This summer, every festival is cancelled. Most of the cancellation announcements have been brief and businesslike, but one was emotional. In April, the members of the long-running Detroit duo Insane Clown Posse were forced to tell their fans that the Gathering Of The Juggalos, their annual family reunion, couldn’t happen this year. Their announcement is heartbroken, determined, and compassionate: “The bottom line is simply that we REFUSE to risk even ONE Juggalo life by hosting a Gathering during these troubling times.”
That’s the way things tend to go for the Insane Clown Posse. Since they first put on the clown makeup nearly three decades ago, Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope have built up a fascinating cult around themselves, and they’ve been fierce, ardent defenders of that cult. ICP have been treated as a pop-culture punchline for years — when they and their fans haven’t been treated as something to be feared — but they’re also a DIY success story and a rallying point for a whole lot of people who really need one. In the name of the Juggalos, ICP sued the FBI and marched on Washington. They live for their fans, and their fans live for them.
Today, ICP are underground rap elders. Nobody else in the entire history of popular music has ever had a career anything like that of the Wicked Clowns. On a Zoom call from the Psychopathic Records offices in Michigan, Violent J, the more talkative half of ICP, spoke with us for a long time, telling us about some fascinating moments from ICP’s back pages. And yes, he was wearing the facepaint. Violent J, I learned, is an excellent storyteller.

Twiztid were recorded backstage talking to fans, they didnt know they were being recorded but they were caught in the recording, you can hear Madrox talking like the biggest diva, just spewing hate on ICP, and why? Because they released a song with homophobic lyrics, now the mind blowing part is that the song Jamie was complaining about Monoxide actually makes an appearance in it, but monoxide was being real quiet not mentioning that part to Jamie, not to mention both Jamie and Paul have used homophobic lyrics in their music so who the fuck are they to criticize ICP for it? I just find it hard to believe that they would be telling this to juggalos at a show. You should be willing to say that most of the time, j has a shitty attitude when stuff doesn’t go his way. If the clowns are wrong then they are wrong. If twiztid is wrong then they are wrong. I also don’t understand why there has to be beef. But Twiztid even said they didn’t like ICP’s line, “We’re not sorry if we tricked you”, saying something like “why would you trick your fans, and then say I’m not sorry about it, that’s fucked up and shows you don’t care” or some shit like that. And to get Paul and Jamie to admit they’re wrong especially with George and Dustin saying they’re right won’t happen. Just like Billy telling J he’s right. I really think Rob, Joe and Joey need to sit with George, Paul and Jamie, and get this shit done. But I did watch a smoke session with Paul and he was asked if there was still beef with ICP, and he sounded genuine with his response which was, “No. I don’t and we at MNE don’t have any beef with anyone in our city or anywhere else”. Well after Esham left Psychopathic saying how everyone was racist and some other shit there were issues, but it got worked out, and after I Aintcha Homie came out they did kinda say fuck Esham, cuz they (or just J) took it kinda personal, but left it at that. And with Tech N9ne yeah, it was a misunderstanding, Tech made a video with Twiztid saying something like “look here, there’s no hate with us”, Tech dropped that verse about J (supposedly), but then Tech talked with J, and had ICP announce them at the Strange tour when it hit Detroit, so it became water under the bridge, same deal with Esham, it’s water under the bridge. But the shit with E happened in 2005 and 2009, and the Tech incident happened in 2017, but they’ve talked and moved on, but hating nah I don’t think it was “hating”, cuz they never droned on about it, didn’t keep making songs with subliminal lyrics trying to keep a fire burning, unlike some other people that say they’ve moved on, are being the bigger person, and have no issues. But that’s just me.

Tech performed for 2 years at the GOTJ after this was released, so Chuck Reeves waited that long until there was a little conflict between the 2 to pull this out from 2014 to say it was a Tech diss song all because of the line “I ain’t a chopper” and all that shit. Because is what I ment was why did this become a “relevant diss” in 2018 (when the issue was in 2017) and not 2014? To reiterate what the people who have a clue in this thread have said, ICP are always whining about other bands. Let me provide you some examples:
– The Eminem feud: ICP recorded no less than 3 songs directly dissing Eminem. Slim Anus, Nuttin But a Bitch Thang, Don’t Hate Me. J’s verse on Blaze’s song Shittalkaz was also an Eminem diss. This continued on long after Eminem even paid them any attention because he had far better things to do.
– Esham Disses: In the song Cartoon Nightmares, Shaggy says “Local rappers in my city, the D, they want to talk smack. But they be so whack they ain’t worth dissin’ back” and then a voice yells twerk yo body. Twerk Yo Body was an Esham song off of his album Mail Dominance, so that is a direct diss to him. Those 2 were always going back and forth.
– Tech N9ne: Although not a feud, J was whining about Tech N9ne not going to the march. J literally stated that Tech started wearing facepaint because of ICP (totally not true) and that Tech N9ne owes a ton of his success to juggalos (also silly).
– Kid Rock: When Kid Rock first got popular, ICP would give him props. Then after Kid Rock dissed them, they have dissed him several times since. Violent J used to write Weekly Freakly columns on the ICP website dissing kid rock. Here is an example:

– Korn: Apparently Korn made fun of a ICP billboard and ICP heard about it. ICP dissed Korn several times over the years, including on Rise from Amazing Jeckel Brothers “faggot, faggot, they call you that cuz you act like a bitch” which is a reference to Korn’s song Faget.
– Ice Cube: This one is so pathetic and Ice Cube was violent J’s hero, but Ice Cube dissed ICP along with Korn. On the Psychopathic Rydas song I don’t Want to Die, Violent J says “I want to live and see the lights of the goodyear blimp
Its gonna read ‘Ice Cubes a Bitch'”
There are many other instances of ICP dissing other artists, but I’m tired of typing all this. It is very clear that ICP, especially Violent J, are exceptionally insecure and have consistently have hated on somebody or any perceived slight, real or not.
