The Dirtball, newly acquired KMK member, has been steady on the prowl for beats and hidden words in his subconscious to deliver us this: The Nervous System. The Crook County constituent has emerged from the studio with his raptillion-like tongue slithering ripping out lyrical buckshots aimed straight for one’s ears. With steady aim and ready to rapidly release his riffs the Dirtball laces the microphone in a way that he has to own as his own; a flavor reminiscent to that of a finely aged whiskey.
As the album starts it directly corresponds with the viral video, I Came to Party which debuted on worldstarhiphop.com 2/23/2011, and you’re greeted with a strapped down Dirtball urging that the doctor quickly increase his dosage. Dosage of what you ask? An extra burst of energy packed into every beat!’ The production on this album is headed in a completely different direction than the vibe of his previous release, Crook County’ which was more laid back. This joint has an essence which would be picked up after being initiated into the Kottonmouth Kings. The pace is started off at an adrenaline pumping high and quickly kept up the project over as a whole while containing a mix of the finest West Coast beats.
With rhymes laced up with pills, mushrooms, weed, and other party accessories The Dirtball puts together a show pleasurable for any party monster found lurking around out there. However, the show gets a bit dark with the track ‘I Smell Hell’, it reminds me of the movie ‘Drag Me To Hell’ where once it gets started it drags you in before you realize what’s really going on. Then he brings back to an all too familiar avenue of his with, ‘Mushrooms’, which also has a video just as “trippy” as the song would have anyone guessing. With the cartoony depictions within the depths of the lyrics of this madman’s maniacal mind it will have you looking for where you mind has gone.
This not being The Dirtballs debut release it’s a great way to see how he has grown as an artist over the years acquiring notches and countless shows under his belt. There’s a hint of an experimental sound on ‘The Nervous System’ of a crossover into the club scene with the trance inducing ‘Overdose’ and smoothly laid down ‘Friends Past.’ Followed by a celebratory sound embrace of a young death with ‘Party Parade’ proclaiming that we all enjoy life and live it up while we can. The feature spots on here are also something to look forward to as a fan of the underground scene; Big B(Karma Bite), Daddy X(Let‘s Do It), and Johnny Richter (Spill Zone) of the SubNoize Camp and both your’s and my dead homie, Blaze (The Paper) of Psychopathic Records.
The album has some bangers and some thinkers; it’s definitely one worth checking out in some form or another. Buy it at the Suburban Noize Shop over at their website.
