camping in the ‘parking lot’ near the gate would, im sure, be feasible.  that was my backup plan, if i couldnt find a spot.

that lot on the left was some bullshit.  nearly completely fenced off, so you would have to go back around the fences, back through the parking lot, and through the main gate, every time you needed to go somewhere.  to get from that lot to the vendors that were fifty feet away was a legitimate twelve-minute walk.

also, it supposedly wasnt owned by the same guy, so everybody camping there was technically squatting.

it had lots of isolated porto-potties, though.

And what they did last year was let the people going in on foot through the gate first, then they started letting in the vehicles. There was a group of maybe…200? people who ran in (literally) as soon as the gates opened.

Well that answers MY one new question as this’ll be a first for me bringing my car in.

I’m REALLY thinking that I’ll go in on foot so I can get my site THEN go back up bring my car in. Where *I was camped in Oddities, there wasn’t really a place to park NEXT to my tent but people seemed to have been able to park along the fences behind the Pendulum Stage and that’s where I’m gonna target.

my car is my tent.  in fact, ive never had a tent, although i did set up a canopy a couple times.

having said that, if it wasnt for entrapped being in a spot that still had a decent amount of room left, i mightve ended up goin with plan b and camping just outside the gate.

If my peoples all woulda came and had our tents, we would have had decent spots to camp at. Our other people were at the hotel with our belongings, we only brought stuff that’ll last us all night for the parking lot party. I regret that now. Money wise, it’d be cheap to say fuck paying for parking at this location, I’ll just leave my car in the lot. If I gotta take a hike to go to my car so be it, nothing worse than Hog Rock.

I plan to just park in the lot and walk. I still don’t know if I’m going yet. I wanna go but I don’t know my friend is going to be able and dunno if I wanna go at it alone. But If I go imma camp probably in Alakazam or right around the main gate entrance (where the guys where checking coolers at)

With saying that, I remember walking past but not through Alakazam. I read that campsites are to be 15′ apart but it looked like it was super tight. If anyone was in there lemme know. Just trying to plan what I should and shouldn’t bring. Also this is kinda odd but I read people saying they brought their own portable toilets and privacy tents. I plan to do that after going last year and seeing how nasty the shitters were by the 2nd day. I was wondering if anyone used any before anytime you were camping. The cheapest option is a 5 gallon bucket with a snap on toilet seat and bio bags but I’m am big dude so I don’t know if its sturdy. Im tempted to just buy a foldable commode and get the bio bags as liner. Hey whatever works right lol but seriously any camping advice with that would be appreciated

@phreakcore alakazam was pretty much an open field next to the gate. Very quiet. The shitters I only went in them twice when my tent was occupied and they were decent (better than years past) It may be because they were easily accessible for the cleaners.

I’ve brought one of those bedside toilets for the last two years, and put it inside a privacy tent. I had a regular sized one, but I’m a voluptuous lady, so when I found the “fat people” version, I bought it with the quickness since it was a little more comfy. I got it at a thrift store for $10 (and yes, I scrubbed the hell out of it, but saved like $50 over buying one new). It’s a total life saver when nature calls since it’s clean every time you use it. We put TP, wet wipes, a roll of bags and a string of LED lights inside. And mine has an opaque bucket inside it, so when you are done, you just tie up the bag, and take the whole bucket to the trash can to dump it (so you don’t just have to walk around with a shit bag for everyone to see…unless you want to haha).

