i suggested body count to J on monday, he said that he would love it, but they wouldnt draw enough people in,and their price is 75,000

That’s crazy disappointing. That’s gotta be a fuck you price cuz i know they did some smaller fests around here. I right icem t was cool with them though.

Body Count played at Knotfest last year in San Bernardino…

Yes and it was fucking bad ass. First time I saw them.

Which reminds me, I’ll toss GWAR into the mix as well.

What’s up with the Hatchet Herald trying to start a social media campaign to get Die Antwoord to play the Gathering?  Dunno why that would be necessary unless they’re trying to get DA to take a big discount, which makes me think it ain’t gonna happen.

Seeing as this is a “SPECULATION” thread, I got some shit to spout (when I get an unworked chance to do so) but in the meantime, in an attempt to be PROACTIVE (and not the poopy kind)…

What if we (the Faygoluver collective) were to draft some kind of collective “love letter” to Die Antwoord TOGETHER?!?

I only got a few minutes but to go off on the SPECULATIVE…

I think they may ALMOST have them locked up on a price point but WE need to sway them on an ARTISTIC level!!! Let them know that Juggalos are the “American” representation of everything they call “Zef” and that no EDM festival that also loves them can equal the ARTISTIC validation of playing in front of the Juggalos!!!

How many times do we see on tv about some “artist” getting booked for a fuckin’ wedding or bat mitzvah cuz a price was met? We need to impress upon Die Antwoord that THIS is NOT that kind of request.

As far as I’m concerned, DA playing a Gathering would be a total “proof of concept” that would rebuke EVERY interviewer that ever asked them if their “style” was their own expression or just some “art project” they chose to pursue.

THAT is how I think the Carnival should be presented to them… not just “begging”.

interesting idea, kinda thing weve talked about doin before, for other artists.  dont think it should be a ‘love letter’ as much as a ‘heres why you need to play the gathering’ letter.  so to speak.

how would it work?  someone just types it up, and puts a bunch of forum peoples names under it?

whaddya spose die antwoord charges for a bat mitzvah…?

[edit]  @drfreshness – dont know exactly what it was, but ‘social media’ had somethin to do with cypress hill playin the gathering.  like, they saw bunches of juggalo askin em about the gathering, or some shit.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

I mean it’s all speculation but I really doubt it.  I bet DA themselves don’t really know much about any of this, they may even know very little about ICP and Juggalos to begin with and it’s all happening through their management.  PSY’s line has been that the big obstacle has been that DA aren’t based in the states but that’s bullshit- a round trip plane ticket from South Africa costs less than $1k, sure there’s also crew and equipment but ultimately it’s chump change in the grand scheme of things compared to what they would get paid to play.  It seems like there are a lot of acts who will play the Gathering at a discount for the experience and/or the exposure, and PSY is looking for that hook to reel in DA.  But DA is in a totally different commercial orbit, and unless they know about Juggalos and the Gathering and really want to do it for personal reasons it doesn’t make sense for them to do the Gathering for less than they normally charge for festival dates.

Again this all total speculation and I could be completely wrong, but that’s how it looks to me.

Heh, I was about to come say the same thing.

For all WE know, The Gathering and ICP may not even be on their RADAR. While The Gathering is CERTAINLY no “gig at a fair” it certainly pales compared to the kind of shit they do in Europe (they ‘festival’ fuckin’ HARD over there) or even something here like Ultra or whatever…

But! Butt… I really gotta think that they have at LEAST *heard of ICP as even Die Antwoord has its haters and there are plenty of comments on their vids decrying them as “South African juggalos” that everyone else thinks is so fresh about them. Separately, they’ve both appeared in the same magazines… But they’re from another friggin’ continent so I’m just speculatin’.

Which is why I think the call for a social plea was made. Bands don’t really always do shit out of the kindness of their hearts unless it’s something they already wanna do. Decisions get made based on whether or not it BENEFITS them in some way shape or form (usually financially and there’s nothing wrong with that expectation). SO… if Psychopathic were actually able to pony up on the financial side of things, they’d probably also need to impress upon them just what an appearance by them could potentially mean to THEM. On some personal artistic tip that would validate THAT side seeing as they are supposed to be such “uber musicain/artists” (including DJ Hi-Tek).

…And I guess a “collective letter” wouldn’t be as impactful as a whole slew of individual requests. I would just hope that the majority are WELL WRITTEN and not just the usual kinda shit people give ICP like “When are you comin’ to [insert town name here]?! You gotta play!”.

could be more impactful, if someone took time with it, presented it the right way.

and if a slew of ninjas signed off on it.  three or four wont have much weight.

Funny you mention DA, I found this video by little big the other day and DA popped up on YouTube along with it. Shit is funny!

Violent J has built a Hulk Hogan shrine in his mansion.

If Hogan was available he’d be an awesome host.

Dude just won 110 million in his lawsuit against Gawker, he probably won’t be doing many bookings at this point.

Gawker’s reportedly appealing the ruling, so maybe Hulk will show up & host a game of “Is It Racist?” Here’s a sample question:
