Just started listening to it today to and from work and am about finished with chapter 3. It’s really cool to be hearing this book. So I of course bought the book right when it came out and read it. That was 2003. I then let a friend of mine borrow as she was just starting to really get into ICP and was going into super juggalo mode and flipped out when I let her borrow the book. I then sort of forgot about it and ended up moving away. She even offered to mail it to me years back and I was like nah it’s ok I’ll get it somehow. Really I was just being nice as we were younger and didn’t have much money and I didn’t want to ask her to pay for shipping a fucking big ass book. Anyway, I hit her up recently and asked about it. Turns out she let another one of our friends borrow it who also got real into ICP over the years and I asked this other friend if she could send it to me. She said yes but then said she’s “emotionally attached” to it, made drawings and notes in it, all this stuff. So she offered to buy a new one and have it sent to me and I’m like sweet! So I actually just got the book in the mail within the last week. My wife has been getting into ICP/Twiztid over the last year and started reading the book. So it’s cool that it seems to have gone right along with all these people getting into the music, including my wife! So she’s reading it and I’m listening to it and since it’s been so long, it really does feel pretty awesome to have it on audio with J himself reading it. Sorry for the rambling post here but, I almost understand the “emotional attachment” thing now.
damn that’s crazy
I got attached to my first copy as well and bought another copy just to let people borrow (which has turned out to be awesome because so many ninjas have actually read it thanks to my extra copy that I keep circulating around- sorry to psy for possibly losing them money lol but these have mainly been younger ninjas who probably wouldn’t have bought it anyways) and I’ve also bought another copy to mail out of state to a homie I met at a gathering who hadn’t read it yet
I’ve just started listening to the audiobook and have realized that it was really dumb of me not to buy an extra copy of that at the gathering to let ninjas borrow because I definitely don’t want to risk losing it…but I bet someone will put it on youtube before too long anyways

that is awesome that people are indeed enjoying this audiobook of Behind The Paint. I wish it came over to Audible.com, because that way, one can grab it as their free audiobook when they do sign up for a trial at Audible, but only seen it at Hatchet Gear so far, but I do hope it comes to other online stores too. I guess we will have to wait and see

I still have not gotten through one listen and I’d say I’ve averaged about 1/2hr a day since GOTJ ended.
I firmly committed myself to not starting to listen unless I could finish a whole chapter (however long but mostly at least an hour).
His stories are so coiled up that I felt like if I jumped out in the middle of a thought, I’d end up having to rewind a bit just to get back into the swing of the tale he was telling.

Anybody listen to any cool podcasts they would recommend? Preferably something sci-fi or horror but I’d be interested in hearing about whatever you dig.If I get your meaning, I would recommend to ANYone that likes this kind of thing, check out the BBC Radio’s “official” reading/show of the entire “Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” series. If you’ve read the books it’s almost word-for-word, and if you’ve done neither, it’s that much more awesome and hilarious. The voice of the narrator/”The Book” alone is great to hear.
As far as fun Podcasts… I recommend “Doug Loves Movies” and “Getting Doug With High” (ICP was said to have supposed to have been on the Getting Doug With High live stream but because of Shaggy’s probation mix-up a while back, it got scrubbed).
Hey thanks man. I have read some of the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy book and plan to pick up and read the rest at some point. I have the “ultimate collection” or whatever where it’s a bunch of stories in one book and I read the first one. Cool stuff, I’ll definitely keep this in mind to listen to.
And yes I am also looking forward to listening to some comedy podcasts and already have Doug Benson’s shit on my list. I’m a huge fan of the band 311, and I think their bass player has been on his podcast before.

I should’ve used this as an excuse to take a road trip. Nothing like sitting in the parking lot at work, trying to finish a chapter while your coworkers walk past. Three more chapters left and I already want to restart the whole thing over.

Did you get it at the gathering or did you get it off Hatchetgear cause I ain’t trustin spending $30 on an item that has no image and no description with a vague title and risk not getting it at all.
Image is posted on hatchetgear. Same thing I picked up at the Gathering.

I lovedddd the audiobook. I really cannot wait for the next book Violent J releases to continue the story to where he left off. I am going to listen to all the Jokers cards in order and the listen to the book again. It was that good. The one thing I wish he went more into detail was on the albums.
I realize he says the stuff “just comes to them” from the dark carnival but how interesting would it be to hear about them writing the albums like The Ringmaster and RiddleBox. I would be fascinated to hear more info directly related to the albums and songs. He really didn’t talk about the music at all. Anyway loved it and hope he follows through on what he said on the bonus chapter and does do another book picking up the story where he left off.

So I spent pretty much all weekend listening to this, and holy shit! It was great. Of course I bought the book back in ’02 and read it prolly 10 times. To be honest, Behind the Paint was and currently is thee only book I’ve ever read cover to cover.
Anyway, like I said I was fuckin amazing. The bonus chapter has me MAD hype for book #2! When listening to this and really hearing what J has to say about most of us bitching about waiting them to sound “oldschool” like they did back in ’94-’95. I know I received a good….shut the fuck up! haha And really took it in, and just flat out accepted that these dudes are still fuckin here like 26 years later still droppin’ bombs. I mean, of course I’ve always known that and mad appreciated it….it was just really good to hear it again from the Duke.
That one part had my dying laughing when he said that the Zug Island album didn’t even make the Fart Chart! Some parts of the audio book is hilarious! I had no idea that Zug Island was completely written by J and was supposed to be recorded/preformed by J! That whole thing was idea/his everything. That came as a surprise. Very well done by J.
