Some Salt Lake City Juggalos and Juggalettes might be a little aggravated about this post. It looks like some SLC Juggalos were the catalyst to ALL Juggalos being labeled as a gang. According to two articles posted yesterday, some drug busts in March 2011 are what spurred a 14 month investigation into Juggalos, criminal activities to which they have been involved in, and the music behind it. Here’s an excerpt from one article:
An unnamed agent in the Salt Lake City FBI’s Safe Streets/Gang Unit wrote to his or her superior on March 15, 2011 that “Juggalo crimes” in several states included “drug sales, possession and child endangerment,” which fit a pattern of “crimes typically seen by gangs or gang members.”
“Insane Clown Posse can’t get its music on the radio,” the agent explained, “but claims to have 1 million devoted fans who call themselves ‘Juggalos’ or ‘Juggalettes,’ and sometimes paint their faces to look like wicked clowns. Some continue the dress by carrying small axes, like the cartoon hatchet man associated with the band.” Among the “recurrent themes” of the Insane Clown Posse’s music: “murder, rape and and suicide.”
It still really infuriates me that they always throw “rape” into the mix as far as song content descriptions go. They don’t ever say that ICP doesn’t condone rape in ANY of their music, but just rap about the subject. Fuckers. Anyways, the article also goes on to talk about ICP / Psychopathic suing the FBI over the disclosure of what caused their fans to be labeled as a gang, and much more! Surprisingly, as much as most media can’t stand ICP or Juggalos, they seem to be on our side on this case. Check the articles out here:
