What’s better than a Live CD and DVD? A Live CD and DVD with NEW FUCKING MUSIC! The Trio from Oakland return with the follow up to their first american live DVD/CD “Bullet In A Bible” with… “Awesome As Fuck”. Not a joke. That’s the title of this project. Awesome As Fuck the CD is a mix of live performances from their 2009/2010 21st Century Breakdown world tour. featuring songs performed in England, Scottland, Iriland, Canada, Austria, Australia, Germany, Japan, and the United States spanning songs from their entire catalog. They even squeezed in a few of the classic from Dookie and Insomniac such as “burnout, She, When I Come Around, Geek Stink Breath, and a nicely rare treat for everyone. Live performences of both Going to Pasalaqua from “1039/Smoothed Out/Slappy Hours” and Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? from “Kerplunk” so some Vintage flavor for that ass. We even get a live performance of “J.A.R” from the Angus soundtrack. As I mentioned. There is a new song on this motherfucker… Well new to you but for the hardcore Green Dayalo’s like myself (And those who happen to know where to get bootlegs) it’s not. It’s called “Cigarettes and Valentines” and It was supossed to be a title track for an album they were working on in 2003 before someone stole the master copy from the recording studio (this project ended up being replaced with American Idiot.) and not heard from since. The song is pretty much classic Green Day melodic wise with the touch of old school lovey lyrics with hard paced so-cal punk sounds that brought the band to the dance. It’s diffidently a good song and it’s about god damn time they made this officially public.

Now off to the DVD. The DVD was taped from 2 back to back concert nights on January 23 and 24, 2010 at the the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The DVD has just one intro of the band walking backstage with some cut scenes of fans entering but it’s pretty much a non-stop concert with no pause for an interview or questions whatsoever. The video looks like it was downgraded to DVD Quality from an HD Camera. Other than that it looks as if we’re watching a live concert via satellite from Japan. The setlist on the DVD is different from the CD. J.A.R, Going to Pasalaqua, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?, American Idiot, and Wake Me Up When September Ends were not performed. Instead we get Static Age, American Eulogy, Jesus Of Suburbia, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and their cover of The Who’s My Generation (another song from Kerplunk). It comes with a Bonus video of “Cigarettes and Valentines” recorded at their show from the Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ on August 30th, 2010. The DVD has it’s weirdness visual wise but if you like Live Music opposed from just listening to an MP3 or poppin’ in a CD. Than You’re going to like it.

I spent the painstakingly time taking the screen shots from the DVD from here on my own computer for you all to see. Did not have to but I did anyways because I felt like going the extra Mile.

Special Thanks as always to Andres, Courtney, Tony, and everybody at GreenDayAuthority.com for the references for alot of the research I did for this in advance of writing this review.
