Potluck has amassed a huge following in the Underground music scene. Their unique style and sound draws fans who share their love of all things hip hop and cannabis.  Having once shared a label with the weed smoking juggernaut, Kottonmouth Kings, Potluck had to stand tall and make their own way in the business.  With both leaving the label Potluck stands alone and in many ways has left their successors behind.  #Stonerproblems is a follow-up to their 2012 release, The Humboldt Chronicles, and much anticipated by the fans.

Track by track review and rating

Blow Ya Head Off- The lead of the track is a “news report” about a weed bust and that gives way to a solid slow beat.  The first verse is delivered by Underrated and is a prime example of his quick flow.  The hook itself is really simple but it works here.  1 Ton hits the second verse with his slow methodical flow and it is a nice balance from the first verse. 3.5/5

Better Me Ft James Boy- Another slow driving beat backs this track.  The hook is delivered by James Boy and works well with the tone of the track.  The first verse is done really well by 1 ton and continues the tone of always growing and being better.  Underrated flows really quick in the second verse and it is well done.  The overall tone of positivity and never being comfortable where you are at is a great message. 4.5/5

Smokin’ Good ft Irv Da Phenom- A solid smoker track here.  The beat is heavy on bass and electronic backing.  Underrated slows his flow here and it shows his ability to alter his style.  1 Ton does well in his verse.  Irv is only used for the hook and that is a little disappointing. 3.5/5

Hold Me Down- This track is a love song.  It allows the listener to make a solid connection with them as people not just artists.  1 Ton leads the track with a solid verse and Underrated finishes it off with a well written verse.  The hook is simple but speaks volumes. 4.5/5

Hashtag- This song is a great display of properly using Hashtags!  The entire song is a line followed by a hashtag and it works well.  Very funny and well done. 5/5

Got What Ya Need ft Green R Fieldz- Another bass heavy beat backs this track.  The theme here is their ability to get and supply weed.  Both 1 Ton and Underrated give really good verses.  Green R Fieldz finishes the track off with a well performed verse.  The hook is simple again but doesn’t add a lot here. 3/5

Gladiators ft Black P- This track has another really positive message, never give up.  The tone and theme runs throughout all of the verses and is backed up with a impactful hook.  Black P is the last verse and it is alright but seems to fall a little short. 4.2/5

OG Ganga Farmer ft Winstrong- This is a reggae heavy track about being a weed farmer.  The tone is prevalent in not only the verses but the hook as well.  Underrated’s flow is a lot slower but that is needed here.  Winstrong gives a very Jamaican heavy verse and it works well with this beat.  1 Ton finished the track off nicely. 3.7/5

High School- A simple almost acapella track here.  It sounds like something you would hear in a school cafeteria.  Both artists give solid verses and stick to the feel of the track. 4.2/5

Dream Chaser ft James Boy- James Boy knocks the hook out again and it gives another positive vibe.  The track itself is all about chasing dreams and not letting anything stop you.  1 Ton leads the track off and it is a really well written verse.  Underrated slows his verse again and it rounds the track off nicely. 4/5

4 Minute Fire Drill- A follow up to 3 minute miracle.  Now Underrated takes on 4 minutes.  The biggest difference is the change of beat throughout the track.  He shows he has the ability to change up the flow and not miss a beat. 5/5

Troublemaker ft Krizz Kaliko- Slow bass heavy beat returns here.  Underrated and 1 Ton hit solid verses but once again Krizz Kaliko was only in the hook.  Having a featured artist works well but as a listener some may want a verse from them as well. 3.5/5

Turn Up The Bass ft Liquid Assassin- 1 word for the beat, Bass.  This track will definitely have a club bouncing.  1 Ton and Underrated exchange verses and give way to LA in the last verse.  This track works on a lot of levels. 4/5

People As A Whole- This track has a really simple beat.  The theme here is that there are always people who want to see you fail.  It also speaks on overcoming those people and proving them wrong.  The verses and hook all work to push that message. 4/5

Down With The Krown- This track is a diss track directed at former label mates the Kottonmouth Kings in the style of Mortal combat.  It definitely throws a lot of blows and leaves people wondering how and when the Kings will respond. 3.5/5

Life’s A Bitch ft Wrekonize- A head bouncing beat drives this track forward.  1 Ton leads off with a well written verse that flows well over the beat.  Underrated goes next and also flows well over the track.  Wrekonize finishes this one with a well written and performed verse.  The hook is simple but effective. 3.8/5

Money Don’t Sleep- A very slow beat finishes the album off.  The theme of never quitting and always hustling to get ahead is furthered here.  The hook is not as successful but it is alright here.  Underrated finishes the track with a slow flow that allows his lyrics to shine through. 3.5/5

Overall Rating: 3.9/5

Conclusion: For fans that waited two and a half years for this release will thoroughly enjoy this release.  Potluck gives fans a solid and uplifting album.  They mix in enough humor and variety to make this enjoyable from beginning to end.  A must for fans of solid well written hip hop.
