Careful LTB, fort wood sounds like one of those "Don't ask, Don't tell" army bases.

army base.  i had, for no real reason, assumed you meant army.  fort leonard wood has the army mp school.

guess im just army-centric.  which is probably why i refer to marines as 'self-propelled sandbags'.  all in good fun, naturally.

side note, you should probably start spelling parris island correctly before enlisting, as that place is like holy mecca for the jarheads.

camp lejeune, too, for that matter.

aint no thang.  shake it off, rub some dirt in it.

credit that one to drill sergeant hawk.  the guys name was hawk.  and he was hard edge.

long story.

i also like to call leathernecks bellhops.  its their job to hold the door open when the army gets there.

in general, though, i like marines, as people, as much or more as i do soldiers.  i get a kick out of the 'navyness'.  if you follow.

care to elaborate on "navyness" only navy jokes my pops make is that their real job is to transport marines and that while marines are a department of the navy, theyre the mens department lol. I've only ever disliked army guys because every one of them ive met has had a mile long "im the shit" stick stuck in their ass and try to tell me the army are better fighters than the marines. Despite when i point out their special forces cocked up Mogadishu after marines stabilized it, or battles such as Okinawa, peliluiu, Guadalcanal, iwo jima, Inchon, chosin, Seoul, khe sahn, etc. and the fact the army's best victories were done with extensive allied support and better funding and equipment.

marines can be seen as soldiers disguised as sailors, or sailors disguised as soldiers.  im not sure which.  seriously, though, the institutional culture of the marine corps starts with the navy.

the usmc definitely has that same stick in their ass.  i dont blame either for it.

far as whose a better fighter, we will never know.  the army and the marine corps have, and have always had, different missions.  given that alone, trying to say one group as a whole has better warfighting skills than the other is pointless.

i could discuss battles, tactics, and such all day, but i really dont have time.  fortunately, its already been discussed ad nauseum.  suffice it to say that, historically, the army has had the greater impact, mainly because the marine corps as we know it, the modern version, basicly didnt exist until world war ii.  the usmcs mission focus made them ideally suited to the pacific campaign, and they requited themselves damned well.

Bein raised by two marines and havin a big brother i idolize in the marines and being a marine hopeful i think its fair to say im biased, but i could argue it til i was blue in the face that the marines r superior to any standing force we got. But like u said, fuck it why bother lol
