Together with Opaque Brotherhood, those are two of the best examples of Psychopathic Records music. Tales From the Lotus Pod is classic, as is much of Black Rain, too… but I feel like they represent the overall vibe better on those last two albums.
Black Rain is really solid. It might actually be my favorite Lotus record. The only one I really skip is “That’s Me.” The record does have alcoholic Shaggy as you mentioned, but it also has Blaze at his best and ABK sounding like they didn’t splice him in there in garage band. And Twiztid was good in it as usual. The album has a good balance of different types of songs. It’s got comedy, domestic violence, murder, necrophilia, wicked shit, and “The Walls” which is my favorite Lotus song.

The Walls is great, yes.
I like That’s Me.

Didn’t Mike P get sued by Midnight Syndicate for just straight jacking shit from them on Hell’s Pit?
That was actually Fritz The Cat who got sued for the copy/paste-esque sampling of Midnight Syndicate on the Hell’s Pit intro, not Mike P.
I thought Mike P’s production on Hell’s Pit was near impeccable, personally. However, having RZA on production in his prime would’ve been absolutely devastating, fully enhancing the raw/ominous vibe of the album with his masterful boom bap minimalism.
Another equal caliber masterful minimalist boom bap producer in the same raw/ominous vein, is DJ Krush. He’d compliment ICP/Lotus perfectly, imo.

I think black rain is the strongest lotus album for J.
I also have a special affinity for Black Rain because it dropped when I was just getting into Psychopathic.
Agreed about J. If I’m not mistaken, that was around his weed-smoking creativity burst out phase. I loved it. Wizard of the Hood, great guest spots on ABK and Esham joints… overall he was, as he put it, SHININ.
On “That’s Me”… “Jump Off”… “Kaboom”… yeah he was rocking it. Shaggy was at his worst IMO.
Trust me, I’m a Shaggy fan. His solo albums are all on Psychopathics top 20 ever. Maybe top 10 for FTFO. But he was raunchy wack in this era.

I think ABK was worse than Shaggy on Black Rain. That was Shaggy’s weakest period and I don’t actually dislike any of that album but I think ABK had the worst verses. Lots of forced rhymes from him. The “Level/Shovel” rhyme on My 1st Time always makes me cringe.
Still a solid album though and a peak for the label as a whole.

MEC is ICP, period.Hells pit and it’s counter part were complete trash in terms of an overall album experience. Sure you had a couple track’s that are decent, but as far as an front to back listening experience, garbage. The sequencing, Mixing, Mastering ect, where sub-par and no where near the standards set by albums that came before and after it. So when I hear MEC’s involved with them on a project or a song, I know what kind of quality to expect from their proven track record when working together. He produces a song, IE tells J and Shaggy how to spit it, how the choruses should go, what vocal ranges to record at ect..
These other fools just submit beats and record them, like you think Kuma or Str8 jacket have the balls to tell J or Shaggs, ‘No, that’s no working, re do it’?
TMML, Specifically Found, they tried their hardest to emulate that carnival sound, but as time told us, it was a flop. B side songs like ‘The Zipper’ just have a certain authenticity to them that no other producer can recreate for them.
So yea, MEC is kind of an key component in the success of ICP and Psychopathic. The Mighty Death Pop surpassed all expectations, largely in part from Mike, how did TMML do in his absence? I don’t understand why they can’t make the guy an equal and invest in him to keep him around. Its like that old saying, You get what you pay for.
TMML part three coming up.
Fucking idiots.
Well said sir…I’ve never read a better summary of the MEC/ICP situation. I 100% agree.
So does anyone know who actually produced WTF!?

That’s funny you mention the “level/shovel” rhyme. J actually does something similar on “Flamethrower” where he rhymes rebel with shovel basically by pronouncing shovel as “shevel”. That’s always bothered me, otherwise I really like that song. I never understand why rappers just make up rhymes when they can just pick other words or write a different line.
In general, I kind of hate ABK. I tried to get on board with him when he was new to the label but ultimately couldn’t do it. I just mentioned how much I love “The Walls” but I’ve always wished it didn’t start off with ABK going “I CAN’T THEEE YOUUU!!!” due to his speech impediment. Weird choice.

So I gave this track another shot and my main beef with this track is the mixing, it’s hard to make out exactly what they are saying over the top of all the noises…
Hopefully they clean it up a bit for the album. Whoever is producing this needs to listen back to it on some basic monitor speakers with the volume down to see if you can still hear what they are saying.
I’m a professionally trained audio producer for radio and TV and this is a good practice for any of you making your own tracks at home.

J has the tracks bluetoothed directly to his hearing aids.

Either Kuma or most likely Str8jacket. We damn sure know it isn’t the god, MEC.
MEC was supposedly working on FFF with the gang and nem’, hence the push back to accommodate his schedule, but seeing as he’s performing PDM at twizzler shows now, expect anything he crafted for the album to be deleted or remixed like YW’s shit on FTFOMF.
I swear, J should call his next book, ‘How to shoot your self in the foot constantly’.
I had high hopes for FFF too man, Damn.
