When (hed)p.e. drops a CD, its so underground you’ll hit china before you find a record store that carries any of their old shit. (not literally, stick with me though) From samples and friends mixes, (hed)p.e’s, sound is just as hard-hitting and soft spoken as it is invigorating. It’s the very meaning of Websters definition of a contradiction. It’s like the Nirvana syndrome, no matter how hard they had tried to remain underground and do their own thing, (building a very devoted fan base) have gained more notoriety than previously attained with the signing to Suburban Noize Records.

Insomnia is their sophomore album on the label, but for sure it isn’t their second release. It all started back in ’95 independently, working through the years with labels like Jive and Koch (hed)p.e has found something all their own that sticks. It sticks so fuckin’ good you’ll need skin softener to alleviate some of the chaffing from your skin. It’s been a rollercoaster ride of twelve years and eight successful albums, but these guys are still going strong having just gotten off of the Strange Noize Tour with label mates; Subnoize Souljahs, KMK, (psychopathic records’) Blaze, and that red haired wonder, Tech N9ne!

If you’re like me, you really hadn’t taken the time out of your music/work/marijuana/economic consumer driven day to listen I think you should. If you’re looking for a group who’s never made the same sounds twice then hit these dudes up like that cheap trick on the corner that you and your boys hit three times after one case of Natty Lite. There are so many different sounds on Insomnia, you’re bound to find something you like within the 14 track encounter from that late night calling.

What I love so much about them is how they use a live band the whole time, not just a mixing board or disks spinning on the tables of fury. There isn’t a damn thing wrong with rap at all, but these guys are using rap combining it with actual music where all entertainment sprang. This disk if full of guitar riffs, fat spliffs, and hot chicks who look more than ready to fuck. I found the same message in a lot of the lyrics that I have heard before though, ‘Be yourself, fuck anyone else’s opinion, and that there is no normal or abnormal there’s only that gray area in between where we all reside’. It features guest spots by label mates KMK and Big B, with Tech N9ne and Roscoe throwing flava into the mixing bowl for a thirst quenching taste of invigorating music.

I like these guys and if you do too pick this cd up if you haven’t already if not FUCK OFF BIOTCH.
