The group WOLFPAC has been making noise with its many lineups for the past 8 years, as one of the wicked undergrounds most visible and hardworking groups. They have toured the country with larger artists such as The Insane Clown Posse and made their name on being up close and personal with their fans, as well as with other artists trying to get into a spot similar to theirs. If you go to any show Wolfpac plays you will see the majority of the group on the floor interacting with their fans and other artists, this also carries over to their live stage show.Building this repertoire with other artists and offering any advice that they can share with up and coming artists in the genre, there was one more logical step that you could expect from the crew, “When there’s no more room in Hell Volume 1.” A wolfpac headed compilation of hardworking wicked underground artists, designed to help spread these artists to a wider fan base. When I asked Daddy Long Legs of Wolfpac why they decided to make a compilation here’s what he told me, “I saw all of this new talent budding up, but because radio, video and press show the underground no love, like they did to hardcore back in the day, I figured it would be a good thing to take the same compilation concept (a reference to the hardcore album compilations put together at his former job at a hardcore record label) and make it for the underground hip hop thing to try to help new artists, and nurture other established but growing artists to a larger audience. Hopefully to open some doors for everyone.” And so with these goals in mind, along with 10 other individuals in the Sugar Daddy Productions camp, they chose an all star roster of who’s who in the wicked underground, and released WTNMRIH volume 1. in December of 2006.

“When There’s No More Room In Hell” features a ton of familiar names to fans of the genre such as Bawston Strangla, V-Sinizter, L.U. Cipha, Q-strange, Intrinzik, Vanilla Ice, Big B and the Dirtball among others. It also features some of the more prominent up and comers in the genre such as Claas, Delusional, Lo Key and the Playaz Lounge Crew. One of the best features of the double disc album is that every track is exclusive, so for fans of the artists listed, you can not only listen to some of the best new underground you have ever heard, but also an exclusive track from your favorite artists.

Boasting 2 discs and 38 tracks, the album is jam packed with great music, some of the more memorable include Jason Porter and Intrinzik’s collaboration on Zombiestyle, in which both artists spit solid verses with the lyrical content you would only expect from the wicked underground, you can actually bathe in the gore yet nod your head to the beat at the same time. I was surprised by Ghetto Terrorist by Grave Plot featuring Killa C, maybe it was a combination of the slightly more than mediocre beat and the solid flow, but for once Killa C didn’t make me throw an album out the window. Another great contribution comes from True High Class with her track, “Ladylike.” Female rappers are another breed, the reason being they always rap about either being sexy or being slutty, however, THC actually brought out a track that was entertaining and didn’t fall into the boring old female rapper stereotypes, the mafia style beat was also dope!

Skewering the album and listening intently, there are just a ton of great songs, I wish I could mention all of them, but that would take days, some of my other favorites include Q-Strange contribution of “Slap Dat Ho” which is as funny as it is serious, Q talks about hitting women and though it is taboo topic, its actually humorous, classic horror core. Q-strange is at his best when he is pushing the boundaries, and he pushes it here like continental drift! Another must mention is Lo Keys track with the same title as the album, “When there’s No More room in Hell” this is probably one of the best tracks on the entire album. Lo Key makes his music notoriously grimey from the production to the lyrics, and he definitely brings it hardcore with this cut! This track alone is worth the price of the compilation! V Sinizter released one of the hottest songs I have ever heard come from him with “Silent Hill X” (Samuel Mix) as well.

When your trying to make a horror compilation there is one group that you can’t afford to leave out, L.U. Cipha, the legendary Pennsylvania based group have been making new fans for the genre for years, yet they usually remain quiet and don’t often do projects with other artists. Their submission,” Dark Side of Earth” really wasn’t that impressive, and I was expecting more from the Cipha crew, nothing about this song stood out or separated them from any number of artists on the compilation so it was a disappointment to hear them fizzle when everyone else brought the sizzle.

The Bottom Line: The bottom line is “When There’s No More Room In Hell Volume 1” was one of the strongest compilations to come out of the underground in years, the roster was filled like a cornucopia of great underground rappers at all levels of the game, from the high profile already successful underground sensations, the artists with promise, and the future stars. While most of the artist came with incredible heat, there was still a few artists who were just taking up space. The disc worked great as a two album project, however you can make an argument that cutting out some of the garbage such as M Theory, X Breed, and Havok to name a few, the album could have been an even more spectacular single disc compilation. For fans of the wicked underground and horror core music in general, get this album and show your support for independent artists.
