Back like an asthmatic crack attack, I(whipstick), am here to bring you the news of something that is popping off in the underground that needs to be recognized. Something malicious and malevolent has been brewing. Its La Coka Nostra here to pick up the flag and raise the middle finger in the FTI movement. It’s a movement of sorts and not one to be taken lightly, consisting of the Boston Strangler(Slaine), The Cult Leader(Ill Bill), and the House of Pain(Everlast, Danny Boy, and DJ Lethal) La Coka Nostra is an underground sensation quickly picking up the heat and igniting the match wherever they go. It’s a group formed of five individuals who when gathered together form a fist of MC’s who bludgeon the side of your dome in your ears until you can’t take it no more, and then you realize you want more and more.

Having formed under strict regulations, to produce the raw/hardcore essence of hip-hop that has seemed to have been lost over the years of watered down mainstream play; the group has definitely delivered everything they vowed they would here on their debut release ‘A Brand You Can Trust.’ However, this not only a debut album, but a debut on a new record label, Suburban Noize Records, founded by underground fixture, The Kottonmouth Kings. Since their conception little was known about the group other than the members it consisted of. It was rumored that nothing would come out unless they were all in the studio together laying it down all in the same room, to get that energy or vibe that is only heard/felt when records are made that way, not when the artists mail each other their verses back and forth.

Obviously they weren’t kidding around, they came together and put out a handful of tracks; ‘Fuck Tony Montana’, ‘That’s Coke’, ‘I’m an American’ and a few others. They set the trap and laid the bait by leaking these tracks. It did more than work as the devoted followings of these individual artists came together under the banner of La Coka and showed their support to the group through internet downloads and ticket/merch sales on the ‘Bring the Noize Tour’ with label mates the KMK. Now slated for release on July 14, 2009 LCN has been preparing its fans and the rest of the media world for it’s arrival for the past few months and all I can say is ‘..I hope you’re ready!’

Starting the album off with hard driven sounds declaring their statement and movement with guitar riffs and a honed rage the group rips it open with a head but to your chin with the tracks ‘Bloody Sunday’ and ‘Get You By.’ They move through the ranks and the trenches of the underground with the greatest of ease dropping knowledge on these kids this a group of lyrical MC’s who aim to please with tracks like ‘Bang Bang’, ‘Soldier Story’, ‘Gun In Ya Mouth’, ‘Nuclear Medicinemen’, and ‘Cousin of Death.’

This album was a project that was put mainly together by the LCN, yet there were a few helping hands in the mix to drop this hot shit. On the tracks lending their verbal abilities are the likes of Snoop Dogg, Big Left, Cypress Hill, Sick Jacken, Bun B, Q-Unique, and Immortal Technique. Along side with DJ Lethal on the 1’s and 2’s the production team consisted of group members Ill Bill and Everlast, along with Sicknature, The Alchemist, Cynic, and Q-unique. And what else could stop this group then sudden death? Nothing! Not one damned thing! Get this album, it’s a strong suggestion listen carefully.
