Born and raised in Detroit, Jason Porter has a long and vast history in the music business. It all started back in ’92, when Jason Porter (a troubled drug addict at the time) joined forces with “Poppa Shane”, a popular rapper in Detroit’s Hip Hop scene of the time (i.e. ICP, Esham, Kid Rock). Together they formed the infamous and now legendary “Mad Trauma”. From 92-97, “Mad Trauma” played house parties and underground clubs, in between recording tracks at the now famous “Disc Ltd Recording Studio” (recording studio of ICP, Eminem, etc). In early ’96, Mad Trauma released its first and only full length album in existence, the much sought-after “Fatally Wounded” to good reviews throughout the local Hip Hop community. The duo continued to play shows, releasing several singles, until early 97, when Jason Porter became homeless and found himself living in the back of an ’83 Chevy van. Finding himself deeper into drugs and the streetlife after narrowly avoiding a lengthy prison sentence on weapons charges, Jason Porter debated an offer to move to California. Reluctantly, Jason left Mad Trauma in ’97 for Cali to start a new project and pursue deals.

New on the scene, Jason promoted day and night, which in turn earned him a strong fan base and hundreds of gigs. With the 2005 release of his highly anticipated solo album “Vengeance Is Mine”, Jason Porter was back doing what he does best – sick Hip Hop with a dark edge. Early 2006 brought Jason a relapse into the drug world, leaving him struggling with his own demons and addictions. Always one to run away from his problems, Jason relocated to Phoenix, AZ.

In June of 2008, he was featured on Psychopathic Record’s “Tunnel Runners” album, which debuted at number 21 on the Billboard Rap Charts. After a short stint in Wolfpac on the Dark Lotus tour in the summer of 2008, he soon returned to Phoenix, where he currently resides, drifting from place to place. Jason’s latest release, the “I Got These Cheeseburgers” mixtape was released free in early 2011, to mass approval from fans. In his 20th year on the mic, Jason continues to push Hip Hop past the limits of bad taste.

Track by track review and rating

1.     Strive- Short intro featuring a speech by Al Pacino.  N/A

2.     Gypsies- The beat in this song is backed by a 60’s guitar riff and sound.  The beat is a good mix of styles.  The verse is very disjointed from the musical backing and the hook is too simple with no real purpose.  The levels of vocals to music need adjusting.  5/10

3.     Horror Movie- The music dives into the 80’s horror film sound effects in this one.  The lyrics are good and fit the beat overall but the hook is the star in the track.  Levels again are not right.  7/10

4.     Sfda Ft Crooked of Darkroom Familia- This track continues the 80’s horror film sound from the last one.  The levels between the vocals and music are off here too.  The verses are hard to hear and the hook is way too simple here.  5/10

5.     The Gonzo King- The music contains a snippet from an 80’s song.  The vocal levels need work here again.  The verses are decent and the hook is ok.  6/10

6.     Porno Ft Psycho Jesus- A simple beat allows the lyrics to be heard which for some listeners will be a turn off.  The lyrics are very graphic sexually but not done with much class.  6/10

7.     My Athletix: The Clem 1987- Very short interlude here. A remake of My Adidas that doesn’t really work here. 6/10

8.     Last Breath Ft Mastamind, Lord Infamous, Cutthroat & Checkmait- The beat in this track is pure horrorcore.  The verses are wicked as hell and the hook is dope and fits the song well.  This is the best track on the album up to this point.  9/10

9.     Face On The Wall- The beat is really toned down here.  The hook is haunting and works with the beat here.  The verses don’t fit as well but the content works well.  7/10

10.   Major Grimeage (Raw Sewage Mix) Ft Phat T & Hopsin- Another dark beat with this one.  The verses work very well with the beat.  The hook needs more complexity but it does not distract from the song.  8/10

11.   Pitfall- The levels once again are off and it takes away from the listener’s enjoyment of both the verses and the music.  6/10

12.   You- Another short track here.  The singing does not work in this track.  The lyrics are once again not very good.  A whole song about STD’s would work if it had a message which this song does not.  5/10

13.   Operator? Ft Bukshot- The music here is more of a metal/rap hybrid.  The levels need to be evened out to allow the verses to be better.  Bukshot gives a great verse here but it is hard to hear because of the issues with the levels.  7/10

14.   Insomnia Ft Klirx- A nice beat here, not too complex but it works.  The levels are not as bad as most of the tracks on the CD but still need to be evened out. 6/10

15.   Kill Again’s Island- The sexual theme of the album continues here.  The beat is nice but definitely does not fit the lyrics.  6/10

16.   On The Run (Recreated)- Another simple beat here.  The vocals drown out the beat for most of the song.  The theme of the album is in this song again. 6/10

17.   The Whole World Is A POS- The beat is too busy and distracts from the lyrics.  The levels are once again way off.  The hook is simple but leaves a lot to be desired.  5/10

Overall Album Rating:  5.5/10

Conclusion:  This album needs a lot of work on the levels between the vocals and music.  Too many tracks suffered because of this.  If you are a Jason Porter fan you will find some tracks that you dig.  If you have never heard his music you will have a hard time not finding something else to listen to.  The raunchy sexual theme is overdone and leaves the listener shaking their heads.  If you want a raunchy and classless album this is the one.  If not there are other sexual CD’s on the market (Krizz Kaliko’s latest effort) that fit much better.  Jason Porter had an Appetite For Self Destruction and it showed throughout the entire album.
