i wont argue at all that “Black Rain” is dope as hell like “black rain”, “thats me”,”kaboom” are instant classics. “These walls” is that dark lotus magic working again, madrox and J had a great melody for that song. but that song “for the lotus” god i hate that beat! i cant get into it at all. i just think tales from the lotus was a complete thought from start 2 finish, like the all beats and lyrics just flow with no stopping or skipping. black rain felt more like the whole label kickin some flows together and they all did great, even abk was dope, some of his best work is on that cd. but as far as a dark lotus album, you could have put “thats me” or “kaboom” on an icp or a twiztid cd and i wouldnt know the difference lol. tales from the lotus is ruthless and when the mastermind Violent J says its too morbid, too dark then u know thats the ultimate wicked shit, that guy has been writing and creating wicked music for years like “mr johnsons head”, etc

If they did use real negative magick grimoires I’m kinda curious which one they used. I definately feel it when I listen to it. J did say he was in a real dark place while recording.

Do you ever listen to Dark Lotus’ “Tale from the Lotus Pod” CD?
No. Before I hooked up with them, I never listened to the horrorcore. I never do and I never have since. When we were doing the album, to me it was something unique because I had never heard it. When I did my part, I felt like I brought what I needed to bring with that thing and I moved on past it. I don’t feel too comfortable rapping or singing or anything about (stuff) that’s not real. I’m way more into writing real experience (stuff) about what’s happening in my own life or things that I’ve been through. I ain’t never chopped nobody’s head off. If someone pushed me, I could. But I can’t rap about that. It doesn’t feel good to me. The Dark Lotus (album) was mad fun, but I couldn’t just keep doing that. I couldn’t do more than one album like that or base my career on it. That’s just not me.Read more: http://www.newstimes.com/news/…..z2HzxJPRcK
Marz says he never heard horrorcore before, but he did an intro for Q-Strange way before Lotus.

If they really did use black magic while recording the album then yes, that definitely explains why J was at a low point in life. Im just pissed that J didnt get more into details about this in his book that makes me question if this is really true or not. because I would have loved to read more about this.

They may have pretended to use black magic while recording but there is no such thing that has actual effects in reality. Not one aspect of “magic” has ever held up to real scientific inquiry. I’m not talking about the type of science you see of TV shows where they don’t even follow scientific process, I’m talking about double blind experiments that eliminate bias.

First off Id like to say I also doubt that fucked with any real black magic but just cause “science” cant or hasn’t proven something doesn’t make it not real. Technically speaking evolution cant be proven using the “scientific method”… that doesn’t mean its not real. As a wise man once said speaking of scientists… “Y’all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed”. truer words have never been spoken, lol.

The Theory of Evolution is a theory, but guess what? When scientists use the word theory, it has a different meaning to normal everyday use. It all comes down to the multiple meanings of the word theory.
In everyday use, theory means a guess or a hunch, something that maybe needs proof. In science, a theory is not a guess, not a hunch. It’s a well-substantiated, well-supported, well-documented explanation for our observations. It ties together all the facts about something, providing an explanation that fits all the observations and can be used to make predictions. In science, theory is the ultimate goal, the explanation. It’s as close to proven as anything in science can be.
Some people think that in science, you have a theory, and once it’s proven, it becomes a law. That’s not how it works. In science, we collect facts, or observations, we use laws to describe them, and a theory to explain them. You don’t promote a theory to a law by proving it. A theory never becomes a law.
In fact, if there was a hierarchy of science, theories would be higher than laws. There is nothing higher, or better, than a theory. Laws describe things, theories explain them. An example will help you to understand this. There’s a law of gravity, which is the description of gravity. It basically says that if you let go of something it’ll fall. It doesn’t say why. Then there’s the theory of gravity, which is an attempt to explain why. Actually, Newton’s Theory of Gravity did a pretty good job, but Einstein’s Theory of Relativity does a better job of explaining it. These explanations are called theories, and will always be theories. They can’t be changed into laws, because laws are different things. Laws describe, and theories explain.
Just because it’s called a theory of gravity, doesn’t mean that it’s just a guess. It’s been tested. All our observations are supported by it, as well as its predictions that we’ve tested. Also, gravity is real! You can observe it for yourself. Just because it’s real doesn’t mean that the explanation is a law. The explanation, in scientific terms, is called a theory.
Evolution is the same. There’s the fact of evolution. Evolution (genetic change over generations) happens, just like gravity does. The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection is our best explanation for the fact of evolution. It has been tested and scrutinised for over 150 years, and is supported by all the relevant observations.
In terms of Magic, science cannot prove it because it is not observable. Science uses observation of the world and if something has no observable effect in the world then it cannot be proven by science. So, Yes, Magic may exist, but with no effects, it really does nothing. If it had real world effects then it could be observed in which case someone, out of the thousands that have tried, would have by now claimed the James Randi Million Dollar Prize.

