the worst thing you can say to a person in psychological crisis is, ‘snap out of it’.

worst.  possible.  thing.

like telling a quadriplegic that theyll be cured, if they do more jogging.

So how does one recognize psychological crisis? And how does one get out of it?

So how does one recognize psychological crisis? And how does one get out of it?

those are the questions, arent they?

how to describe opacity to a blind person?  how to describe the difference between frequency and pitch to a deaf person?

this is even more difficult.  neither side has a proper frame of reference.

whatever the answers may be… glib, one-liner tidbits of advice wont be part of it.

no xanax for me, by the way.  thats what herb is for.

The quadriplegic line… Oh, scruffy, you joker you. I like that, actually.

And THANK YOU Jules. I’m glad at least somebody can relate. I mean, I’m not glad that you understand because you suffer as well, that part blows, but… Aw hell, you know what I’m freakin’ getting at lol.

Psyral, thank you for not taking offense at my rant. As far as recognizing a psych crisis? That’s tough. Depends on the psychosis you’re dealing with, first of all. More often than not, whoever is in crisis will deny it. Classic symptom of schizophrenia – Rarely does a schizo know he’s a schizo. That’s why that one usually requires a third party to intervene for the afflicted one to get help. Back to your question, there’s no one right answer.

As for part B, how to get out of one… Again, depends on what you’re dealing with. For me, as you joked earlier, the easiest answer would be carefully regulated medication to rebalance the chemicals. After they’re balanced for a period of time, you can wean off the meds and, with luck, the chemicals will keep themselves balanced.

Typically, with most mental ailments, the shit that’s out of whack are neurotransmitters, the most common one requiring balance being dopamine. Improper levels of dopamine are a theorized cause of schizophrenia. Anxiety, on the other hand, is linked to (I had to look this one up lol) GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acid, which is the second most prevalent neurotransmitter in the human brain. Going back to dopamine – fun fact – most opiates tweak your dopamine levels, which is what causes their “high”. So… Basically… Do a couple lines of coke, and you’re intentionally making yourself semi-schizophrenic. Cool huh? ;)

i can relate.  been there, done that, still dealin with it, time to time.

we just got different approaches to it, is all.

i couldnt tell ya if im sociopathic, schizophrenic, bipolar, or ‘hypersane’.  the pshrinks disagree considerably.

which is [partly] why i quit fuckin with em.  i dont place much stock in that clinical bullshit; their whole view of my condition is entirely colored by their own motivations.  usually, rolling pills.

fuck a pshrink.

I don’t believe in shrinks, either. I figure we’re designed the way we each are for a reason, and if we can’t hack it without someone telling us how to be “well” or medicate us to be “normal”, that’s Darwin’s way of saying we’d better get started on our good-byes.

If I had to self-diagnose? Severe depression, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, situational anxiety, mild schizophenia, and mild bipolar disorder.

Hm… If my self-diagnosis is even halfway accurate, I think I deserve a prize for making it to 34 without seeking treatment or medication. lol.

It is impossible for him to be God. Then again, maybe God’s just up there making fun of everything in the Old Testament. “LOL Locusts.  Fuck you, Egypt! /bongrip”

I'm the neck cutta and I'm one block away...

So I’m flying in from Washington ST, but I need a ride from the airport (Columbus). I haven’t bought my plane ticket yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be there late on the 21st. I can throw down gas money, and only want to stop to pick up food and booze.

Can’t you see this thread has been hijacked? Geez, the nerve of some people!

I kid, I kid lol… Somebody offer a ride to Scorchmuffin  so we can get back to the thread’s original purpose. My apologies for the takeover lol.

No, you misunderstand me, @sorchmuffin_of_apathy – your post is the reason for this thread’s existence. Not what I accidentally hijacked it for. I was jokingly thanking you for getting the thread back on topic. :)

So – Columbus, late on the 21st. Offering gas money. Wants to stop for the essentials. Somebody help a dude out!

Sure. Maybe add water and sunscreen to your short list of essentials.

@entrappedmind , oh cool, just wasn’t sure if I was being the bloated elephant in the room. @krunkazphuk , yeah water and sunscreen are essential items. Last time me and my friend took the greyhound and didn’t have time to stop and pick up supplies…mistakes were made that day XD

Do you know how late? I’ll be arriving by bus around 10. If it’s around that time, I’m def down to pick you up. I’m renting a car and would appreciate some help with that. If you want to store stuff in the car or go anywhere during the event (like to get more ice or something) I’d most likely be down for that, too.

you might wanna check the bus too. I was thinking of flying but the bus is saving me like $300.

@RobTidwell, from the three tickets I’ve looked at: The earliest was about 8 pm the 21st, and the latest was 11 pm the 21st. I took a bus my first year, but I’m not doing that all the way from Seattle again…I’d personally pay a little extra to get there on time and not deal with greyhound drama for two days. Do you want money help or driving help, cause I don’t have a license.
