You know, I don’t expect everyone to like the film. In fact, I’ve pretty staunchly defended the “entertainment is subjective” point. Seen the movie? Think it’s shit? Cool! I disagree, but I can’t dictate to you what it is you think is funny. Besides, as I’ve mentioned before (and as @neverthrive can confirm) I’m actually pretty contrary, when it comes to pop culture. Nothing will put me off of something quite like hearing about how great it is all the goddamn time.

All I want is for fanboys to own their goddamn nostalgia.

We all have nostalgia. We all fall victim to it. Own your shit.

“This movie I’ve never seen is awful and an insult to the original, let me use box office numbers to tell you how bad it TOTALLY IS, oh and also all the shit thay came out when I was a kid was GREAT and all the shit that came out in the past decade sucks donkey balls,” is pretty much the thesis statement for nostalgia.

Yeah, I got hella salty. But you’re behaving like a goddamn fanboy, @Cheshyr, at least own it.

It’s all good man. You are right I have and I won’t act like I haven’t but I am also trying to be better if that makes you feel angry enough to attack my opinion that is your right as a human being.

I am not going to stop voicing my opinion.  Neither am I going to trash yours. I refuse to be that guy anymore.

EDIT: Wanted to add my accident was last year as I told you so technically you never heard from me til way after I had head trauma. This does not excuse my behavior at all just wanted to clarify you NEVER saw any post from me from a sane standpoint. I was just recently told the damage was that significant it doesn’t mean the damage just happened all the medical and legal stuff takes a while homie. I thought I made that clear before. The damage was done last year at the time of my accident.

As far as I can gather, Ghostbusters won’t be released on disc until November, and that makes me sad.

Eeeeh. I don’t really want a shitty cam copy, y’know?

Considering most cinemas are digital now, I’d have expected more DVD-quality leaks for movies in general, but I guess most people don’t want to risk their jobs so that a bunch of ungrateful nerds on the internet can watch a movie for free, lol.

I downloaded Ghostbusters. Would have given them my money if it was playing around here. I’ll probably end up owning the bluray one way or another. I enjoyed it, the humor was usually on point, less so towards the end, but still an acceptable amount of laughs. I liked all the members of the team and they all seemed to have equal roles, even the non-scientist. And Chris Hemsworth was also great as Kevin. I’m still on the fence about the villain, but I think I’m warming up to him more.

It wasn’t a great film, but I enjoyed it.

SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH IT WAS AMAZING**.

** …I might be bias.

No, but for real, I really did like the movie. It wasn’t cinematic gold, but how many fims are? I get what you’re saying about Rowan, he really wasn’t impressive, but I’d argue he was a good villain, in the sense that he was a relatable everyman. He was a socially inept, creepy loser who went a little Columbine, except instead of a school shooting he tried to kill the world with ghosts???

IDK he was basically me at 13.

Erin’s one-liner after she popped the Stay Puft man fell flat but the broader joke of her saving them with the pocket knife was entertaining, even if it wasn’t LOL-worthy. My experience was that most of the jokes which failed me were the ones that either drug on too long (like Patty exorcising Abby with the slaps) or were multi-faceted (i.e. physical + verbal) generally with one aspect of the joke working, and another part failing, usually for a net neutral experience.

Really, I think a big redeeming factor for me was the characters. Even when the humor flopped I still found the film by and large enjoyable, because I liked and was invested in the characters. Probably if I didn’t like the characters as much, I wouldn’t have enjoyed the movie to the degree I did; it’s sort of like how your friend’s shitty jokes are less cringe-inducing than a stranger’s shitty jokes, because you like them.

Plus I’m basically still riding the high of my all-time favorite actor (Sigourney Weaver) having a babely cameo (STEM MILF) tied to my favorite character (Holtzmann). I mean, I’ll freely admit it: I’m the fanchild type. Good fanservice redeems a lot of sins.

Speaking of fanservice, the post-credit scene (which I still haven’t seen, but know the content of) makes me nervous. I’d love a sequel, and wouldn’t mind them touching upon the plot of the original movie in theory, but I’d hate to see them revisit it verbatim, partially because I’d like to see them do their own thing, and partially because I didn’t think the plot of the original Ghostbusters was that good. I’d hope that if they did revisit it, it’d be in name only; take Zuul and Vinz Clortho and Gozer and really reinvent them. The whole ‘sumerian god’ angle was really…meh.

If we did see Gozer again, I’d welcome the return of the Confuser vibe, tho.

Having seen the OG (original Ghostbusters) now, I can say that I didn’t really care for Gozer. It wasn’t really intimidating, or funny, it was just… hokey.

At least Rowan was actually a ghost, I guess.

What I wouldn’t mind seeing would be something like the same basic hierarchy, with Gozer as the boss and Zuul and Vinz Clortho as the lackies, but instead of monster dogs and sumerian gods**, they’re ghosts. They could even maintain the whole “compliment” vibe of the original gatekeeper/keymaster thing, with lesser ghosts Zuul and Vinz having to work together to free Gozer from…something? IDK. Gozer could be trapped in something. And they have to let ’em out. For… reasons.

** As far as I have garnered from a cursory traipse through Google, neither Gozer nor Zuul nor Vinz Clortho are actual entities in Sumerian mythology, but rather Zuul, at the very least, was ganked from the equally fictional Necronomicon of Evil Dead fame.

Honestly, I’d rather not see them revisit the original’s plot at all, and the post credit scene may very well just be more fanservice that would have no actual bearing on a potential sequel, but I am… distrustful… of Hollywood.

I, too, would rather see something new in the sequel than have them revisit an old plot.

I liked that ghosts being summoned –with tech similar to the Ghostbusters’ own– was completely intentional and plot relevant, rather than the ghosts they bust just being kind of incidental. And also that the villain was, in the end, a ghost and not a weird Eastern European model/deity.

Yeah, I don’t think they ever actually explained why the ghosts suddenly started happening in the original. They did explain that the dude who built the high rise was a cultist that worshipped Gozer, and therefor Gozer happened, but to my knowledge I don’t think the ghosts were explained???

Also it was weird that it started out with ghosts and ended with sumerian gods.

I liked that Rowan used Abby et al.’s technology and science against them. There’s this YT channel I watch a lot, SciShow (the one with fucking John Green’s brother) and a point that has come up in a few videos when discussing things like labotomization or nitrogen fixing is that science is neither good nor bad, but rather neutral; it’s what’s done with the science that is either good or bad.

Rowan and the ‘busters using the exact same technology touched on that duality, and I liked it.

Plenty of movies pick up popularity after bombing in the box office. I doubt this movie will, but I’m sure it can’t be any worse than the SLC Punk sequal. That movie was fucking garbage. Disgrace to the original movie, disgrace to punk rock and a disgrace to my city. It was a fucking Nickelodeon movie with some drugs and swearing.

I had no idea there was a sequel to SLC Punk, that’s easily one of my top 5 movies. Thanks for the heads up on it sucking, I feel that if I had seen it in a store or something I would have probably wasted my money on it.
