Alright so I’ve heard the album through a few times now. While there are some definite good things to say about the album, I still stand by my initial thought that they went way too overboard on the dirty south Paul Wall/Three 6 Mafia sound. Sounds more like a Killjoy Club album than an ICP album, much less a Joker’s Card. I actually laughed out loud when I thought about the fact that some of the album is kind of like the crunk part of “Radio Stars” but they are actually serious this time.If I had to put my finger on something that is the real “issue” with this album, it’s that it just does not feel like a Joker’s Card at all. On each of the first 6 Joker’s Cards, there really seemed to be an entity and a mythological background and story to the Joker Card himself. Aside from the intro of the album, there’s basically no reference to what the hell The Marvelous Missing Link really is, and the presence just isn’t felt. BPB and MDP had a similar issue, but to a way lesser extent than MML. Who knows, maybe those of us who aren’t totally feeling the album may have had an easier time digesting it if it wasn’t labeled as a Joker’s Card and was a Bizaar/Bizzar type of situation? I hope this whole paragraph has made some sort of sense.
Again though, definitely not all negative things to say. I respect any band/musician/rapper/whatever that has a long career and isn’t afraid to broaden their horizons. “Confederate Flag” and “Flamethrower” are total bangers in my opinion. I take it that the very, very end of “I See The Devil” is a glimpse into “Found”. That should be interesting to see where they take that.
P.S. The only thing that really made me laugh on this album is Shaggy’s line from “Confederate Flag” which goes “Stick your fuckin flag pole right up your fag hole” hahah, gold Jerry, gold.
I think people who are saying “It doesn’t feel like a joker’s card” are really saying it doesn’t have the nostalgic feel, which makes sense. It’s entirely too new. Try to make peace with the fact that it’s a new joker’s card deck and you’ll enjoy it a lot more. Look back on it in 10 years and you’ll be like “wow, that was such a cool time.” I hated Shangri La when it dropped. I loved Hell’s Pit. I recently put all of the joker’s cards on my phone as I waited for this new album to come out and it was Shangri La i was listening to the most.
BPB and MDP both have a much more mythological feel than any of the original joker’s cards, IMO. I feel like Lost is setting up for Found. I noticed a lot of commonalities between Carnival of Carnage and Hell’s Pit. I expect a lot of the story is going to be on the second album, and in the liner notes, which is true for carnival of carnage too. Aside from the intro, we don’t really hear ANYTHING about the carnival of carnage. We see examples of the violence and so forth and we get it’s meaning in various ways but they’re interpreted, not stated. Taste is a dope song because of how it relates to the booklet and intro and the tracks that came before it.
I don’t like downloading ICP albums because the booklet is as much a part of the experience but I couldn’t wait on this album. I had to check it out and I am waiting for my copy to come. I think it’s fantastic. I don’t hear anything that sounds like the crunk shit off radio stars. I don’t hear anything that sounds like three six mafia or killjoy club. I think it sounds entirely original and I think that’s fantastic.
The intro is a bit too heavy on the “find faith” think but I think that’s what the missing link is. the link is what ties you to other people. If it isn’t faith in a god (and I love that they include non christian gods in their list in How), then find it in something. What links you to the rest of humanity? for me, as an atheist, I think Art is the closest thing I have to a religion (outside of my other religion but that’s confusing, I’m a Unitarian Universalist which is a really hard to explain religion that doesn’t require belief in the supernatural). For me , Art is my link. And so is the family. And so is robotripping. And so is the wicked shit.
I think the reason we don’t have much about the link in lost is because it is lost. Because we don’t understand what it is. Found, I would suspect, would have the opposite approach. I think on found, you’re going to get the answers to the questions asked in How (my favorite song off the album btw). I can’t wait to write about the full double album as one single unit.

Did they diss Twiztid? What if they started like a friendly beef sort of like a challenge to each other to try harder. Seems like that’s what Twiztid is doing.
I didn’t hear any disses the first few listens but the song The Neighbors are Fighting does seem to really hit what you’re saying in the last line of your post. Some lyrics and stuff below.
In the Neighbors are Fighting, there are samples that say stuff like “I’m gonna kill you,” and “I challenge you to a fight to see who is better” and something from a ninja movie with “you two clowns think you’re funny, well now I’ll give you something to laugh about” and then there’s fighting. There’s also a lot of “I hear you boys got beef, point me to your chief” and “prepare for the beat down from the street clown”.

Pretty neat picture for those out there I came across. Not sure if everyone has seen it or not, but if you have, then here it is again
I don’t think that’s a pre-order copy as I don’t se any kinda 3D goin’ on with that cover. I’m thinking it’s gotta be a standard version of some sort.

i have listened a few times to it over the past few days and i still stand by assertion that really is a great album, alot of the parts of the album have gotten stuck in my head, which is a good thing, its memorable
also does anyone know if legz is out of the fold or what?
Legz isn’t on this album but I don’t think he’s completely done fucking with them…probably was working on the next Purple Gang album or some shit…hopefully he’s on Found but I thought Young Wicked did a pretty good job with the background singing and whatnot

I respect your opinion and agree with some of what you said, but I will comment on a couple of things. For me, the idea that it “doesn’t feel like a Joker’s Card” has nothing to do with the fact that it doesn’t have a nostalgic feel. It would be impossible to have a nostalgic feel the first time I heard the first set of Joker’s Cards, so, not sure what you’re going with there. I still am falling back on the fact that there’s just barely any presence of an “entity” or an actual story/lesson like the others try to have. I do agree with you that COC was the only one from the first deck that didn’t have much of that feel either, that one was more there to set the stage for everything.
However, I must admit I am pretty baffled about how you aren’t able to hear the Killjoy Club/Paul Wall/Three 6 Mafia sound in the bulk of TML. The beats, particularly the bass and drums, are exactly that. ICP have never been known for their pure rap skills and I’ve always appreciated their story telling, humor, and overall total left turn from other rappers out there. But still, they seem to lack a lot of real rap skills on TML when they try to buy-in to the dirty south sound. Instead of rap flows, it’s more choppy if that makes sense. One of the biggest examples is “The Neighbors Are Fighting”, which is probably the lamest song.
I will also maintain that I do respect that ICP came with a new sound for them and continue to try new things this far into their career. I am 100% positive that there will be plenty of Juggalos loving this shit because the style of TML will be more up their alley than my own. For context, my favorite ICP albums are the “holy trinity” of The Riddle Box, The Great Milenko, and The Amazing Jeckel Brothers.

The real theory is Legz & MEC were tired of being fucked around and bounced
with MEC who knows but I doubt that’s the case with Legz especially since they just let him put out his own record…it wasn’t well received by a lot of fans but that’s not their fault necessarily…MEC produced House of Wax (some of it anyways idk how many songs officially) so I don’t think it’s that they were probably working on this around the same time as KJC and even maybe some of the Lotus album and were just in the zone to do something more towards that style…they also mentioned MEC was busy touring with Kid Rock and stuff

I listened to it again. Definitely like the album alot. It had to be listened to a couple times to get use to it but it grew on me alot. The choruses seem lazy but once it grows on you, it all makes perfect sense why they did the choruses like that. I’d give this album a 7/10. I got vibes from the first set on this cd a couple times alot of the tracks give me the hells pit vibe tho. (which isn’t a bad thing) I think more than anything this is what ICP has been missing (j’s voice) being like this set the tone for the album.
