A question that seems to be on the mind of one person, and that’s not me, but still a question to be asked. Sozay is a person just like the rest of us; someone who found himself just as fed up with what he heard on the radio like most other underground artists and decided to pick up the pen and being to write. After putting together clever phrases wrapped in auto-tune, rhymes that seem too basic to be a veteran showing there’s always room to grow, and club sounding production Sozay put together this self-titled EP to release to the listening public.

As a dude who’s trying to gain exposure on the underground scene created by the likes of ICP, KMK, and Tech N9ne; Sozay has an interesting sound that he is trying to push to the demographic; it’s very similar to anything you would hear while on the dance floor, almost the type of sound you would expect from someone like Jurassic 5 or the Black Eyed Peas. The production on the project is smooth and laid back, you can definitely hear the Californication oozing through the boom of the 808. The feeling is most prevalent on the second track ‘High Hopes’ with the piano strings clinging to the beat as the reefer smoke just emits through the speakers. The way the samples are implied to the beats is pulled off rather well only on some of the tracks the message seems like one that has been beaten into the ground over and over time and time again.

Aside from the smooth sound Sozay tries to take it back to a time of when raw hip-hop rushed and ravaged the airwaves in the early 90’s on the next: ‘One’. Taking his stand to take the proverbial torch in the rap game and putting the city of Los Angeles on his back. However on the following joint ‘So L.A.’ showing his love for his hometown it would seem he did it more harm then he did good because, in my personal opinion, the song altogether is a basic ass rap song you could turn on the radio and hear at any point, especially the more out west you find yourself in the country.

The homie Sozay has got his work cut out for him and the road is a long an treacherous one, but anyone can grow with the right influences around them; and what a better place to find inspiration than California? However this review is only my thoughts the link is right here for you to go listen and decide for yourself! Hit it up and see if it’s your cup of tea or pot of gold remember this: “Life’s a urine stain because there ain’t no pot to piss in.” -Sozay
