Kali Connect has been on the grind for 5 years.  They have caught the attention of a few high profile labels and ultimately caught our attention.  Here is a little more about the group:

Started in the suburbs of Temecula California in 2009 the Kali Connect is the newest edition the west coast hip hop scene. Childhood friends and founding members the Kidd and Ernie D are a combination and blend of new school and old school hip hop. The Kidd with his street urban style rap and Ernie D with his laid back old school flow make for a perfect combination of mc’s that have created a unique sound. The KC has rocked stages from the Inland Empire to Los Angeles and all over Southern California and have played in front of sold out crowds at world renown clubs like the Viper Room and Key Club on the sunset strip in Hollywood California. They have shared the stage with major recording artist Swollen Members, Saigon, Unwritten Law, KottonMouth Kings and rocked club Les Deux in front of Timbaland at his record release party for After Shock II back in 2009. The KC’s first major album was released in 2012 and featured collaboration’s from underground legend “Mad Child” from the Canadian hip hop group swollen members and Johnny Richter and Daddy X from the KottonMouth Kings and also Killa C.  Kali Connects second major album “Dream Chasin” was independently released in March of 2013. Working with some of the underground’s heavy hitters and major producers the Kali Connect  will defiantly catch the eye and ear of the industry proving not only that the KC has the talent but also that they are connected in underground scene.

Track by track review and rating

1.  Good Times:  This track has a complex beat with good bass.  The hook is easy to catch onto.  The verses are well performed and recorded but leave the listener wanting more substance.  6/10

2.  Do My Thang:  A dope hard rock style beat leads this track.  The verses and hook are very well done.  This track easily should have led the album off.  9/10

3.  Wake N Bake:  The levels of the vocals during the hook are drowned out by the complex beat.  The beat levels out during the verses and allows them to shine.  The track is about what you would expect from the title.  7/10

4.  Hustlin:  Another dope beat!  The verses and hook work to have the listeners head bobbing.  9/10

5.  Used To It:  The track starts with a very nice mellow backing.  The track has a very positive message.  A nice track to cruise to.  7/10

6.  Rydaz:  This track has a hard hitting beat.  The hook is done well.  The first verse is good but nothing really stands out and that is a little disappointing.  The second verse has more of an impact.  6/10

7.  Worth My Time:  Another chill track that works while cruising.  A good beat and nice verses make this very enjoyable.  The hook has some reverb on it that works but not as well as the listener would hope.  7/10

8.  Yes Sir:  This beat is hella easy to get down to.  The verses compliment it well and the hook is well done.  8/10

9.  Last Stop:  A unique beat here.  The hook is well done and easy to sing along with.  The verses are nice and add a lot to the track.  9/10

10.  Never Lose Hope:  Auto tune strikes again in the intro.  The hook has it as well but it blends in much better.  A good track.  7/10

11.  Stranger:  The lyrics flow very well with this beat.  The beat has a slight guitar in it that works as well.  The hook is a little off key but that does not take too much away from the track as a whole.  7/10

12.  Money Won’t Fold:  Very mainstream track all about how much cash they have.  The beat is dope and the verses are well done.  The lyrical content is not very original. A guilty pleasure for a fan of mainstream rap.   7/10

13.  Think About It:  A great piano back this track.  Another chill track.  As a whole it seems a little disjointed but not by much.  The hook is good.  7/10

14.  You Don’t Know:  The beat makes it easy for the listener to get into this track.  A decent hook.  7/10

15.  This Addiction:  Another good blend of piano and beat.  The verses are performed well.  The hook is easy to catch onto.  A nice track overall.  7/10

16.  The Getaway:  This is one of the best beats on an album full of dope beats.  The sound of the track will have definite crossover appeal.  8/10

17.  Dream Chasin:  The title track of the album. A good beat but one of the simpler beats on the album.  A good hook and verses make this work.  7/10

Conclusion:  With the Cali Rap scene it is very hard to stand out and be noticed, yet Kali Connect accomplish this feat.  This is definitely an album you can cruise and listen to.  This album will definitely appeal to mainstream Hip Hop/Rap fans as well as Underground fans of groups like the Kottonmouth Kings and Swollen Members.  The beats on this album are some of the best fans will hear.  This album is recommended for fans of both genres.
