Bad Religion are to Rock’s Underground, what Insane Clown Posse is to Rap’s Underground. Just like ICP, Bad Religion has been chewed up and spat out by the Major labels in the 90’s only to become much bigger than what the mainstream labels had EVER promised them! The Dissent Of Man is the band’s 15th album and 2nd album to be produced by Joe Barresi. This album also marks the first time since its formation in 1979 that a Bad Religion line-up has not changed in four consecutive studio recordings. This album does not sound like an aging rock band either. It sounds like it’s from a band who’s not only been around for 30 years, but like a very hard fast-paced record.

“The Day The Earth Stalled” starts with Greg going “DOOOOOOOOOO YOU REMEMBER WHEN?” and that’s just awesome. For a 45/46 year old, God damn he has a voice! “Only Rain” is a mix of many things. Mainly a man begging for the scientists of the world to save us from rainy days, the man being lost in the world, and nowhere is there a sign of God. “The Resist Stance” we first heard live on the “30 Years Live” free CD that came out earlier this year. That got a lot of good reaction. The studio version will give you even more of a reaction. A BIGGER one! “Won’t Somebody” was first introduced in acoustic form on the deluxe edition of their last album “New Maps Of Hell” and a harder version made its debut on “30 Years Live”. I really like this track because it’s just one of those songs to sit back to and go “hell yes” to everytime you hear it.

“The Devil In Stitches” is the lead single to this album. is a mix of a ballad and a punk rock song. It’s a concept song but in a way that will make anyone go “This I can really feel”. “Pride And The Pallor” is So-Cal Punk at its best from the sound down to the wire. Mixing some real life drama along with some hope of light. “Wrong Way Kids” is a plea to the “dying youth” of today’s youth culture. The main part is that Bad Religion sparks truth in the real life world by pointing out yet again that the kids have nobody positive to look up to. Instead, they look towards bad people and stereotypes from TV and music. “Meeting Of The Minds” is another classic BR Anthem sparking truth. Greg Graffin reminds everybody yet again about how we’re all blind to the truth. “Someone to Believe” is the anti-social anthem for 2010! This toe tapping/circle pit starter will get you right on your feet! The guitar solo on this album is just EPIC.

“Avalon” sounds sorta like a history of how the earth was made. But it’s more of a song to tell you to forget about your past and move on. “Cyanide” is another one of them many “we’re killing our mother earth” songs mixed with personal and deep depression of the world. This song also marks the 2nd time we hear a guest guitar from the Legendary Mike Campbell (The Dirty Knobs, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) who last played guest guitars with the band on the now classic “Los Angeles Is Burning”. “Turn Your Back On Me” sounds like a breakup song. But to be honest I’ll just leave that one to all of you reading this that buy or download the CD to decipher for yourselves. “Ad Hominem” is a mix of 2 things that make Bad Religion what they are best for: Anti-Religion and Anti-Bullshit Wars. Of coarse you sorta hear a plea for further help for the war in Afghanistan (which is ironic because their 2004 album was 50% filled with “fuck Bush/anti Iraq war” songs), or so we think.

“Where The Fun Is” is a story about all those “star struck” kids who run away to hollywood to only have some make it. A few become rejects or forced into a worse life, and few die from drugs. This is a topic that Bad Religion can really speak on since Hollywood is their hometown. Finally the album closes with “I Won’t Say Anything” which I’ll predict right now will be the breakout song from this album. This song is by-far my favorite on this record just because it’s just a really real track. Nuff said on that!. All in all. Even if you are not a fan of punk rock, Rock N’ Roll, or Underground/Indie music, this album is surely a must-grab for you. There’s many artists and bands who can give you what you want to hear album after album but only very-few will not pull your chain on it. This album is one that won’t pull your chain. While you’re at it, a perfect Companion piece is a copy of lead singer Greg Graffin’s book “Anarchy Evolution: Faith, Science, And Bad Religion in a World Without God”.
