It's up to you which words you wanna use. When I took African American Lit, we had to use the word and a lot of people were really uncomfortable with it. It's where I came to terms with my own preference regarding slurs. Anybody can say any slur they want, at any time and in any context, but anybody can become upset about it and you should consider who is listening.

I prefer not to use the words in environments where I don't know who is looking or listening. It doesn't hurt me to type the alternative and I would rather avoid causing any unnecessary harm if possible. I have some pretty random and uncommon triggers for my mental health issues, so I do my best to avoid more common ones.

Maybe consider taking your own 'don't be an asshole' advice and quit dictating language of others. To the best of my knowledge the pursuit of happiness does not translate to an entitlement to not be offended. Bands beyond Psychopathic (The Slits, Cum Dumpster, Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel, etc.) demonstrate how words & art can be challenging. Beats listening to Taylor Swift and staring at a beige wall for eternity. I'll take my chances with the word wielders.

I think you're over reacting. Just because people call you out on your words doesn't mean you aren't free to use them. For example, I wish ICP didn't use the f slur. When they asked what people thought of the new album I said so, when I've met them, I've said so. They don't have to listen to me but I do hope that eventually they will.

You won't be ticketed for using slurs. You won't be arrested for it. You won't be murdered for it. At worst, you'll be called a name in return. Boo fucking hoo. According to you, that's no big deal so it shouldn't matter. Right?

meanwhile the people the slurs are used against will be beaten, raped, murdered, and arrested for simply being who they are but yeah it's totally the same.

You act like people saying "hey could you not call me names please" is the same as violence. Non minorities are subjected to crimes, yeah, but not because of their status as a majority. As a white person, nobody is gonna come at me because I'm white. As a man, nobody is gonna come at me because I'm a man. As a straight person, nobody is gonna come at me because I'm straight. As a cis person, nobody is gonna come at me because I'm cis. You deserve to be treated like an asshole if you're going to go around using hurtful words for the sake of 'free speech".

It's not rules. There are no consequences to you saying a slur or being a bigot. In fact, it's protected by law. The KKK can go around saying the n slur all day and nobody can do shit about it. You're perfectly ALLOWED to be a bigot and go around saying awful shit. But I'm allowed to point out that it's awful. heres my issue (i dont ususally push it, because well i dont tell people how they should use language or live in their lives). 'the n word' nigger, IS NOT even close to being a slur on par with tranny. when youve had close to a thousand years of fearing for your life for being transgender you can call them apples and apples.

words hurt because you let them. maybe its because im aussie and we are a hard people, but words are just words. if you let them hurt you then they do.
