Hed PE’s latest release, Major Pain 2 Indee Freedom: The Best of Hed PE is one of the best line ups the band could have compiled together for both the die hard fan and the new listener.

For the old “Heds,” the first three tracks bring back memories of a time before terrorism, when Hed PE were holding it down as the official underground terrorists of the industry. A dose of their first and self-titled album comes from “Firsty”, from the days of raw. Two of my favorite songs from Hed EP come from their second studio album, Broke, titled “Bartender” and “Killing Time”.

Coming from their era of extreme growth and notoriety in the underground scene and the albums Blackout and Only in Amerika titled, “Blackout””Represent”. While Blackout is a great song, “Represent” caught me always being amped up halfway through while “I let my nuts hang.”

The collection also features 4 tracks from their album, Back to Base X, their debut on the Undergrounds prominent label, Suburbannoize Records, “Sophia,” “Let’s Ride,” “Peer Pressure,” and “Novus Ordos Clitorus”. These tracks take you back to when the group was first signed to the label that offered them complete freedom along with the exposure the KMK could offer.

There are 4 tracks from their follow up, Sub Noize sophomore release, Insomnia, “Suffa,” “Comeova2nite,” “Wind Me Up.” and “Madhouse” that seem to bring the listener right back to the front row of a Hed PE show as the group became a more and more dominant force on the tour scene.

There’s also 4 tracks from the 2009 release, New World Orphans that will have the fan thinking back to being in the crowd yet again, at another Hed PE show when the group began to enlighten the crowd and try to open their mind’s eye to how the government is really bending them over its knee; “Renegade,” “Here and Now (remix),” “Stay Ready,” and “Ordo (Ab Chao).”

There’s only one new release on this CD, “No Rest For da Wicked.” The song grabs back to the band’s roots and grinds them together with some herbs from their latest releases and brought themselves to new heights. The song goes from hardcore, crazy, metal, punk, grind transitioning itself seamlessly into some psychedelic groove back into the hardcore madness.

For a greatest hits album, this one is pretty awesome. There are definitely other tracks I would have really liked to see make the cut, but maybe they’ll release a follow up collection with a couple new songs on it by the end of the year.
