In the wake and the clearing of the newest joints dropped by Suburban Noize Records what could one do? Touring season is under way for you to catch you favorite acts on the road and the newest additions to the label are busy working on a debut of their own. This would leave any fan in the city that the tour had just left or those still waiting, wanting something to quench their thirst of weed-laced rhymes and times about a past so fine.

So now here is this; Subnoize Souljaz: Blast From the Past. Not only is it a new album released by the Soulaz, not only is it their third studio album, but this is also not only an album for the fans, but I think, an album for the artists themselves. This installment to the collection hidden in the vault of SNR is a remix, remake, cover, or whatever you call it done by the artists of the label; paying homage to the groups or MC’s that got them kick-started back in the day. They’re taking it back to when hip-hop/rap was still looking to form itself,.. when no one voice was really heard but noise was being made.

Even in this genre there are many of us who come from so many vast and different areas, musically along with geographically. To me this album is just a way for everyone to see where their favorite rappers draw their influences, who they listen(ed) to when it all went down and they were pushed to pick up the pad and pen and begin to write.

Each person(s) on SubNoize who has already been established themselves has one song. One could wonder, how many songs are there then? Because it would seem SNR has this gnack for signing 1000 and 1 artists or groups and seems too hard to keep up at times. Well for a simple question there is a simpler answer, 14. 14 newly remixed, re-mastered, and redone classics are here on this disc for you to spin. Everybody from the KMK, Judge D, Big B, DGAF, Dirtball, Saint Dog, Chucky Chuck, Potluck, Sendog, and Dogboy are all on this blazing joint of a remake.

So all in all to take it back to a time when you were too young to know what these original songs were laying down or you just want to take it back to when you first got into hip-hop way back when, I suggest you pick this up and get your REMINISING ON!
