Love Shangri-La and Hell’s Pit. I like to bump Shangri solo for some reason. It just seems to.represent one point in time that will never again occur.
When Shangri came out, I was working the dishwasher at a chicken shack for $5.50 an hour. Lived in a one room apartment with shared bathroom and kitchen with disgusting strangers. I once killed seven mice there in one evening. I awoke to mice chewing my hair once or twice.
I listened to.it with the headphones like requested. It was awesome as fuck. I find 2 Dope singing “fuckin take me instead!” to be one of ICP’S emotional high points. Goosebump~inducing.
The album is near flawless to me, despite hsving to be in the right mood for Homies and Cotton Candy and Fudgicles.

I find Hell’s Pit easier to listen to. It’s one of those CDs where I don’t mind skipping tracks to get to the ones I really like. Can’t do that with Wraith. Like I said, all about start to finish.
The remixes for Hell’s Pit were great. There were a few sloppy sounding remixes on both, but C.P.K’s, Truly Alone, Manic Depressive, In My Room, those were all great remixes. I love both versions of The Witch.
The Bowling Balls disc was pretty good. I personally liked it more than Hustlas and Rustlas. I think they’re funnier when they’re trying to be scary. Same with Death Racers, sorta. They were just being themselves in that one… well, in a way…
But their movies are another topic altogether.
Bottom line, I like The Wraith more as an album and Hell’s Pit for specific tracks.

I feel like it wouldnt be fair to the other albums to count two devastating albums as one, lol. I meant Shangri-La, not a huge fan of Hell’s Pit absolutely love about half of it thoughI hope so much that one day we’re saying this about The Missing Link.
My big gripe with Mike P. is his fillers… are OBVIOUSLY filler tracks. At least with MEC, it feels like he goes, “Okay, we need 3 more tracks? I got these 3 beats, let’s work with them.” With Mike P, it feels like, “Oh shit we need 3 filler tracks? Let me mishmosh and get a bunch of other producers to give their input as well.” And it shows.
Like, filler for MEC would be something like, “Just Like That.” Which in the end is a phenomenal song. But you cannot deny it’s just a fill between “Down With the Clown” and “Pass Me By.”
Mike P.’s filler is shit like “Cotton Candy & Popsicles.” It sounds like audio diarrhea… thank God ICP are clowns and can pull off a “so bad it’s good” song better than most artists.
What other songs do you think are “filler”? Just interested in seeing what people think.

I remember getting the Wraith-Shangri-La back 2002. Me and 3 of my juggalo homies rolled up to meijers at midnight. We went straight over and grabbed some 2 liters of Faygo and head for the new releases in the music section…..now it was 12:20 am. Looking didn’t see it. Ask the guy in the music section ” You guys got the new ICP The Wraith” his reply “No that doesn’t come out til next week” Us “No it’s out today muthafucko” He went to the back and there it was 2 different version the gold sticker and the sliver sticker “give us one of each” Get back to the car put it in and all us where like what the fuck is this!!! sounded like some stale sell out music! wasn’t feeling it! I waited 8 years for the sixth jokers card and this it…. So for me The Wraith-Shangri-La is the worst ICP record ever!…….. Now The Wraith-Hells Pit is classic! love that record!

The second set of Joker’s Cards is completely different from the first. I wasn’t even there but I can tell. The internet has taken too much fun away from everything. The phone calls for the name, all sorts of other cool stuff.
I agree. I remember J even mentioning several cool things they did with the cards in Behind The Paint before the internet, as you put it, took that fun away.
What you said about looking for Hell’s Pit in Walmart made me laugh. I was on vacation too when I looked for my first ICP CD, it was visiting friends in Santa Barbara and I was looking in a Borders Bookstore. Hell’s Pit was actually one of the CD’s there. For me, it was between that and The Great Milenko. I went with Milenko (thus, MilenkoSeed).
I asked this girl working there where Insane Clown Posse was and bought the album from her. She kept making these weird expressions and I felt all awkward and goofy, remembering it like it happened yesterday. I listened to Milenko on my walkman that night and had never been more happy with a purchase in my life. I really felt the magic of ICP that night.
And if I could feel that from a CD that had been out for years, I can only imagine buying The Wraith on its release 12 years ago.

when i fist got into it my homie snagged his sisters CD case and we listened to AJB and i thought it was dope, so i went to the library and found the Clam CD got home and threw it in the player and i was like “WTF? Is this the same group or did i fuck up?”
but i do think The Wraith is a solid album, one of the best IMO, wish i was there when it dropped XD

Technically there are 2 wraiths. The evil one on Shangri-La trying to drag you to hell and the good one on Hell’s Pit trying to pull you to heaven. I remember reading that in a ask ICP or ask Shaggy thing on their website. That was revealed much later after Hell’s Pit even came out though. Still I consider it a double album and the listener chooses which path they want.

lol the Clam
Yeah, wasn’t a huge fan of the Clam. Or Tepmest. Or Eye of the Strom.
I do have nostalgic feelings around Tempest though. Tempest tour was my first time seeing ICP live, so Tempest holds a special place for me in that regard.

The calm was awful, The Tempest had like 5 good songs and eye of the storm had a few. if you would have combined the best of the tempest with the eye of the storm you could have had a solid 12-13 song album
