WOLFPAC’s musical flavor is hard, energetic, and straight up in your face. They kick it old-school hip-hop style blending beats with a mix of hard-core and metal samples tempered with over the top lyrics that are far from the same old subject matter of the regurgitated rap of today. “Evil is…” the second release from the hard-hitting group unfurls sundry uncanny topics, from coming back from the dead to exact revenge upon those that have wronged you, to never backing down in a fight to the proper ways of making love to a corpse!

WOLFPAC’s origins stem from the Philadelphia area’s BloodHound Gang, the group whose massive-selling independent release “Dingleberry Haze” earned them a major label bidding war. After landing a deal with Columbia Records, this wacky troop released “Use Your Fingers”, which went on to sell almost 250,000 copies nationwide. After their second album’s release, one of the founding members, Daddy Long Legs, left the BloodHound Gang and went on to concoct WOLFPAC.

Soon after “Somthin Wicked This Way Comes”, WOLFPAC’s debut album released on Chord Records sold out fast to the tune of 15,000 copies without the help or confines of a major label. Instead of a million-dollar promotion push, WOLFPAC focused its growth on building a underground grass roots following, developed through word-of-mouth, touring, the internet, and storming the likes of the “Howard Stern Show” eventually making a fan of Stern himself! Aside from winning over the King of All Media, WOLFPAC have several other notches under their belts. Like sponsorships from Jagermeister, touring the nation as well as internationally with acts such as Insane Clown Posse, Slipknot, Twiztid, and many more. Their music has even been featured prominently on their own series of adult movies titled “The Girls of WOLFPAC” which gained them not one but two AVN award nominations!

As for WOLFPAC live, their name is just a hint to how their performance goes far beyond mere music. Their shows are highly interactive, with the MC’s in the midst of the mosh pit as often as on stage and their fans are nearly as vocal as the members themselves. “Our fans are like our family,” Daddy says adding, “If you’re the kind of person who can relate to our music you’re the kind of person who can relate to us on a personal level!” Once described as the “Wu-Tang Clan meets the Misfits on crack”, WOLFPAC’s unconventional approach has found appeal with a fan base that draws from many different walks of life as well as many different demographics. “It’s very fresh,” Daddy says, adding, “It’s all one big dysfunctional family all bound by a common tie, music! After all, isn’t that the way it is supposed to be?”

WOLFPAC has just finished their third studio album titled “Square Peg Round Hole” which is slated for release this August and judging from their past musical works coupled with their ever evolving extreme live show there is no telling what amount of game changing devastation they are about to unleash on the world. It’s time to shake the box, and raise the bar one more time, and WOLFPAC has come to do just that

Track by track review and rating

1. Death By Numbers- A longer intro, mostly spoken word.  Nice beat but not really a ratable track.  N/A

2. Square Peg Round Hole- This track has the sound you have come to expect from Wolfpac.  Hard driving beat backed by nice guitar riffs.  The verses are decent but at times the beat drowns out the lyrics.  A good hook makes the track enjoyable and eaily transformed to live performances.  6/10

3. Let Me Hit It- This track was made for a live show.  The beat and music backing are not as clear as you would want but the hook and verses are definitely going to go well live.  Decent track but nothing new or inventive from the group here.  6/10

4. Oh Pee Pee- Wolfpac’s remake of a Hip Hop Classic.  The addition of the guitar adds a nice flavor to the track overall.  A good jam track.  8/10

5. A Special Kind Of Love- This is the group’s idea of a “love” song.  Definitely not what you would expect from a love song.  The beat is very simple and allows the lyrics to come through here, and that is not a good thing.  While very comedic and humorous at times, the content pushed the limits of decency.  5/10

6. Step On Up To The Plate- This track is back to the sound that Wolfpac has coined.  Good driving beat and guitar backing.  A good jam track that will once again do live.  7/10

7. See N Say- Short interlude.  Not much here but some humor.  N/A

8. Ain’t She A Looker- A very complex beat lead by a driving beat here.  The verses are good but at times don’t come through as clear because of the beat.  A nice hook.  7/10

9. Get Your Hands Up Ft Mars, Kung Fu Vampire & Defekt- The only collab on the album.  A great beat which is complex without being overly complex.  The featured artists add quite a bit to the track.  9/10

10. Ball-Sided Crazy- In this track we get to sit in on a Wolfpac Therapy session.  A nice slow beat and great hook make this track enjoyable.  The verses are not complicated and quite simple in rhyme scheme.  8/10

11. False Prophets- The beat is great in this track.  The levels between lyrics and music are way off though.  The hook is leveled well and makes the track more enjoyable.  6/10

12. Alwayz4eva- A slow melodic beat backs this one.  The verses are done well and the hook takes a loop from Donna Lewis.  8/10

13. The Indecisive Obscene Phone Call- Another short interlude that throws a little comedy into the mix.  N/A

14. Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark- A much stripped down beat with minor guitar riffs.  Great verse and hook make this one of the best tracks on the album.  9/10

15. Put Your Dukes Up- This is the standard fight song on the album.  Driving beat and guitar bring that sound the listener comes to expect.  Decent verses and hook will make this a live show gem.  8/10

16. Let The Blood Rain- A good beat and hook are brought down a little by the mix.  The verses are good and make the track enjoyable.  7/10

17. What Doesn’t Kill You- This is the most unique sounding track on the album.  A simple guitar riff over a slower beat.  The verses are thought out and well performed.  The hook is simple as well but it is that simplicity that makes this track shine.  9/10

18. Hype Is In The House- A dope beat and hard hitting lyrics drive this track.  A Great hook rounds out the track.  8/10

Conclusion:  Because this is the group’s first release in twelve years it was highly anticipated. Unfortunately the Wolfpac has shown little evolution in their music, beats, delivery, and style. While some of the tracks were enjoyable the overall appeal is lost due to this fact.  Fans of Wolfpac will enjoy the album but the group will have a hard time drawing any new attention to their music with this one.
