This past weekend, the 21st Annual HempFest went down in Seattle, WA. For those who don’t know about it, it’s the world’s largest cannabis rally, and is a completely volunteer-ran event. A local Seattle paper called The Stranger covered the event extensively, and made SEVERAL mentions of Juggalos throughout their latest publication. 2 Juggalos even made the cover of the paper! They have a couple of mock games inside…one called Hempfest Bingo, and the other is called the Juggalo Hug. “Just what is a ‘Juggalo Hug'”, you ask? Here’s the description they provided:
THE JUGGALO HUG
Speed and stamina are key attributes for competitors in the Juggalo Hug, a quick and exhilarating team sport. originally called “shiv the snitch” the event first appeared in the Berlin 1936 Games. In modern times, stoned pairs approach a Juggalo or Juggalette. One flashes a wicked clown sign while the other offers a traditional Juggalo greeting like “you, ninja, whoop whoop!” The first stoner then initiates a hug while the teammate stays vigilant for shivs and other handcrafted clown weapons. If the hug is completed without blood loss or clownshed (i.e., becoming caked in makeup or sweat), a gold medal and a celebratory Faygo are awarded.
So yes, there is a little bit of friendly ribbing inside the paper, but all in all, nothing but positive. Here are a few other scans from there:
