Doesn’t Lil Pump count as underground rap?

Why is there such a segregation between underground and mainstream still when the lines almost don’t even exist anymore and there never was a distinction between the content or sound of underground and mainstream?

Plus, what about Pump makes him any more cancerous than juggalo rappers? He has the same fuck off attitude, the same drug use, the same kind of hair, the same simple lyrics, etc. I’m sure if he used a back packer delivery he’d fit right in.

Firstly that guy is literally signed to WB records under and 8 million dollar contract, that is not underground, not that I think all non-underground music is bad or any of that elitist bullshit, I love a lot of the more popular stuff, but a lot of people act like if its not popular its shit. (Also, while I don’t have any direct proof or anything, as people get more popular they tend to make their music more repetitive, as well as use more gimmicky sounds for beats, not necessarily a bad thing all the time, but its something)

Secondly, and this is just my opinion, HIS MUSIC MAKES ME WANT TO BLOW MY BRAINS OUT! If I have to listen to gucci gang one more time I’m going to eat somebodies arm off and murder a cassowary.

I’m not exposed to it as much so I don’t really have the chance to hate it. Never grabbed my attention enough. Honestly haven’t heard it enough to get it stuck in my head.

Don’t think popular artists are any more gimmicky or repetitive than underground ones.

ICP has a song where they literally just repeat ‘Carnival of Carnage’ over and over.

And Tech N9ne’s hook for I’m a Playa probably beats it in redundant lyrics.

It’s just a popular trope in poppy music. Well, even in more experimental music it happens, like clipping. having a song that is literally just them saying ‘get money’ over and over again for about 10 minutes straight.

Carnival of Carnage is a stain upon ICP’s record, I was in utter shock when I first heard it tbh, I was surprised that the same people that gave me songs I was freaking obsessed with made that thing.

My favorite thing about the carnival of carnage song is that played backwards, it’s the same lyrics.

They also had the great milenko song that was the same kinda track. Never listened to it backwards tho.

Also imma playa was tech copying that 80s song Amadeus

The pubic ones, yes. You need a new merkin or else you gonna get merced!

Speaking of merc… you are Faygoluvers’ Merc with the Mouth aka Deadpool. That is a compliment, ultimately.

Also speaking of blood sucking bugs…

Ticks and bed bugs have affected my life in such epic ways that I can almost respect their power. But no, they should be eliminated. As hippie love as I can come across sometimes, there is 100% zero good that comes from those things. They are proof of no God. Or a rather evil God…..

Sorry yall, I gotta bring this thread back to vent, I’m sick of dumbasses posing as “intellectuals” so that they can feel better than everyone else. You know the ones, the idiots that are probably no smarter than you if not dumber than you but always tried to talk with authority and act like they’re smarter than you. I’ve been called “intelectual” before (because I can talk politics and use big words) and frankly I couldn’t give a rats ass, but these fuckers wear it like a badge, I’ve met tons of these people in school, and in my current classes there’s this fucking group that imbody this to no end. One of them literally said, and I quote, “I think anyone thats intellectually comptenent would understand what we mean” and what did they mean you ask? They were discussing the INCREADABLY meaningful ramifacations of the word Beta, I am ready to stab a goats eye out, they have a surface level understanding of socio-political issues and act like just because they have any understanding at all that they’re fucking genius. And I’m not some high functioning academnic looking down on people for not being smart, I’m an asshole musician whose sick of putting up with their bullshit. I’m pretty sure I’m just as clueless as they are, at least on some issues, but at least I don’t pretend to know godamn everything.

Anyone from upstate NY can feel my irritation here:

☆☆ people who assume you are from “the big city” when you tell them you’re from New York. This will plague me forever.☆☆

… very quick, brief background first..

5c4c7f7677d27940941fa407624fe897.jpgImage Enlarger

I was born and mostly raised in the light green area, aka The Finger Lakes Region or “The Southern Tier”.

This area is over 4 hours from New York City.

Upstate NY has a handful of populous metropolitan cities, such as Syracuse, Rochester, Albany, etc. A few more smaller cities of around 100,000 people, like Binghamton and Elmira.

These cities have been part of extreme poverty and urban danger since before I was born. Due to many economic factors and also things like The Flood of 1972. I could go on.

The rest of that huge upper part of the state is like 90% farmland, hills, small mountains, lakes and ponds. It is beautiful, varied country that unfortunately has never recovered from it’s continuous economic decline. I’ve referred to Elmira (where I went to school and lived at times) as Little Detroit.

So to fully explain the intricacies and variances of upstate NY would take me hours, maybe days. So I will put it like this:

Upstate NY is simultaneously extremely rural and extremely ghetto. It is a very unique mix of livelihoods and individuals.

