Where are more of the “True facts about Drew”?… or are we supposed to submit questions? And if we are now in the question and answer portion of the show, do we have to have the queries in a format where the answers will be “yes or no” or can we ask questions that require more of an essay style response? And finally, are others encouraged to add to the topic with their own facts about themselves or is this supposed to be all about Drew?  

One fact a day and sure anything goes in this thread although I would like to stay away from religion and politics. I am probably a black sheep there.

Sorry man. I know it got a little derailed with nonsense. But that’s kinda my style, I go with the flow.

Day 4 Fact about Drew:

I was raised in a small community. We didn’t have the luxury of being picky about what race our friends were. So many of my friends were not white and then some were. Needless to say this has gotten me in trouble (albeit innocently) a few times.

The first example I was 10 years old. Yes! I never heard this word til this day. I was playing basketball in my grandmas driveway with a couple of black buddies Jamar and Jazzy and a white buddy of mine Steven. Jamar and Jazzy kept referring to eachother as the “N-Word” and I finally understood this to mean “Buddy”. So eventually I said “Pass me the ball *****” and Jazzy got really angry, not aggressive but definitely left. I was absolutely mortified and Jamar explained things to me (he was the closer friend of the two) and he believed I didn’t know. My mom also had to explain to me why it was socially acceptable for them to use it but not me. I apologized to Jazzy at school the next day but it still took months for him to talk to me again.

The other instance was. Me and my buddy Steven (yes same Steven, we have been buds since pre-k) are obsessed with haunted places. Well, on Baylor campus there is supposed to be an old hanging tree that has weird stuff and sounds happen around it at night. So we are trying to find it around campus. We looked for over an hour and I got frustrated. I rolled down the window and asked some girls “Excuse me, Do you know where the hanging tree is?”…..My Wife speeds off before I could get an answer and I am now pissed off. I said “What the fuck is your problem?” she then turns to me and says “Those girls were black.” and at this point I am red with embarrassment. I never had to worry about these issues and here I was 25 years old and not paying attention. I turn to Steven and say “Were they black?” and he said “I think the closest one was mixed but the other one was definitely black”….I ask my wife to take me back so i could apologize but she refused. I feel terrible still to this day from this incident.

Day 5 Fact about Drew:

(This one is not really funny and not all of them will be but I promised facts and my life has not been all rainbows and unicorns.)

I spent the ages of 12-17 locked up in Juvenile facilities. My dad was abusive as fuck and used to beat the shit out of me and one day he came home and I had enough and fought back knocking him out with a snow globe. They put me in the system for 3 months as a precaution because they considered my act as “Excessive force”. After 3 months they forgot to tell me that it took another 3 months of protective custody just to get the paperwork done for custody because my mom lived out of state from my dad. As a kid I felt lied to and tried to run away. The guard on duty at the safe house tried to grab me and I swung on him earning myself 6 more months. I spent the rest of my 13-17 years fighting the system and behaved “Just” well enough to get on good behavior and be bussed to public school  by the Boy’s Facility. Everytime I about earned my way back home I did dumb shit as soon as I got there. From 16-17 I did well enough to go home. My turn around happened at 18 when I was back in Texas and my brother got shot and killed over some beef gone bad. This was my second brother I have watched die and it finally just stuck with me. I have been straight (other then a little smoke and drink) since that day.

Depressing I know, but I never promised EVERY one of these would be fun. See you guys later with a new fact and a first time show goers review of the riddlebox show and after party!

Wow, dude. I just wanted to say that I’m really sorry you went through all that.  Like, seriously.  It’s really fucked up that you got punished for self defense by a system that should have been protecting you.  And I’m so sorry for your loss.  

It’s really awesome that you are doing well now.    

I made choices as a young emotional kid that caused my problems. I blame no one. Should not have hit the guard. Yeah, I was a scared and confused kid but ultimately I knew enough basic morals to know attacking a guard was wrong. Life molds us into who we are. For many years…even after going straight I was angry and bitter but now when I think about it these days I am just thankful I am alive and living life the best I can.