I like alakazam because I could just walk back and forth to parking lot to get my gear/supplies. If I run out of anything I can always access my car. I stayed at a motel last year right by a walmart so I know where it is. Plus if I don’t feel like waiting for a shower there is a truck stop not far I can hit up. Guess I’m not much of a campers camper lol. Thanks for the info

Thats EXACTLY what type of setup I was thinking. They got em online for like 30-50 bucks online. Those 5 gallon bucket with the toilet seat on top didn’t look too stable or comfy. Plus the privacy tent is good for changing and getting ready in. I read that you said you were going to a hotel this year. My friends and I stayed at the star lite motel last year. It was off OH-79. 15 min drive from the venue. I saw the info on the gathering website but they didn’t have much of a website. I saw on either Yelp or Tripadvisor some good feed back that it was clean and whatnot. 50 bucks a night and it was right by a Wal-mart. We had a good stay but this year I really want to camp. I feel like we missed a lot in the daytime and it felt like even though I had fun last year I didn’t get the full experience.  I read your review from last year and it definitely made me want to camp this year…oh and to try the N/A strawberry daiquiris lol

So good, dude. It’s gonna be the first thing I do after I find my camp and throw my stuff down.

Oh, and they aren’t just strawberry. They have strawberry, orange and pineapple. You can get one flavor for the smoothie and another for the topping, or both the same flavor.

what about tents? once you set them up for the first night, is it safe to leave them up until you come back and or do you need to pack it up after every night?

more or less.

i personally wouldnt trust my shit to be left undisturbed, so anything left unlocked is sumn i can live without.  but i dont bring expensive shit.  for that matter, i dont bring a tent, either.

best thing is to just be cool with your neighbors, keep an eye out for each other, and make it known that anybody stealing is gonna get clubbed senseless.

I plan on making nice with my neighbors. If they smoke weed then imma pack a bowl with them if possible.(weed seems to always bring people together) If they don’t then just introduce myself and whatnot. I mean we do have to have each others backs kinda. If it seems kinda shady then I will move camp if I have to. Hopefully not. I went last year but didn’t camp out. This forum, the reviews and the videos from last year is what made wanna camp this year. Well plus we didn’t get back each day to the gathering till late afternoon and I missed waaaaay to much awesomeness. An online friend of mine might be coming so I plan to camp with his group. I’m not bringing my car in so I can always lock shit up there if need be. Ain’t like i’m gonna be big ballin. If some mofos wanna take my shitter then so be it…i guess lol I do kinda need that just sayin =) Im sure closer to the gathering more people will be planning stuff and if your friends with anyone on here you can always think about setting up shop together. I myself am new out here and not one to invite myself along on others peoples plans (O.P.P) hahahaha. With saying that though if I do end up camping near anyone from the forums I definitely will be a good neighbor. Maybe I should change my name to State Farm lol ok im done acting goofy.

There *was talk of a few people’s tents getting rousted but from what I remember they were mostly all towards the top of the hill (ie the Alakazam/front gate area). That area may be convenient but it is NOT inside the grounds proper. You don’t have to have an armband. For all intents anybody could have camped out in the parking lot/Alakazam which also would let them get to the seminars and autograph tents.

You’ll hear many times that you should get to know your neighbors. They aren’t gonna defend yer shit but if they know who’s in the area around THEM then they might think twice about someone rummaging around a neighbors shit.

All the same, I put a little luggage lock on the zippers of my tent. Of course I ended up locking my keys inside… but that’s another story (pin your keys to the inside of your pockets!!!) I plan on bringing a changing/toilet tent and after reading that some people had gotten their shitter… shit on… I plan to lock those up too.

It ain’t rude to be safe.

How is the new place in Ohio compared to Hog Rock? I went to the gathering 3 times when it was at hog rock, and I can’t imagine it being somewhere else. Right by the river, in the middle of nowhere, it was perfect.

I liked both places. But Legend Valley has no river or Lake Hepatitis. It’s not in the middle of nowhere. If you run out of supplies it’s a quick drive or even a walk across the street to the convenient store for stuff. I think it will be better this year since they had last year to work out the kinks.

@zero , If you go, stop by the Faygoluver’s Meetup Massacre and meet your fellow forum members. It’ll be every day/night at noon and midnight. Not set yet where it will be this year but someone will make a thread about it as it gets closer to Gathering time.

I may go, I was hoping to this year.
Would I be able to bring weed? At hog rock we all just smoked out in the open.