My very bus had “the country route” and “the city route”. Most didnt get along.

There is a huge amount of interracial breeding in Elmira. So much that a man wrote a semi-autobiographical story about it called “Zebratown” (black and white stripes, get it?).

From my many experiences, lots of the white country girls dug the city black dudes, and the city black girls dug us country white dudes. My late brother himself produced wonderful children in Elmira with a black girl. Aka “Zebratown” aka “Hellmira”.

We gre up 7 miles in the hills next to a forest in a literal hunting shack. I cannot state this enough: we grew up in a shack. Our friends all called it “The Shack”. We used to sing “This is the Shack” by The Dove Shack up there in it’s honor.

We grew up in poverty. When I was about 7, my dad’s business began to turn a profit and he finished building the new house enough that we could safely move in, after a brief year in Pennsylvania due to my mom not being able to put us kids through another harsh winter in The Shack.

We fished a lot. I spent my free time in the woods, exploring. Rednecks were everywhere. They chased my oldest brother and his best friend, who was black (RIP to him as well) until they had to hide behind hay bales for a whole day.

Pkay, I’ll stop for a minute… my point is that it is more country and also more ghetto than most places you all know of. Elmira city currently averages a shooting a day. Not exaggerating. It is wretched.

So, living in small towns in North Carolina and Colorado, trying to explain the uniqueness of upstate NY to my coworkers and friends is SUPER IRRITATING. They always roll their eyes and call me a liar (behind my back, primarily) when I tell people I’m “from the country” and am from the state of NY. Then they overhear me talk about some wild downtown stabbings or something and they think that they have found cracks in my earlier claims of being a rural person.

This is mainly due to the fact that the folks in these small towns are so sheltered and uncultured. I understand completely that you never knew that there was a whole, humongous varied part of NY that is not The Five Buroughs full of mobster Italians, Wu-Tang affiliates and movie stars. Just as I wasnt aware that western North Carolina was as different from the eastern half as night and day.

BUT, to dismiss someone who is more learned, cultured, and intelligent than you are about the reality of life, is irritating.

My upstate Nyers know EXACTLY what I mean.

So it’s not the people who don’t KNOW about upstate NY, but the ones who dont believe us about the reality.

So, my main irritant is sheltered, narrowminded folks.

P.S. I have only actually been to New York CITY once. About 6 years ago. That is how upstate NY I am.

Yo shout out to New York man. I lived in Bridport Vermont for about two years and met more than few cool NY folks. Whats funny is I was born and raised in central NC. So I grew up around TONS of folks from upstate NY (also a lot from Penn. and Jersey) and would hear this constantly from them lol. I don’t know why folks always gotta turn “being from the country” into a pissing contest or act like you’re just saying it to get attention. Perhaps some folks do. And yeah yer spot on about East and West NC. Gimmie Boone over New Bern any day.

Hahah “Boone over New Bern” I love it!

Yeah, I’m neither proud nor ashamed of my rural/urban upbringing. But these two current co workers of mine in eastern Colorado (aka “Colobraska” because it’s just plains and desert-like terrain) are OBSESSED over the whole ordeal. They wont even give the idea of “rural NY” a second of consideration. They’re younger cats, and super isolated and sheltered, so I guess I can understand… but nah, fuck them.

I remember this crack-addicted gentleman in NC I worked with named Roosevelt. He said “I believe its colder down here in Carolina than up in New York!”

I asked, “how do you figure?”

“Because you all got all them buildings to block the wind!” He replied, a few months before he had to quit due to an upcoming drug test.

I stood there, thinking of the -30 degree winters of my youth in the NY countryside.

…..

Bonus Story:

I rode truck with a NC fella… my wife brought some Cortland apples from NY back from a trip home. Cortland apples are insanely delicious, the perfect ratio of tart and sweet, crisp and juicy….. I was biting into one and Ralph, the guy, said

“Whatchoo eatin, boy? Apple smells like a piece o’ candy”

“Oh,” I announced with a trace of pride, “Cortland apples from New York! Want one?”

Ralph: “phfft! Ain’t no apples grown in New York, boy!”

Incredulous, I uttered “there are orchards everywhere! I spent all summer in apple trees. Haven’t you ever heard of ‘The Big Apple'”?

Ralph: “Pssh… that’s just an expression.”

I asked my team leader, Lou, who hailed from the mountains of Pennsylvania, if he could confirm.

Lou: “He’s right, Ralph. I think they grow in every state”

Ralph: “oh, really?? Wow, I never…”

Bonus Bonus Factoid:

We never would have thought this, but Washington state has a fucking legit DESERT. Yes. We drove through it.

People need to get out more lol.

Driving from west to east you just slowly watch more and more green turn to brown
