Linkin Park. The 2nd most original rock band in the history of rock and roll and the only band to have the greatest Billboard Modern Rock Charting record in history have made their return to the world with “A Thousand Suns”. The Process started in October 2008 when Mike Shinoda revealed on his blog that he, Phoenix and Mr. Hahn had begun working on two song ideas at Hahn’s home. Originally set for a summer 2009 release, it was pushed back due to Vocalist Chester Bennington’s side-project: “Dead By Sunrise”. Much like “Minutes to Midnight” Mike Shinoda once again collaborated with Legendary Producer Rick Ruban (who produced albums for Slayer, Run DMC, Johnny Cash, and Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros just to name a few.) to produce “A Thousand Suns”.

Now with this album, their sound has changed once again, which is why I’m a Linkin Park fan. They always change it up with each record. This record is a mix of Techno, New Wave, and Acid Rap yes it’s that damn awesome dude. You’ve got all the crazy influences you’d see in the most bizarre of album including a synthesizer of all things. You don’t get to hear Mike Shinoda sing that often on a Linkin Park Record (MTM was the only time) but “Burning In The Skies” starts off with him singing, which is really cool. Throughout this record it shows that Chester’s singing just gets better and better!

“When They Come For Me” makes you think you’re listening to an Esham record from 1999 again. The song lashes out at the mainstream for trying to change everything he does. Not many know this but Warner Brothers didn’t want Mike to rap at all when they signed him. Of course you’re gonna hear a fuck you song every now and than outta that one.

“Waiting For The End” is my favorite track from this album. It’s a perfect mix of rap and rock, but on another level. Mike’s raps with Chester’s Singing once again mashing on a song is just the perfect blend. It’s like a chocolate pizza. It’s that fuckin’ awesome! Another track with a New Wave / Metal feel is “Blackout”. Here’s the part that will make your head do a exorcist head twist… Chester rapping?! YES IT’S TRUE! From rapping to the signature screams that I just love Chester for and Mr. Haun’s turn tableness added to synths and demonic guitars just….damn I think I need a Kleenex. The song ends with Mike singing again. This is an awesome record.

“Wretches And Kings” reminds me of songs from Jedi Mind Tricks and Ill Bill. It covers topics of “don’t let the machines take over”…a skynet style song. This is Linkin Park at it’s best. Mixing techno, metal, and hip hop together forming it like vol-tron. “Indescent” shows Mike and Chester singing together. Its sound is mostly piano and drums mixed with a lil dancing and claps. “The Catalyst” was the first thing anyone heard from this album. It was the taste that this album as going to be 100% different from anything they’ve ever done. I leave everyone reading this to judge this track for yourself. The last song, “The Messenger” is how alot of rock albums are ending now…Acoustically. It’s a ballad. Chester closes this album with a great message for anyone who’s pretty much down on their luck. This album had alot of interludes between most of the tracks. The most noted interlude is “Wisdom, Justice, And Love” which is 98 seconds of a speech from a man who wanted nothing more but peace between all men and women no matter the race, gender, sexuality, or what they do for a living. And that man is none other than the late Rev Martin Luther King, Jr. Yea I’ll gladly suggest this to anyone who wants to hear something really different than anything out there. Trust me. Don’t sleep on this record…. PERIOD!
