Insane Clown Posse Wins Detroit Free Press’ “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame” Induction Poll!

Back in February. The Detroit Free Press held an online voting poll of Detroit and other Michigan music acts that deserve to be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, that are beyond eligible to be inducted, but aren’t. And the voting results are finally in! As Insane Clown Posse placed first with over 95,000 votes/over 31 percent of the votes! With Kid Rock placing second, Grand Funk Railroad placing third, Ted Nugent placing fourth, and Diana Ross placing fifth. While  Twiztid and Negative Approach racked up their own fair share of votes submitted as write-in votes.  Check out the full detailed Detroit Free Press article written by Brian McCollum here:  https://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/music/brian-mccollum/2023/05/05/insane-clown-posse-in-the-rock-roll-hall-of-fame-you-asked-for-it/70184140007/?fbclid=IwAR3Dea-rtFobOqu8xnYpplpv3jSnOi-N4OVHpohILbNTYUE1YB55xrx2xFY

I’m still shocked by this tbh. If they get it, they get it, if they don’t, they don’t. Idc honestly, but props to them if it happens.

Not to just take a petty shot at twz, but they’ll never get in. They need to go back to making gd music 1st at least, and probably more important (for RRHOF standards) get some more gold and platinum under their belt. Again, I don’t see that ever happening tho either.

Either way Icp had more votes than Kid Cock, that’s win in my book.

No love for Esham? I know people aren’t too keen on his music the last 20 years but what he was doing at a young age with just the lyrical and production aspect of creating a genre like Acid Rap and expanding on the Horror core scene and being mostly underground and independent paved the way for a few names on the list. Truly one of the most hated on artist from Detroit by Detroiter’s if not the whole state of Michigan. Anyway, Esham’s Dope Hoe!

I agree w you 100. For transparency, I don’t like Eminem. Never really got into him. The reason I mention that is bc, he might have his talents, but there really ain’t shit original about him. He was a guy that gained some clout for his rap battles etc. He got lucky that a major player in the game saw him and put him on.
Just think, what if Esham got the spot/push Eminem got? Who the fuck knows where alot of DET rappers would be just from that switch alone.
Me and some of my homies talked about shit like this, and 1 of the general consensus is, if Eminem never blew up how/when he did, he’d probably be in Tech N9nes position as the #1 independent in the country. Point being, he wouldve eventually got to some sort of high status. Even tho I don’t like him, I’ve learned you can’t argue that he sucks bc everybody swears he’s the best ever. I don’t agree. I don’t like him or his music, but he knows how to rap, he’s just very corny imo, and he strings a lot of rhymes together that don’t really mean anything. Big whoop.

But yes I agree, if somebody like Eminem is in there bc of album sales basically, Esham should be in there for all his originality and innovations that he contributed.

ICP will ultimately be looked back on like a great wrestling character that people really enjoyed at the time but was never the main guy. Always a solid heel in the business that made it fun for everyone by just being around to hate.
Eeeeeveryone listened to ICPs eminem diss tracks, everyone knows “Fuck The World” from Woodstock 99, everyone heard and saw “Miracles” and when ICP played along and showed they weren’t taking themselves as seriously as people who hated them wanted them to, they slowly started to win people over.
Even if now juggalos are not into their new stuff, they’re in their late 40’s/early 50’s and honestly deserve a break.
And I think they deserve to be in the rock and roll HOF even though it’s more of an award record labels give themselves for producing an act that made them a ton of cash.
I hope they get in at some point; whether we care or not, it’s a huge stamp of having done something right as improbable as it may seem.
Agree? Disagree? Tell me to fuck off??

You make a lot of great points. Also I agree w, and love the wrestling heel analogy bc that’s a more than fair assessment imo.
Growing up tho, Icp was always that group ppl loved to hate. It probably helped them way more than it hurt them and thats not a bad thing. Yeah Icp do get a lot more mainstream love than they used to get, but I still see them being the but of jokes and what not, at least a few times a yr, weather it’s a tv show, movie or YouTube video. It just shows they stick out to ppl weather those ppl like them or not.
Icp are not the best rappers, but their creativity and out of the box thinking is what took them to where they are.

I agree with everything you said apart from the fact that they “deserve a break” for the quality of their output in the last 10+ years. Age or time in the game is no excuse for putting out comparative dogshit (please note I said comparative).

If you had a job and you go worse at it over time, there would be a problem and you’d be fired. If you compare the quality of a single song from AJB to their best song on YYB, it isn’t even close. No hate, I just don’t agree that artists should be given a pass for getting lazy just because they earn more money and spend a long time making music. Look at veterans like Masta Ace or any member of the Wu Tang Clan. Multiple decades in the game and arguably (in some cases) getting better.

They get away with it because they’re ICP and their fans are die hard and beleive they are “family” members of icp. If it were any other artist who dropped in quality so much, they wouldnt get away with it like they do.

Still love ICP, still bump their new shit. Just being real.

Admittedly, I worded it poorly – by “deserve a break” I meant they deserve some slack in the critisim they may receive in their current stuff.
Honestly, some of the most popular rappers ever have 2-3 albums total in their career and ICP have something wild like 23? lol
After that long, that many songs, that many stories and themes, branching out into something different (aka “bad” to most people lmao) is forgivable due to the hustle.
My biggest bummer is the projects they leak and never follow up on. Looney Goonz was something I was really excited for with ICP, Hoodoo, and Lyte and then it just never happened. DJ Clay could drop another Let Em Bleed and I’d be happy.
Dark Lotus with Ouija, ICP, Lyte, and ABK…
Its all stuff they COULD do but aren’t and I can’t really be mad because they gave such a huge catalogue that I still love.

    And Mr Fucker –
I get what you mean about the lame jokes in pop culture but at the same time, the mainstream love comes from them having legit good songs and being cool dudes. There’s some ICP songs you could show a regular rap fan who wouldn’t listen to ICP based on the stigma and they’d have to admit some of it is dope. They just do some lame shit that IS hard to defend… (*cough* rapping in POV of 9th grade when you’re 50…)

I too was hella interested in Looney Goonz. I was also hoping for more KillJoy Club too.

As for Lotus…No to Ouija. No to ABK. And biggest NO to Lyte. I’ll take ABK in Lotus before Lyte, and while Ouija wouldn’t have trouble bringing the desired wicked shit needed for Lotus, I feel like he’d make Lotus corny. To me, Lotus should just be Icp, Twz and Blaze.

I would however like to see Icp and Ouija either make their own group, or do an entire collabo album. I think that could be fresh af.

Even tho it’s getting harder for me to get into Icps new shit, even if they drop shitty project after shitty project, I’m always going to have excitement, enthusiasm, intrigue, and interest in their next project bc they always keep it interesting at the very least.

    I loved ABK in Lotus.
And I agree, the dream lineup is the original one but that’s done. Im one of the people who just moved away from everything Twiztid does now because of the bullshit moves they pulled. Also, just stealing every artist and keeping them in their psychopathic gimmicks is so lame haha.
But yeah, any super group they’ve ever done has been really cool. I didn’t really like Killjoy Club as much, I think they tried to rap in 666 Madias style too much on it and it felt kinda off.
Even an album with ICP, Ouija, and ABK would be cool but it looks like ABK is more with MNE now.
I watched his Facebook live from 3 years ago now and he said he had 3 albums worth of material he would hand in and we haven’t seen or heard anything from him… Too bad.
