Throughout American history there have been those people who take a stand, get up, and get their word out! Pakelika is no different than the rest. For the past 15 years he’s been synonymous with the Kottonmouth Kings for his Hydro-Mechanix style when he hits the floor and the music starts playing. However, a few years back, Pak released his debut LP, Another Cult Classic. He’s hit the studio with Dave Avelar, Patrick Shelvan, and Daddy X and returned from the depths of his own mind to bring us this, The Smokin’ Word.
When first started years ago The Kottonmouth Kings had always brought Pak along for the ride on stage and in videos as someone who never spoke. The gimmick they had went with to make sure he didn’t speak was that he is the great one. That we as people couldn’t be able to comprehend the knowledge he’d drop on us. The only thing we kept hearing was that he was a sick individual and one day we would find out how sick he really was.
Pakelika’s rhyme style is definitely one of his own. From his first release it was apparent that he will musically/physically do what he wants, how he wants, when he wants. Sometimes I will admit it seems that they have put him in front of the microphone and told him to read from his journal or whatever and then build the beats around what he laid down. One thing that bothers me about it is that when he is spitting it, it’s more like spoken word poetry, not rapping on beat. Well there is a beat, it’s must be constantly floating through his mind. Deep within his rhyme schemes he talks about the corrupt government and how they perpetrate constantly playing the American public for chumps. With welfare, warfare, and constantly increasing gas prices we are on the short end of the stick for sure.
In my opinion, Pakelika is like the Corporate Avenger, just WAAAAAAY more stoney and not as full throttle, in your face, bouncing off of the walls to get his point across. My favorite track off of this album is ?Inhale to the Chief’. It’s the ushering in of Pakelika ushering in his era within the Green House, legalizing buds, cutting taxes, and making it a better state of mind and existence. My emotions on this album are mixed just because I am not that huge of a fan on his laid back, slowed down style. If you are an avid Suburban Noize collector go get this album, if you want to hear some truth go get this album, if you have twenty bucks to blow GO GET THIS ALBUM.
