On February 10,2009 the heroes of Humboldt County, CA, the team of 1Ton and Underrated have stepped back into the studio and dropped this lyrical bomb, ‘Pipe Dreams’, on the industry with just enough time to spare on the shot clock. This is their second release on Suburban Noize Records and since they dropped ‘Straight out of Humboldt’ you could say that the two have been busy to say the least. Ever since that album dropped and they started to collect more recognition on the underground as well as other sub-mainstream levels the momentum has been building up to this moment and now we’ve come to the crossroads and the album is finally released.

More than a year in the works all the tweaking and geeking has come to a abrupt halt. They’ve hopped on at least three or four various tours and doing random shows along the way they did what they had to do to get their faces and name out there even more so that when this album came out it really came out like a open palmed bitch smack across the face.

When you first hop into it with the disc spinning, off the bat they grab your attention with the intro ‘Welcome to the Movement’ letting you know exactly what you’re in store for, some head-bob get whiplash, smoke weed music. That is exactly what you get when you bump this shit. It makes you just want to pick up the sack, grab a dutch, split it, lick it, snip it, light it with a cricket, and then hit it. Over and over again. This album sounds like it’s been in the workings for more than a year, because if you follow the group it sounds like a build up of each album they’ve released since coming together. It’s got an element from each release; ‘Humboldt County High’, ‘Harvest Time’, ‘The Lost Koast Collective’, ‘Humboldt County Storms’, ‘Straight Outta Humboldt’, and now this ‘Pipe Dreams’.

It’s got featured guest spots sure, who’s album doesn’t now-a-days? Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that collaborations between artists on the indy scene, or any sene for that, is bad. They definitely slimmed the list of collabos down though. There’s ‘Stoner Bitch ft. Johnny Richter and Daddy X’, ‘Smoke the Pain Away ft. Twiztid’, ‘She Don’t Wanna Fuck With Me/Be easy (both) ft. Krizz Kaliko’, and ‘Hot Box Anthem ft. Dank Alumni.’ All of these tracks are bangers, just the right type to get the smoke session starated right and the smoke blown into the air, to get rid of all your worries and cares.

My favorite track is a close race between two different ones, like the play count is one or two away from each other. I’m talking about the tracks ‘I Gotta Problem’ and ‘Computer Love’. On ‘I Gotta Problem’ it’s every stoners realization of what they’re doing in life at some point, LOL. The hook explains it all “I gotta problem getting’ high and rollin a blunt. I think my brain gonna fry ‘cuz I been smokin too much. Everyday I tell myself I need to quit, the next day I wake up puff a blunt and forget.” It’s a straight classic to twist out to. Then you got ‘Computer Love’, this song is a perfect description of 94% of the people on facebook, myspace, or any other site that’s like those two. Underrated’s line at the end of his verse also sums that whole “scene” of computer interatcion online today; “So fuck the bar I’m headed back to my comptuer, to chat with someone fine who in time will let me do her.”

The album is pretty funny and electric. It has it’s ups and downs like most other CD’s out now, but you’ll never know if you like it or not unless you check it out. So get up, get out, and get lifted with this; Potluck’s ‘Pipe Dreams’ IN STORES NOW!
