Im listening to it now and on first impressions, its all over the place. Half the songs sound like they were recorded in a different time period coz J sounds like his teeth a falling out (specifically Insomnia) on half of them. Theres some high concept production on some tracks with super technical beats then just basic "beats". It sounds like they worked with some experienced producers and some bog standard beat makers and it isnt working for me. Feels like a forgotten freshness or something.

The vocal mixes differ across a lot of the tracks and they have producer tags on a lot of the tracks too.

As far as a collection of songs, its not too bad but its not a joker card. The production quality varies far too much, vocal performances are uneven, the vocal mixing is all over the place and that overarching panning sound on Wretched (the sound layed over the music and vocals that goes from left to right throughout the whole song) is super distracting too.

Why couldnt they just work with one producer? Why couldnt J re-record the verses he recorded a year ago, now that he can work his mouth properly)? Why did they put that awful Heart & Soul song on this album? Why couldnt one person mix all the tracks?

This is a Violent J album. Real shame as shaggy has been holding down the ICP name for a long time now but I wouldnt even say he takes a back seat here... Hes not even in the vehicle. He took the bus.

I think theyre gonna lose a lot of people with this one. Again, its not a joker card and the "loyalty" angle they were going for, seems to be an afterthought. Its some ICP songs, recorded over the span of a couple of years, with music from producers and beat makers.

Ill stop ranting now and go back under my rock.

All of this!  You are right on.

I thought "Here Comes The Carnival" kinda sorta sounded like classic ICP and gave me hope, but after that it's all just "eh."  There's bit and pieces that are cool, but it's nothing I ever need to revisit.  If I'm gonna listen to ICP, I'm not gonna grab this one.  The ShaggyTheAirhead drops at the beginning of a few songs are lame and make this sound like some sort of mix tape, as opposed to a Joker's Card.  It's like they're trying to sound current and modern but at the same time, they lose what made all of us love ICP to begin with.  I get them wanting to try new things and I respect that, but this just isn't for me.  I will always check out what ICP puts out, but they are no longer "must buys" for me anymore.

I gave it a listen on YouTube. I enjoyed it but I need to sit down and listen to it with Headphones on. I know I loved Here Comes the Carnival, Jokstas, Panic Attack, Carnival of Lights, Heart and Soul, and Wretched

For those that don't know Heart and Soul was a cover of an old 80s song by T'pau.

I'm seriously curious about the recording process and timeline. I think we can all determine Ding Ding Doll, Candyman, and Afraid of Life we supposed to be on the album.

My initial reaction is better than Found and FFF. I've come around to liking Found but I still only dig about 5 FFF tracks.

This has the same new sporadic rap style as FFF but the beats are MUCH better. I was actually able to bob my head without the music dropping in and out with effects constantly.

I think a strength and flaw of this album is how dense the lyrics are. There's not a single simple, catchy chorus and most of the time it's impressive, other times it's annoying. Icp is working really hard on these track but maybe sometimes too hard?

I really respect that good or bad, ICP has just been pushing themselves outside of the box. The last 3 cards all completely shocked me by their style and none of them sound the same. It's hit or miss but I like how they refuse to be stagnant or try to recapture the old sound. They've written over 500 songs and you can tell they're motivated to keep trying new things. I'm mixed positive on this one. I think it'll grow on me.

This is also definitely the most personal album for J. He's getting a lot of his struggles, fears and desires out on the mic and I respect the passion.

As for the album themes, I much prefer the obvious connection with the flower representating drugs that Yum Yum's Lure had. This had a few references and a focused track on addiction. Yum yum was mainly about toxic women who you think you want but need to avoid. The song Queens highlights the women who truly love you and how people can take them for granted. It's a bit shallow but again, I know it's coming from a personal place and I'd be lying if I said I didn't understand that.

Yum Yum Bedlam is decent but I think we need Mike E. Clark back for the 6th. We never got to hear him do the 6th and it's time.

For me it was the all over the place that sucked. Everything after MEC was like that. Honestly i wouldve been ok with mike P doing this album, and imo thats who they shouldve went with. Then gave the 6th to MEC.

I dont like icp rapping on the type of beats they been rapping on. Its the drums, for me.

Clearly theres been a disconnection there. This album felt like something they needed to release fast. I will give it another listen today but yeah im pretty disappointed. I have no interest in the seeds. This shouldve just been a J ep and they shouldve released this card next year.

They also didnt use str8jackets beats i remember reading something about them scrapping their work with him. Im thinking thats why this is all over the place.

Very sad to me. Usually i like every icp release. J's addiction must have really got to him.

It's very disappointing that the CD is exclusive to ICP's online store and pre-orders aren't arriving until several days after release date. It's nice that the emailed the album in .wav so I could burn a full quality CD and listen tonight, but it's definitely not the same magic of going to the record store, looking through the booklet while you listen the first time, etc.

As for the album itself, I'll echo some of the previous comments. It doesn't feel like a Joker's card at all. It's like random tracks that could have been on random EPs/singles/samplers and just crammed on an album with no rhyme or reason. On the first listen, I did like a few songs, but a lot of them were just boring with no catchy hooks, clever lines or anything that made them stand out. I loved both Marvelous Missing Link albums. I thought FFF was okay, but it eventually grew on me and I like it quite a bit now.

