Some time ago when Humboldt County’s Finest, Underrated and 1Ton, met up at DJ try-outs in Jefe’s night club the two knew they had something there that would be monumental in the underground music scene and began laying down beats and cranking out tunes. It wouldn’t be until July, 2000, that they realized that they were destined to take their act from the local club scene and hosting house parties to a nationwide performing group. After being signed to Suburban Noize Records the two hit the road with label mates The Kottonmouth Kings and never looked back.

Prior to signing to the label the two West Coast Warriors had comprised some 200 songs and three full length studio albums with guests spots from local hip-hop heads like The Mystik Journeymen, ‘Hip Hop’ to renowned California lyricists such as E-40, ‘You Ain’t That Fine.’ As they began building a buzz with the boisterous bouncing beats Potluck started getting noticed from acts from all over the nation, Tech N9ne of Strange Music, Kottonmouth Kings and Hed PE of Surburban Noize Records, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, Twiztid of Psychopathic Records and even legendary hit making The Luniz, ‘I got 5 on it.’

Once they were picked up by the Kings and signed to the label where it seemed to be a perfect fit, because Potluck and the Kottonmouth Kings lyrics are both twisted up and laced with the finest lines of toking reefer from all strains and kinds. In my personal opinion Potluck keeps it refreshingly new when compared to the Kings because there aren’t eight members to keep track of and both MC’s are lyrically gifted. They aren’t so much about raging out when indulging in getting high, but rather are laid back and want to post up with good times watching ESPN’s Sports Center or simply baking out with their ‘Hot Box Anthem.’

Since their signing the two have only progressed their profession and are only getting closer and closer to producing perfection. This album, “Greatest Hits: With My Buds”, is an installment they have pumped out for the Potluck Populous to grab up, twist a fat sack, and lay back while they unwind and pass time. The songs are all previous releases spanning over their entire career all five albums except for track 18 ‘I Ain’t Crazy’ which features Detroit sensations King Gordy and D12. Even better to add to this collection is disc two, “Pothead Music Vol.1: The Dank Alumni Experience.”

The Dank Alumni is a group of rappers from the Humboldt County area consisting of Potluck, Garth ‘Multicultural’ Vader, Pharmacist Chris, and Tax Free that came together on Potluck’s Suburban Noize Debut “Straight Outta Humboldt” on their self titled song, ‘Dank Alumni.’ They have since recorded ‘The Hotbox Anthem’ that appears on “Pipe Dreams” along with, more recently, “Pothead Music Vol.1: The Dank Alumni Experience.” The “Pothead Music Vol.1” was an EP however, which for some reason or another record stores have refused to carry, so the album was only available online or at their merch table while on tour; until now. The EP is included in this package for any Potluck fan who couldn’t get a copy in their hands.

Honestly a greatest hits album is never a bad idea, especially when you have over 6 albums worth of material to choose from, and if there are only the fans who know of the three releases from Sub. Noize this is more insight to where the duo has come from and if you pay close enough attention you can get an idea of where they are headed.
