Don’t let the name fool ya lo’s and lette’s. The Toy Dolls are no poppy style band. These rough and rugged punks from England have been screaming “Oi!” and causing circle pits of destruction since 1979! I have alot of connections in this business and I talked to a friend and I mentioned I was interested in reviewing a CD from The Toy Dolls after hearing them just a few years ago for the first time. So here it is fam! Straight from the breeding ground of Punk itself. I present to you The Toy Dolls. A little breif history of The Toy Dolls. They formed in 1979 in Sunderland, England originally as a 4 peice band later changed to just a trio. Over the last 33 years the band has had 14 different drummers and 12 different bassists.

The Album After The Last One follows their last album “Our Last Album?” and it is produced by the only member of The Toy Dolls to remain from the original lineup. Lead Vocalist and Guitarist Micheal “Olga” Algar. Olga’s vocals almost reminds me of the lead singer from Rush with his voice. His guitar skills however is impressive. The album has it’s ups and downs. More up’s than downs. I’m impressed with how this band has decided to stay in touch and keep with the times of the modern punk sound and continue to make a mark for themselves afterall these years. The song “Don’t Drive Yer Car Up Draycott Avenue” is an example. It has a feel of a mix between Pinhead Gunpowder and Rancid. It’s also sung by drummer Duncan “The Amazing Mr. Duncan” Redmonds. The band also keeps to the comedic roots of their music with fun little songs like “Dirty Doreen”. The song is about some old lady name Doreen who even at 84 years old is still a sick obscene oversexed perverted freak! Good lord I’m glad I don’t know any old lady like that. “Decca’s Drinking Dilemma” starts off like a regular drinking song. Than from the bass melody of it gives it more of a “Skate Punk” feel to the whole melody. The lyrics are about a drunk named Decca but but the sound just makes me wanna drop 100 pounds and get back on my board to shred! The intro and outro is almost the same. It’s got a rockabilly/blues rock sound “OlgaMetal” they called it I believe…. Yep! It’s a great jam session feel with a great guitar solo so all those ninjas reading this. We got some new tabs for ya’s to learn!

All in all. This is a nice CD for those ether a big fan of rock or just someone who’s into oddball music in general. If you’re into oddball music than The Toy Dolls are for you (ICP you might wanna take some notes here. That one type of band your looking for that won’t take off if a CD flops? Yeah this is that band to sign to psychopathic or hatchet house!). The Toy Dolls can still rock even after all this time while keeping true to their roots (They’re the only other punk band besides The Ramones that kept making punk albums after the rest went to new wave, metal, or techno in the mid 1980’s). The name might have people fooled but their as hardcore as well. A porn star still willing to bareback after getting the positive test results (Yeah. That Hardcore!) and at concerts still beg for Giant circle mosh pits of fans just punching the shit outta one another! I’m giving this CD a 4.9 outta 5. Why not a full 5 outta 5 you ask? Well that one’s simple. I know for a fact you ain’t gonna be able to find this CD here in the States. Believe me. I’ve been to 4 different music stores and I asked for The Toy Dolls and They all looked at me like I was stupid.. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Pz! MCL