On first listen, Yum Yum Bedlam is definitely a bigger disappointment than FFF was on first listen. With that said, here are the songs I thought were really good on first listen: HERE COMES THE CARNIVAL, WRETCHED, THE DRUNK & THE ADDICT, SOMETHING TO SEE.

Panic Attack is a complete rip off of Mother Mother by Tracy Bonham.

For those that have the CD booklet, is Bonham given credit in the liner notes, or did they just hope nobody would notice?

I’ve listened again from start to finish today and I do really enjoy it. Still have some songs on there that I absolutely hate, like Ain’t No Time and Something to See, but overall I really like it.

Has everyone heard the ‘Fuck the World’ remix at the end of Insomnia???? That is genius man! Hahaha!

I think the beats are the problem. Anytime they do these beats its almost like they feel uncomfortable on them and the way they are rapping isn't in harmony with the beat. Its an album full of stilted and awkward timings.

I first really notificed this on KillJoy Club. They really seemed to struggle with the beats on the album that 3 6 picked out.

They need to throw down with a real producer. Fuck man, get Rick Rubin.

These dime a dozen trap beats don't work for ICP. There are for sure 4 solid songs on the album though.

I do a bit of sound editing, mixing and mastering as kind of a hobby and semi-professionally (in the sense that I often make a little bit of money from this work) and I cannot believe that anyone with an ear for such things could have passed this as a finished product. I've listened from start to finish 4 times, on 3 different devices (PC with studio speakers, phone at the gym with headphones & in the car). The mix is a complete mess. I'm convinced a there were at least 3 mixing/mastering sessions of individual/groups of tracks over a period of time and they were just lumped together.

It's probably because I automatically listen for mix quality that it's bugging me so much but I'm convinced I could have done a better job and I'm far from being at a level worthy of fully professional work. I would probably turn down the work as I don't beleive I'm skilled enough to handle a project like this and I would shit my pants. The polish of this album feels cheap and that's my main problem. The fact I think the songs and beats aren't very good is just my shitty opinion but the quality of the mix is just bad. Fact.

Youve got songs where the vocals sit right on top of the beat, like they're literally talking to you with music playing in th background, then you've got other songs where the vocals are so buried in the instrumental, you can barely make out the words they're saying and it's a chore to listen to.

Its not exusive to ICP. Eminem's Revival album has one of the wort mixes I've ever heard and his budget must have been insane.

The sheer amount of effects on Js voice on the songs where he is struggling to talk is horrible. I've said it before but Jesus. How long would it have taken to rerecord those songs? Not like they didn't have time.

I guess this is a great album if you aren't OCD about the technical side of mixing/mastering, you love modern beats, you love oldskool "rappers" trying to keep up with newskool rappers flow-wise, you want change and you like DJ tags at the start of your songs.

I probably need to stop fucking bitching about it but honestly, this is the only joker card I've been truly, fully disappointed by and I've been listening since like 98.

No dude don't stop bitching. Its completely fine to be pissed off and let down. I'm gonna listen tonight and i dont know what to expect really. Hearing that they left the producer drops on some of the beats is already pissing me off. This is a Jokers Card not a fucking mixtape.

I'm really hoping i'll like a good portion of it at least.

I sincerely hope everyone likes it more than I do. I still love ICP (even if I sound like a hater) and hope this album is a huge success. Maybe they're reaching for a different demographic, that I don't fit.

I'd even be happy with Mike P. Regardless, they need to work with a dedicated producer. Whoever they work with needs to be in their peer group. Stop giving the responsibility of carrying your 30 year legacy, to 20 year olds with no experience outside of their bedrooms.

8 songs in and I'm not too impressed, I like here comes the carnival and fuck regret(shaggy's verse and the chorus at least..) but not feeling the rest.

I'll check out the rest later, not even really eager to finish listening at this point. I was one of the few who didn't like FFF, and i see J's still rapping that same kinda way, which is annoying to me..Definitely sounds like he's trying, but I'm just not feeling his new rap style.

With that said I like 2/7 songs so far(not counting intro) so if there's another 2 on here I like, hopefully at least 1 that I really like then that works for me..I'm not expecting a ton anymore, haven't dug newer ICP as much for 5 years or so.

Wtf @the outro on panic attack lmao, had me laughing but I don't really get the idea of it, decent for a one time listen lol..

Also, I've thought this on recent albums as well but Shaggy is clearly the better rapper these days..J carried a lot of the older stuff, but Shaggy's definitely more consistent and better imo nowadays.

On a more positive note, I think 'here comes the carnival' is one of the best album openers they've had in a long while..

I would love another fully produced by Mike P ICP album. In fact for the 6th of the second deck Mike P, Mike E and Kuma would be the dream team for me. I do like some of the beats that Shaggy the Airhead and Devereaux have done but my dream team have never been anywhere near a trap beat (as far as i know :)

I just desperately want to like Yum Yum and dont want to be let down by it as its the first ICP album in a while i've been really excited about. I'll post my review tomorrow smile