Absolute gibberish. First of all, please quote your sources, don’t just copy and paste. Second of all, lets not get started about evolution… once you dig deep down into the facts for yourself and not just copy and paste from notjustatheory.com… you realize the lack of science behind it and that it really is simply a theory… you know like the normal everyday use of the word. but really… who gives a shit.

Ah, you’re right, I didn’t mean to do that. You are the second to inform me that I didn’t put the blockquote around it. The other actually called me and let me know. *embarrassed* .
Anyway, I still see Evolution as a fact and Evolution by Natural Selection as a theory. The gradual change of genetic material over time is proven in the observation of mitochondrial DNA over the centuries. The theory is just a possible explanation of why this change occurs. But the change does occur. The data completely supports this. It does not state the theory is correct, just that the data shows that evolution has, does, and is occurring.

@Psyral Infection Micro-evolution is without a doubt proven by science… no know is debating that. Macro-evolution… plain and simple is a theory. well maybe not plain and simple but its majorly lacking in hard concrete evidence when looking at the data.

so what, the ‘theory’ of magic powers is now equally valid?
utter gibberish. to coin a phrase.
its not majorly lacking, you just did not look at the data.
do something magical. verifiably. until then, magic stays fiction.
all youre comin with here is:
1 – ‘i dont believe in evolution’
2 – ‘just because something is made up, doesnt mean it isnt real’
and each point excludes the other.
awfully paranoid, arent you?

Well you are right I never “looked” at the data… I spent more/less 6 months studying it on my free time. not evolution strictly but that was one of the main topics I was looking over. (yes… my interests were quite different back in the day… sue me, lol) But that was a while ago… and I just dont care that much anymore to debate it. One of the biggest thing I noticed back then was when watching these Creationist vs evolution debates… no matter what evidence is presented the other side doesnt really care what facts are presented and wont ever change their opinion. So with that in mind, who really gives a shit what other peoples theories are. It looks like we agree to disagree… and that is completely fine. but please… quit making statements like you know me, lol.

apologies, but it was a patently easy call.
i havent said squat about where i stand on creation v evolution. and it is irrelevant, because creation v evolution, no matter how you dissect it or which side you favor, is one hell of a distance from ‘magic is real’.
for the record, yes, i find creationism childish; but that doesnt mean i attack it all the time.
anyway, if you wanna talk of hard concrete evidence, do a magic trick for randi, and get paid. then, there will be evidence.

Exactly my thoughts. Kudos on knowing about the JREF.
I really don’t want to jump in on the evolution thing BUT I will say; if you’re using terms like “micro-evolution” and “macro-evolution”, I question your sources because those are the same damned thing but on a different scale.
Tales from the Lotus Pod was fucking incredible. Marz version of course. Like Psyral said, they might have pretended to use black magic on it. The Placebo Effect is a real thing. Combine those two and you have the makings of a very dark album. Not in a cursed way but if I think I’ve summoned a demon to put in my music or whatever the fuck, there’s a high chance I’m going to write some very crazy shit and go to a darker place than I normally would (Fuck holes in my yard and grow children from soil). Same deal. They MIGHT have all thought they were using a mystic power, which in turn, made them write better. The cover to Black Rain was great. Very uncomfortable feel to it but that’s about the best thing I can say for that album. The Opaque Brotherhood was solid though. It wasn’t quite as good as Tales but it had the same listen with the lights off feel to me, minus a few tracks.
