Opening up with What We Are w/ Tech N9ne and Krizz Kaliko, 4 minutes and 20 seconds of some of Potluck’s best. Personally, this is one of my favorite Potluck cuts, but they have so many songs that I like this should be a no brainer review. Hopefully, most of you have heard the majority of this album already, or at least I would hope. If you enjoy music enough to sit through a review some asshole like myself wrote, you probably already know about these guys. Or at least you should.

Sports Junkies w/ Equipto takes sports related metaphors to a new level. I’m accustomed to the overuse of sports references in music, since I have lethargic rapper friends that you would think could appear on intervention for sportscenter. This song is still the shit, since Potluck made a concept song out of it rather than just rhyming about sports all over an entire record. Equipto kills it right off the bat. Enough said.

Stoner Bitch w/ Kottonmouth Kings is the shit because well, there they are. The best weed rappers on the west coast, all on one track. Daddy X, famous for being hit or miss on the mic, actually spits a dope verse here. Richter kills it too, then the shit is over. D-Loc must have been busy that week.

Humboldt County High w/ Al Roc Ski & Automatic comes next, taking a more chill approach. You can tell this was a record meant to smoke to, since by the time you could smoke your buzz would be settling in when this track comes on. I’m not sure who these other guys are on the track; Automatic isn’t that great, but Potluck & Al Roc Ski make up for it.

Say What U Wanna w/ Tech N9ne. Now, these guys love fucking with Tech N9ne. Why not? It is great chemistry, and it is almost certain to cross promote between fans of each of the artists. Especially when they keep coming back to do tracks. Tech’s verse is sick as fuck here, so listen up.

Mary Jane w/ The Luniz is one of my all time favorite smoking songs, no shit. When I heard this disc was dropping, I thought it might be too soon for a Potluck Greatest Hits. Now that I have it here, I’m thinking to myself how could I forget about a song like this? I haven’t heard this track in a while. UnderRated’s verse is out of this world, and 1Ton switches up the delivery to balance the track out and prove why this duo is a perfect fit. The Luniz appearing on a weed song is rare, right? You could already imagine what this sounds like. Or at least thats what you think until the last verse and you wonder why that dude even got on this track. If you don’t cop this album, at least search this one out on Youtube.

You Ain’t That Fine w/ E-40 must appear on like three Potluck albums. I remember this one from like 05 when I found out about these guys. I always loved this song, but when I found it I lived in Ohio and didn’t have a good grip on what west coast rap was really about. In retrospect, this song stands out as even better than I remember it.

Hip Hop w/ Mystik Journeymen. I don’t want to sound like a hater, but I don’t much care for this song as much as the others. Whoever Mystik Journeymen are, they must be the shit though.

Hot Box Anthem w/ Absolute on End & Garth “Culti” Vader. Thats a mouthful. This song is dope. Garth Vader is the shit, bottom line. I bet this song has big ass bass too, but I can’t tell on this setup. “Up in Humboldt County all our money grow on trees.” -1Ton

4smokazonly w/ (hed) p.e. is a unique collaboration considering Jahred is a dope rapper and he doesn’t do it often enough. Its a straight up rap song though, unline the Twiztid/(hed) p.e. Collab. No rock instruments appear anywhere on this song, and it makes me feel like more of a MCUD collaboration than anything. Still an ill song, especially Jahred’s verse.

Roll Big w/ Kottonmouth Kings is a dubby/rock track. Not really my cup of tea, but this is what makes them such a versatile mass appealing underground band. What I just realized is why does D-Loc never have a part in Potluck/ KMK collabs?

No Disrespect w/ Ishi Dude is another, way more dubby cut. I can vibe to this one though. Such a feel good beat, and the lyrics aren’t so much about bud here, but about real shit. The hook is awesome, and the dude gets the outro as well. This is another one to peep especially if you dig dubby rap tracks.

What’s Your Purpose w/ DVS might be a collab they made with a shoe. Regardless, I like it a lot. Its a traditional hip hop sound, and this DVS character rips it up. 1Ton sounds way different than usual on this song. Definitely a cut to check out, since it may surprise you.

Just Like U w/ James Boy is a familiar song, as I’ve heard this one a million times. UnderRated hates rapping slow, since this album is almost over and he is still going as hard as the first track. I love 1Ton’s verse in this song. The last verse, by James Boy is on the fast tip again, and once again proves that the chemistry these guys have with collaborators is worth mentioning.

Revolution w/ Chali 2na, I don’t like this song really, but I respect anybody who gets Chali 2na on their record. This song is alright, it just has a corny hook and is just not something I could play out fast.

Smoke the Pain Away w/ Twiztid is another one of my favorite Potluck cuts. UnderRated slows it down here but the fact that they can keep their lyrics fresh while still touching on the same subject matter a other songs is the shit. Not to mention Twiztid rarely collaborates with anyone, so when you have a track with these guys, you know it will be good without question. Madrox murders it and then passes the mic to 1Ton before Monoxide gets the chance to completely fucking slaughter this song. He took this track out back and put it out of it’s misery. This one is a juggalo favorite in my book.

Funeral w/ Twiztid is another juggalo banger. Potluck does this one out on tour, and everytime I hope the T is coming out to make their appearance. They never do (at least at shows I’ve seen) but regardless, this song is rightfully placed after the other track with Twiztid, as these songs are where the album slows down a bit. Then guess what? A track with D12 and King Gordy ensues….

I Ain’t Crazy w/ D12 & King Gordy. I’m used to Eminem not doing shit with D12 anymore, so don’t even ask next time. D12 sounds exactly like they did ten years ago, using the same samples they have been using forever. King Gordy on the hook is a dope fit, and the lyrics are catchy as shit. 1Ton steps his game up on this cut and shares a verse with Bizarre. With a combined weight of holy shit, this verse packs a punch. The erratic badass hook gets you everytime, and UnderRated comes to the plate and knocks it out of the park. The hook wraps up this greatest hits compilation, at least until you check out that bonus disc AKA Dank Alumni. You can find a review of that somewhere around here, anyway.

All in all, this was a good fucking disc. Go get you a copy over at the sub noize store because they are throwing in that second disc. If you already have that disc, give it to a friend who needs a copy or doesn’t know about Potluck at all.
