Violent J will be a Guest Speaker at a Marketing Event in Detroit! [Only 100 Tickets Available!]

A ninja named Dan Edelstein hit me up about a truly unique event that’s happening in a couple of weeks.  On Thursday, August 10th, the Direct Marketing Association of Detroit (aka DMAD) will be holding a marketing event with a very special guest speaker…the one and only Joe Bruce aka Violent J!

The luncheon and presentation will take place at the Majestic Theatre Complex (Lobby Bar) from 12 Noon – 1 PM EST.  It’s called “30 years of Marketing the Insane Clown Posse, and this super exclusive event is limited to only 100 tickets!  Each ticket is $40.00, so I’d call that a bit of a bargain!

Learn How ICP Created Their Extremely Successful Detroit Based Brand

Joe Bruce, better known to many as Violent J, one half of the tremendously successful Detroit rap duo Insane Clown Posse, will appear August 10th from noon to 1:00 PM at the Majestic Theater, speaking at a marketing industry event.

“It’s a little bit different than what some people might expect from Joe,” says Dan Edelstein, event producer and board member of the Direct Marketing Association of Detroit (DMAD), which hosts the event. “Naturally, anyone can attend, but we’re hoping to see a wider variety of people than the usual ICP fans. Joe has been doing this extremely well for 30 years, and definitely has something to teach anyone interested in marketing or promotion.”

ICP’s success backs up Edelstein’s words. Formed in Detroit in 1989, the hip hop horrorcore duo has earned 2 platinum and 5 gold albums with the independent label they launched, Psychopathic Records, spawned their own feature films, became WWE wrestlers, and they even started their own “Juggalo Championship” wrestling league. More than that, they’ve been a cultural phenomenon since the 90s, inspiring a loyal fan base called “Juggalos” that is such a defined lifestyle the FBI classified them as a gang in 2011.

What does Bruce have to teach professionals about marketing? DMAD believes that you can’t argue with their success, especially when you consider what they’ve accomplished without any major backing. “ICP is truly a Made in Detroit phenomenon that has achieved national success,” says Edelstein. “They’ve done what marketers seek to do – make a product and build an extremely successful brand that extends them into multiple industries. And it all started in a basement. Whether you love them or hate them – and I think many people in the industry respect ICP even if they don’t like their music – you absolutely have something to learn from how they did this.”

For his part, Bruce is excited to speak to a crowd that might include as many ad agency creative directors, production company professionals, and corporate marketing executives as musicians, promoters and fans.

“What I’d like to do more than anything is speak and tell our story. I know at the South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin every year they have a seminar about Insane Clown Posse and our marketing, without us. I heard about that and said where’s my invite? Can I get a turn at the podium? I’m excited the DMAD is giving me that opportunity.”

Registration for the event, DMAD Presents: 30 Years of Marketing the Insane Clown Posse with Violent J, can be found here. Lunch is included in the cost, and Bruce will take questions from the crowd. https://dmadetroit.org/content.aspx?page_id=4002&club_id=318197&item_id=2013550

I hope to hear a lot of you Detroit Juggalos hitting this up and getting schooled by the Duke!

This is pretty dope. I want to attend this just to see how professional J is going to speak. I got a feeling, there is going to be at least a few, unintended, comical moments. If we’re lucky, maybe it’ll end up on YouTube some how.

I completely agree. I would loooove to see this! As someone who runs a business and has an interest in that side of things, it’d be very neat to see how he carries himself. I’m sure he’ll be funny as hell.
    Maybe someone will film it

I want him to be himself of course, and I’m confident he’ll be painted up. But I can understand, how a clown from the hood, trying to teach ppl about marketing and branding, could make some ppl uneasy. But you know what, fuck em! J built an empire, and has massive success for a guy with no formal education, and came from nothing. Gotta respect it. Shit, he got all of us to love the hatchet. He might not have degrees, but J ain’t a dummy either.
