I’m going camping in a couple of weeks with all my potential gathering gear on me and nothing else. It took forever to find enough space in the middle of nowhere that I could be isolated and not have to worry about being shot OR attacked by manbearpigs but I finally did it. Trying to pick out the hottest weekend I can within the time I have so I can get an idea of how practical some of the stuff is, if any of it is too cumbersome or what else I’ll need. Also plan on hiking as much as possible while I’m there.

Basically, I’m so goddamned excited for the gathering that I’m getting excited about doing test runs on my old camping gear and the new stuff I’ve got from the recommendations on here. Does anyone else do anything like that before the gathering? Like, test runs and shit? I don’t mean camping because I know some Juggalos can appreciate that shit but camping JUST to see how your gear will hold up.

NO!!! its a gathering tradition to come epicly unprepared your first year…only to be taken care of by more experienced ninjas which you go ahead and reciprocate in subsequent years.  IDK if this is your first it sounds like it…only bring one pair of socks and some condoms…the rest will take care of itself

On second thought….try to prepare no matter what you try to do you will forget something and the first point will work itself out.  The last thing we need is people intentionally fucking up…there will be plenty of idiots to go around.

Sounds like my first two years. They were huge fails for me preparation wise.

I went to the ’06 Gathering and was way under prepared then the junkie friend I took with me (bad call on my part) spent all cash we had and sold a couple of my shirts. Didn’t see him again the whole weekend. It was the shit going but the lack of money and change of clothes have resulted in me trying my ass of to make a solid plan of attack this year. Haven’t had the funds till now to get to one again and I’m trying to avoid the unpreparedness as much as possible. That said, I do recognize that any plan I have mapped out will immediately get abandoned as soon as I get there but in the mean time it’s fun to pretend. Something to pass the time till July at the very least.

SHAGGY 2 DOPE’S ACTUAL DREADLOCKS FROM 2004

I know you’re like…what the fuck? Yes it’s true…these three dreadlocks were actually cut from Shaggy 2 Dope’s head during the Shangri-La/Hell’s Pit era and consist of his real hair (no weave here). They were then for some reason put in a Ziploc bag by Shaggy and kept in one of his closets for all these years. Just think, with technology advances in today’s science one day you might even be able to utilize the DNA found in these strands to actually clone replicas of the man himself! So don’t sleep on this one of a kind item that is truly bizarre, slightly disturbing and amazing at the same time.

That’s fucking disgusting! I just don’t understand collectors that like this kind of stuff. It’s like the Catholic church keeping relics (body parts of saints). But then again, I don’t understand collectors at all. I used to buy comic books and open them and read them then give them to friends that wanted to read them too. I understand that people can make money from stuff like this by selling to other collectors but it’s a closed incestuous circuit. I just can’t do it on principle, fuck the money. I buy merch and stuff, but I wear it and use it.

Reading about the psychology of collectors…

People use their collections to create a private comfort zone that they can control. By arranging and disarranging their collections they can regain the sense of control over their lives.

Some collectors are nostalgic. They are so much attached to the past because they believe that it was much better than their present. Because those people want to keep these good memories they turn into collectors. By doing so they unconsciously believe that they have protected the important memory and prevented it from being taken away from them.

In both cases the person is distracting himself from the real life challenges by pursuing simpler challenges in his own private world.

Like I said earlier, some may do it for the money investment, but that is just preying on the people who fall into the collector pathology. No matter how I look at it, I cannot figure out a good reason for it.

this is not a joke.  wish i could put up a picture.

if some sicko is interested, ill happily sell it for 25% of whatever shaggys’ go for, bein that he is roughly four times more interesting than i am.

THAT’s what was missing from the infomercial! I just remembered!

What the hell is “The Fun House” that is shown on the GOTJ map where Bizarro World used to be last year?!

There was NO mention as to what that’s supposed to be. Is it a fun house? Is it where they’re stickin’ Busey (cuz it’s around the same place as he was last year)? Bounce houses? What?!

I guess I’ll have to wait until the next Juggalo Show to either see if Jumpsteady brings it up (as they said it was gonna be the “everything Gathering” episode) or if I gotta spam the chat to get the question answered…

The idea for the infomercial was cool. It was one of the first videos I’ve watched with Sugar Slam that didn’t make me cringe. From the list they gave, there’s not a lot of artists I want to check out. Lo Key, ICP, Tech, and Danny K is about it. Maybe Twista and Rittz if there’s nothing else going on. Which is cool because it just free’s me up to go check everything else out.

Ah-ha!

I think I may have figured out what the Fun House/tent is supposed to be for.

Out of all the events that might require a structure that was mentioned, the one that isn’t a stage or taking place near one/outside…

They mentioned the movie showings were going to be in an air conditioned tent (not that it was hot enough last year to need such athing)… bbefore the infomercial said that, I figured it would be like the picture on the site and it’d be one of those inflatable screen they use other places for picnic/park showing.

That’s MY theory at least (but I’d still wanna play in a bounce house).

Are there usually bounce houses?

They’ve had moon bounce castles at other gatherings. The few times I walked by them it was just naked people jumping around.

The movies are in the autograph tent. I hoping for a mirror maze or one of those fun houses from the carinvals where you would go through random obstacles like spinning floors and shit. That would be fun

Yeah, it’d be cool in a kitschy kinda way but those particular ones (the ones that end in the hamster wheel thing) are usually depressingly empty. Inside they look more like a Double Dare course (cuz no one bothered to put up the tarp walls) than a fun house maze…

I like the carny ones that begin with a two story mirror maze (you go up a spiral staircase) where everyone can see you from outside trying to get through it and then you go INTO the thing with halls that have pressure plates and dark passages, maybe a slide ending in a ball crawl and then a barrel roll/hamster wheel thing.

I always wondered how those things get put up. I always had the idea that they were like pop-up campers with some carny turning a crank to unfold them (and then attach stuff).
