YOUNG WICKED MADE ICP SOUND BETTER THAN EVER…
NOW WE GETTIN’ THE ‘WTF’ SOUND..
MISSING LINK BEST ALBUM SINCE MILENKO
Lay off that raw ether, dude.
While I do like “Found” much more than the usual Jugg, as a whole those two albums were really very lacking. “Lost” in particular.
You’re entitled to your own opinion here. But nah, mayn.
I must give Wicked props for “Flamethrower”. To not would be to be willfully ignorant. That track is dope.

” I SEE THE DEVIL”
ARE THE BEST ICP TRACKS TO DATE!
Holy shit you’re certifiable.
Back to that ancient Mike E. Clark VS Everybody Else on music production debate….
What the other homie said about Shangri-La is true: you may not love the sound, but it truly is a great production. There are tons of things that you can only hear with different kinds of audio… remember when it was released and Them Clown Gents recommended people listen to it with headphones upon first play? I did that. It was quite an experience.
Even though MEC said that he couldnt even listen to Shangri-La, it speaks for itself.
“The Wraith: Shangri-La debuted at number 15 on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Independent Albums chart.[17] In 2003, the surround sound mix was named “Most Adventurous Mix” at the second annual Surround Music Awards.[6] In The Great Rock Discography, Martin Charles Strong gave the album four out of ten stars.[16] The album received two stars out of five in The New Rolling Stone Album Guide.[8]
In September 2003, Insane Clown Posse was voted the worst band of any musical genre in Blender, with The Wraith: Shangri-La named as the group’s worst album.[18] Despite describing Insane Clown Posse as “imbecilic white rappers”, the magazine complimented the album for its “charming, good-natured idiocy.”[19]
The fucking album won an Adventurous Mix award. You cant say that it at least isnt trying hard.
Lots of yall never owned the actual CD. Inside it are descriptions in the liner notes about how many people were involved in the overall tweaking of the music. It is fascinating to people like me that enjoy the stories of how songs are made.
Some may call that simply “overproduced”. Well, that’s the point. It is an album about an American Heaven: it must be grand, full of surprises and wonderment. Hell’s Pit, as I’ve mentioned too many times, was minimal on purpose for the opposite reasons. It is about Hades.
Anyway, before the tirade of disagreeing muhfuckas appears, quick FUN question?
The Remix albums are cool and all…. but if you had to choose a producer to go back in time to redo both Wraiths, who would you choose? Dont say MEC.
For Hell’s Pit I’d say RZA. Minimalist mastermind.
For Shangri-La…. geez, I’ll have to think about that one.
P.S. – Shangri-La is produced so good that it caused Violent J to get angry at Mike P for it. He said that ever since that Adventurous Mix Award came about, “Mike P acts like he’s Prince or something” were the words. That was always funny to me.
P.P.S – Klux, I see you updated your rant. I agree that “You Should Know” is quite good. “Vomit” and “I See the Devil”, agreed, arent too shabby. I also didnt like the “Confederate Flag” song a lot (weird beat, silly lyrics)… but you calling them ignorant for shitting on that piece of shit flag, eh? Typical fuckface bigot. There is no argument there, I’m so tired of that line. The flag is garbage, plain and simple.

I’m a little bit of an audio engineer myself and can say I’ve always admired how well produced and mixed Shangri-La is. It may not be your cup of tea stylistically for ICP, but the nerdy audio stuff itself is excellent. Mike P did an awesome job. And that’s the thing, I do like Mike P. Not as much as MEC, but, he does come up with some crazy shit. R U Wicked is a great example outside of Shangri-La, and then I think “Carousel” is an insanely underrated song he produced.
I still bring up Seven a lot because he has done some cool stuff, but I’m mostly impressed with “Phantom” the song. That style right there is right on the money with what ICP should be doing.
I’ve said before that Young Wicked is a talented guy and really did come through on stuff like “Lost At The Carnival”, “Flamethrower”, “The Monster”, and “The Dream” for sure. But the vast majority of his material was unoriginal and sounded the same quite a lot, and then his singing on most of the hooks was basically the same thing over and over and was annoying to me. So, he doesn’t suck, I just always felt like ICP was forcing it with him.

I agree with this all, I believe. Props.
That “Phantom Xtra Spooky” album is so damned fun. Truth is, I was so drunk and high that I do not remember ordering it and even owning it. I found it and the MML outtakes album in my last garage where I lived before June. I truly do not remember ordering it. I know that sounds like some Violent J “I was in a trance from the Carnival demons and dont recall making ‘Confessions'” kind of story, but it’s true. In my case it was good old fashioned drug and alcohol abuse.
Once again, Wicked is competent and sometimes innovative. But usually not. He is at the very bottom tier of Clowny, Insane Posse production.
Kuma is the shit. Seven, as well.

Sexiest question I’ve read this year.
Shangri-La: 2004/5-Kanye West, Marco Polo or Dilla (I would like to see it heavily sample based)
Hells Pit: El-P, DJ Eclipse or Mighty Mi

Word. Though I guess I’m not too sure what all songs Kuma has produced, what are some examples there? I do know he produced “Red Moon Howl”, which I honestly fucking love. I wish ICP did some more of that sound.

Oh dope man, those beats are all the fuckin bomb. Villainous especially is another that’s right where ICP should be. Well all of those songs, but especially that. I feel like he brings a bit of a Midnight Syndicate vibe to the beats, which makes the blood rush into my wang for sure.

The Mud, Water, Air and Blood album is so fucking clean sounding. Crisp backing. Excellent snares and drum work. Ambience is focused and encompassing. Bravo to that last ever Dark Lotus album. Every rapper at their best, or solid enough. No drunken Shaggy 2 Dope garble. Nothing sounds rushed or goofy like Black Rain. Great and well executed concepts. Surprises. Emotions. Beauty. I love goddamned Dark Lotus.
Together with Opaque Brotherhood, those are two of the best examples of Psychopathic Records music. Tales From the Lotus Pod is classic, as is much of Black Rain, too… but I feel like they represent the overall vibe better on those last two albums.
As albums, those latter two are the best. But Tales contains some of the funner tracks that play well live. Gimme Dat Blood!
