which instantly makes me lose interest in what he is saying

if its just a very respectful person, thats one thing.
mostly it just gets me when its the customer service bitch, or a bill collector or somethin, and they make it clear from their tone that what they really mean by ‘sir’ is, ‘you asshole’.
police occasionally do this, too. not a lot, but once in a while.
id have more regard for these people if they were, if not honest, at least not trying to be fake.
awfully paranoid, arent you?

Commercials that flat out don’t understand the terms they use. (Sprint saying “More G’s in more places”. G’s is not a scalar value of quantity of anything. It is short for “generation” as in 4th Generation. The nomenclature refers to a change in the fundamental nature of the service. A non-backwards-compatible transmission technology.)
TV shows that use improper grammar leading to the public at large thinking it is the correct way to speak. The worst is when they end sentences in prepositions. Now everyone seems to do it because they have made it sound right. “Where are you at?” instead of “Where are you?” “Who are you looking for?” instead of “For whom are you looking?” The former sounds more “correct” now since they have dumbed us down to incorrect speak. (And this goes with the last example – when they use “Who” instead of “Whom”. “Who” is always nominative. “Whom” should always be used in the objective case. Prepositional phrases must always end with the object of the preposition, hence the objective case.)
iPhones and their users that think it’s the greatest thing. It may have been the first in various innovations back in the day, but that has not been the case for a long time. They sport the “new” larger size now which Samsung has been doing for years. About a year or so ago they talked about the new fingerprint recognition which my 3 year old Motorola already had. Voice recognition? Had that too before iPhone. The market shares speak for themselves. September 09, 2014: Android owns 80.2% of smartphone market share worldwide while Apple is just at 14.8%. Plus I can load any type of OS I want on my phone with no problems. I can program it with a non-proprietary programing language. Try loading a different OS on an iPhone.
Again, another grammar issue: Using the predicate case of a pronoun after a linking verb. The subject compliment after words like “is” or “was” should always use the nominative case in pronouns. It should be “The person was I.” not “The person was me.” We have become so accustomed to the media perpetuated wrong way of speaking that now it doesn’t even sound right to speak correctly.
Most of all, I am irritated by grammar Nazis!

@scruffy , I know stuff like this has been posted before. Hell, I even started a similar one, but I think it needs to be done every so often.
@psyral-infection I remember reading an article stating that the rule of not ending a sentence with a preposition was literally just something some guy made up, and it stuck.
FOUND IT, basically people in the past were punk bitches and wanted English to be more like Latin. This isn’t the same article I was referencing, but it gets the job done.

Some more irritating things:
Overzealous religious people.
Overzealous NONreligious people.
People who give a shit what people do when it doesn’t even affect them (e.g. people getting butthurt over gay marriage.)
The fact that Surge keeps selling out on Amazon like an hour after Coke restocks it.
People who complain about little things that shouldn’t even bother them that much.

Wow. Thanks! I did not know that. Now I can cross one thing off my irritation list.

Also, any linguist would tell you you are being “prescriptionist” with language and that usage trumps rules.
Basically, we are heading towards the future shown in Idiocracy.
It IS true that usage trumps rules though, or we’d still be speaking like Shakespeare.

I hate how paper towel commercials try to show how much better their paper towels are by showing a close up on it cleaning a mess, but even if you use the shittiest paper towel, and look close when you wipe a little liquid puddle, it does the same thing! it absorbs, and cleans the mess! Fuck you Bounty and your overpriced paper towels!
how nobody could think of a better name to name an “Orange” other than using the color it is! why not call Bananas “yellow”. MMMM I could sure use a yellow split right now

‘The earliest uses of the word in English refer to the fruit, and the colour was later named after the fruit. Before the English-speaking world was exposed to the fruit, the colour was referred to as “yellow-red” (geoluread in Old English) or “red-yellow””

people who ask me what im doing when i eat a humburger upside down. its designed to be eaten like that. the top of the bun soaks up any juices stopping you from making a mess on yourself.
people who have bad hygiene, seriously if you dont shower atleast put on some deodorant. please. its not so much to ask.
self service counters at the supermarket. seriously who is it helping? nobody. its fucking dumb. when i pay for groceries i also pay for a service. if you take away the service and not reduce the price as far as im concerned your stealing from me.

Some people just like the taste of diet coke. Plus, the Soda is the worst part of the meal anyway.

I doubt the Soda is the least of this guys worries
So, I was looking it up, sugar in soda increases weight gain b/c of blood sugar spikes. But, diet soda doesn’t help shit, in fact it can be worse.
I DO know people who drink diet soda for taste though.

I never order a dpuble whopper but ill almost always order diet soda because ibe been accustomed to it for years. In some sense the soda is the worst thing because it has.no nutritional benefit, like the supposed burger meat at least has protein and veggies on it, with lycopene in the ketchup and minerals etc … but im sure the deeeeep fat gives quite a body blow. Soda isnt all bad as most say though.. if you were dehydrated, it would give you immediate relief and energy to help yourself. Even beer and coffee are better than nothing.in an extreme thirst situation i have read. Its just that the caffeine and/or alcohol will dry you out after time. If it can give your body the surge for emergency aid, then fuck ill drink it.
But yeah, i love me some water more than anything, but the media tries to get us afraid.of that too.

Damn. We done got ourselves a edumicated one here. Well, I guess I should drop over half of my annoyances since they mostly deal with grammar that is really not in regular usage.
We need to converse more. I can spout off my so called knowledge and you can squash it with facts. I wish we could have hung out more at the gathering. I’ll make it a point next year.
