I'll actually be doing a corporate video on April 22-23. I got paid $18k in advance. It was a nice payday. $18k for 2 days' work. That's what you make in a year, right? Enjoy
I wouldn't trade that for the 11 years seniority at the job I have within the Teamsters union, with the full pension, benefits, and wage I earn.
You don't quit the kinda job I have.
And you have to make a corporate music video?
That shit sounds like it sucks balls.

Eeek! Unions!
I'm anti-union. Luckily I live in a "right-to-work" state where unions have zero power.
Nothing against you, @miklo-velka , just stating my political opinions... unsolicited.

Every job I ever had fucked me over and paid me next to nothing, until I got into a union gig, just my own personal experience.

Only if it comes with limited addition bandanas or something fresh of that sort. Has to have different album covers to choose from (all with scruff's real face you see here on the forums of course. Not the one he shows up to the Gathering with). A guest feature from @randy-gall is a must. And, and this is a big AND... It must come signed only on the cellophane so I'm forced to purchase at least two copies.
If the above conditions are met I will buy a copy.

Im split on unions. On one hand they took care of my Great Grandfathers family after he got black lung. At the same time they have very real drawbacks in terms of membership and dealing with them. My company pays out really good salaries and benefits to avoid us wanting to go union so thats cool for me because I get all the perks, without the dues or ombudsmen and shit.

I just find union tactics to be bordering on terrorism and socialism. I like the fact that I get paid based on merit and some one who isn't up to par can get fired for that reason without the company suffering any repercussions. It leads to workers striving to do superior work. Management has always seen my skill and compensated me greatly for it. And I can do anything I need to get my job done without having to work around the labor restrictions of unions. If a company doesn't pay its workers enough, then those workers will go elsewhere. Non-union work is driven by republicanistic ideals and is self correcting and self regulating. But those kinds of ideals work well in Texas. There have been several unions that tried to use collective bargaining and strikes here and the companies just said, fine, you don't want to work, then you don't have a job and fired every last one of them. In a state where there are no pro-union laws, it is a tough sell to get people to join unions. So what has that financially done to the state? Well, we never went through the recession. The company I work at has never had to lay anyone off for economic reasons. Non-union states have a stronger economy in my opinion. Look at the pro-union states. They are still in prolonged period of recession.

Unions are something that used to be an absolute necessity but have outlived their usefulness. Our labor and wage laws are much better than they were when they were originally created.
Psyral is absolutely right about his assessment. I've seen it myself. You can basically miss as many days of work as you want and your union takes care of it for you. It's the American way though right?

all fair.
but at the same time, let us not forget that people do get fucked by the uppers. all the time.
and the unions are, themselves, just as good at fuckin people over. again, happens all the time.
too many money grubbers and jerks on both sides, and neither has ever convinced me they gave a shit about what the small fish want. theyre all beyond that, now.
its a lesser-of-two-evils thing, at best.

my state is recession-proof: a recession means everybody else comes down to our level for a while. all the same, here.

All the places that need unions [big box stores, retail, restaurants] nip them at the bud before they form.
All the places that don't need them [plumbers, barbers, electricians] have them. It's really silly.
pretty much.

good for your corner. what about the people youre supposed to be repping? ['oh, them...']
there it is... the point of the union is to protect the union. problem number one, with the union side of the argument.

setting aside your fascination with butts [cant you think of anything better than my niece says?], hes right.
