For those who didnt enjoy it any specific reasons why? Beats rhymes content etc…?1 it was supposed to be wicked and occult but instead it had shit like and we danced and gimme dat blood.
2 the lineup change. Mars sucked and abk didn’t match the feeling. And it was obvious he was dubbed in. And I didn’t like black rain for similar reasons to #1. Abk is awesome but he doesn’t have the lotus aura.
3 all the drama memories just brings me mentally to an unfun time to be a juggalo.
to your third point, I think J basically said that too about the album which is why he doesn’t like it. Also is there any reason its been out of print for as long as it has been? I snagged a copy for like 35 bucks

Am I the only one who didn’t think mwab was that wicked? It’s a good record, but it’s not really emotional or creepy, and usually J goes in for lotus records.
i enjoyed it. was definitely a dope release. something i was not expecting from another lotus album, it didnt feel strained or forced at all. id rank it on par with black rain and tftlp. i think opaque brotherhood is one of the most polarising releases from psy. your either absolutely love it or absolutely hate it.
thats what this thread should been. Opaue brotherhood. Phat or Whack?

I enjoyed the fact it was teh first psy supergroup. it felt like a completely cohesive project, everyone knew what to do and where to put what. but now looking back it was probably J standing over everyone in the booth with a shotgun.

That’s the reason Black Rain and Black Magic are my favorite tracks from that, they are pretty wicked. Although, I do love the rest of the album anyway, just those two tracks are straight wicked. I love the chants and shit. And backwards talking. And deep pitch voices. That’s the shit.

J was saying in the book how he was at a very dark time in his life at that point. Overweight, not eating right, panic attacks began rearing their ugly heads, the drama, feeling lost without The Sixth conceptualized, starting to feel the effects of.getting old, albums flopping, etc.
We all have songs that we love or once loved that are tainted by memories of people or situations at that time. One bitch almost ruined some great music by K-OS, Wu-Tang and others for me. The Opaque Brotherhood, one of my favorite albums, arrived at my home.in NC a couple weeks after my brother died. The album is top notch, but it is capable of bringing me to a place that is indescribable in its sadness. Along with “Dont You Wish it was True?” by John Fogerty, “No One” by Alicia Keys. Just absolute soul crushing at the wrong moments. So I get why J doesnt care to listen to TFTLP. Music is like a sixth sense in how it can enact emotional nostalgia. Like the sense of smell. It is overpowering.
But still, Novo, in response to.your question: The Opaque Brotherhood? PHAT.
And Tales and Black Rain both had those more lighthearted tracks, most of which I like, but I think thats important for the overall vibe of Dark Lotus shows. The very first one in 2001, where they played not just Lotus tracks but collabos, like Hounddogs, 85 Bucks an Hour, Spin the Bottle, i swear Twiztid even did Murder Murder Murder during the Lotus set. Anyone else remember?
Once again, however, I can do without goddamned Doornail Dorothy. Debbie in the Dark would kick that bitches’ ass.

Yeah, that’d be cool Lucky.
But, I’ve never heard much of Black Rain, or Opaque Brotherhood except Backwards. I have Mud Water Air Blood. But, is Black Rain or Opaque wicked occult or anything? I’ll still listen either way. I liked Backwards. And what I heard from Black Rain is good.

lemme tell ya somethin about lotus albums…
as most of you know im a pragmatist. i dont place any stock in superstition.
that said, every time i get a new lotus album, shit goes bad. currently four for four on that.
its hogwash, of course, the idea that there is a mystical connection there. but it still makes me wary. and yes, it taints my view of lotus, just a little bit.
awfully paranoid, arent you?

Lotus is your nightmare, lotus is your nightmare.
i like depressing music sometimes. It gives me connection to artists. As I am like, severely depressed. I understand about 99% of violent js rants and ravings because I usually relate.
Im a violent j mark, so I’ll always make the disclaimer that I may be biased.
Depressing music is, sadly and ironically, the best music. Mostly.
And thats odd, Screffy. But some things just line up with our lives, for some or maybe no real reason. Like how.we discussed the “11:34 Phenomenon” about digital clocks.

Well, it’s not an occult lyric, but in Kaboom J talks about swinging a sledgehammer into someone’s head/body until the bed they were sleeping in breaks.

yeah. which somebody supposedly dubbed ‘the baader-meinhof effect’.dumb name, but pretty much that.
Just one of the many cognitive biases that most people are prone to. It’s just another reason you should never trust anything anyone (including yourself) thinks or believes.
I’ve heard it called “Frequency Illusion” or “Frequency Bias” The story behind the “Baader-Meinhof Effect” name is a bit interesting.
From http://www.psmag.com/culture/t…..non-59670/ -> The name “Baader-Meinhof phenomenon” was invented in 1994 by a commenter on the St. Paul Pioneer Press’ online discussion board, who came up with it after hearing the name of the ultra-left-wing German terrorist group twice in 24 hours. The phrase became a meme on the newspaper’s boards, where it still pops up regularly, and has since spread to the wider Internet. It even has its own Facebook page. Got all that? Don’t worry. You’ll hear about it again soon.

A weird one the other day, at the dispensary I met my very first Marguerite, and she had me write her name for a sign up sheet. We all discussed her name and laughed. That same night my wife was watching Annie, id never seen it, and there was a part where they are watching an old flick in a theater, and the lady was named Marguerite. Weird.

marz was an opening act on bizzar bizaar tour. he had a band that backed him up and his style was sort of rap metal. he had an album at the time called ‘lung fu mo she’ that sounded really dope to me at the time, but has lost its flair over the years. he got put on lotus, and was going to be put on psy. psy even hyped him up by putting one of his songs on the psy sampler of 2001. then at the gathering 2001, marz performed without his band and in facepaint, as well as performing with lotus. if i’m not mistaken, this is the only time he peformed with lotus & he was basically out of the group weeks after the album was released due to some disagreement. then he put out an icp diss song where he claims that he himself is the 6th joker card. it was pretty bad.

Obviously we can’t agree on that, but I will say TFTLP with Marz is right up there with Wizard of the Hood, Great Milenko, and W.I.C.K.E.D. as one of my favorite Psy releases.
I didn’t expect to be so in the minority with that opinion, either.
You are not alone sir.

Who is marz and why was he on lotus anyway? I feel like he came out or nowhere. First it was twiztids only, then twiztids and blaze, then esham. then when it came out it was this guy. Then a couple months later he’s psychopathic public enemy number two after eminem.
Ive read like a hundred stories and they’re all different. I forget does j go into it on behind the paint?
i never heard that esham was supposed to be on lotus. that would have be ok, i guess. in a racist sort of way. because you know everyone who works with esham is either a slave owner or a klan member.
